This. If its an infiltrator it shouldn't matter. Piercing is handy for double and triple hits and collateral kills which are especially helpful versus atlases that stack up or praetorians and scions that also jam on each other. It's not like it matters on snipers. If you're doing it right you'll get a 3 second cooldown regardless.

I'm surprised at how many Sniper Rifle Infiltrators I see in pugs that don't carry a second weapon. Though I suppose it shouldn't.
Earlier today I had a U/U/G that turned out to be Hazard Glacier/Collectors/Gold. Between Snap Freeze, Flamer, the Big Ball o' Doom, Seeker Plagues, and wherever the hell all that screenshake was coming from, sniping was just not going to happen. Fortunately, I had a backup plan! I switched to Scorpion Pistol, and followed the Paladin around, laying Scorping and Proxy Mines at everything he Snap Freezed.
If I didn't have that second weapon, I'd have been about useless in that game. Which is what most pugs would be in that situation. Don't they ever get tired of being useless?

I am guilty of the above! To be honest, I have stopped equipping a secondary because it causes my Hamletic side to start wondering at what distance from an enemy I should switch weapon... until a Brute is sitting on top of me
. Now that I am in the habit of carrying only a SR, I find myself relocating to better spots when pressed, which also helps against the inevitable tunnel vision. Of course, this setup backfires badly when landing in Glacier (though I will simply leave if landing in a gip), and Cerberus becomes a chore in the later waves. Hmmm, I might try equipping a secondary again, see if I can start solving the "to move or not to move" dilemma.

I've been seeing a significant number of infiltrators using single weapons with lightweight material mods equipped. C'mon pugs, get it together.
Just tonight I ran into a Salarian Infiltrator with only a Black Widow. He had a plain Damage Barrel, Light Materials, and AP ammo. Just sooo wrong.
And then they get mad when they get outscored by a Valiant.

So just to be clear.. the 2 ways for the weight to be applied CORRECTLY on non-DLC weapons is when you either:
1)visit the weapons selection screen w/o going back to character selection
2)someone leaves a game in progress where the weight was not already correctly applied
Is that correct?
I think 1) is just a visual thing. Even if you do that, the glitch will still be applied to in game cooldowns.
2), I cannot confirm 100%, but my experience definitely seems to confirm it, so much so that I've started to unequip the heavy mods when I start the game with less than a full team, at least on the characters where cool down somewhat matters.

The CAR is not a DLC weapon.
EDIT - And you forgot the CSR & Indra.
The Indra,PPR and Argus technically aren't DLC weapons in multiplayer (they were added independent of DLC)

IDK I think eventually a sniper should get good enough to deal with CQC. I've seen a lot of good snipers (better than me on an open map) struggle on a map like that particularly with blitz type enemies. I can generally out snipe most people on that kind of CQ map because I've practiced at it. I can see your point and IDK that it's a bad idea but I would have never gotten better at that part of the game if I had a secondary to rely on. JMO though.

The Scorpion fits with the whole Salarian Theme, which is my main reason for taking it. To accomodate this weightwise, I take the Valiant instead of the Black Widow. Unlike the Black Widow, the Valiant does not reward bodyshots with one-hit kills. So don't worry, my skillz are sufficiently mad, son. By taking a higher skill Sniper Rifle, I afford myself the luxury of the Scorpion to deal with adverse circumstances.
It's just a matter of preference, and the Scorpion is too fun and silly of a weapon to not utilize on a Salarian kit.
TL;DR
Black Widow is a crutch.

Sinful almost never carries a secondary weapon and never on Infiltrators or when sniping. And this makes most sense for pugs who's weapons are even heavier.
Only time Sinful might carries a secondary weapon is Scorpion on Geth Trooper since he don't have any stagger powers. Or any other secondary weapon on Destroyer. ie. Typhoon & Piranha.
No, I can't confirm it from personal testing. From what I understand, it would only apply during a host migration.
And when another players joins a started session. So wait for the lobby to fill up if you want the glitch to succeed.

Sinful request someone test Indra. He doesn't have it on PS3. If it is weight glitchable, Sinful will request a Terminator face palm through the head, as he always assumed a it wasn't and always enjoyed that weapon for it's light weight too.
So the first of these posts was quite possibly the most pointless post 'Sinful' has ever made? From a looooooong list of pointless Sinful posts, I might add. ![]()
For the benefit of lurkers, if you want to be certain that the weight glitch won't work on the non-dlc weapons, just stick an Ultralight Mod on the Acolyte and take it with you as a sidearm, even if you have no intention of using it - it won't add to your cooldown in any meaningful way. Any ULM mod will make the additional weight of the HVB, Omniblades or Scopes apply in all circumstances.
As with my earlier post, I would be happy to be corrected if this is wrong, but it's always been my understanding of how things work.

As far as I know, this is also correct. Basically, more than one weight mod seems to make all weight mods apply correctly.

I never leave home without it on innate penetrating rifles.
The others are a different matter, since it will depend on what ammo I plan to run. Standard barrel with AP or Drill, HVB + SR Piercing with the others.

I can snipe with the screen shake though. Quickscoping in this game is rather easy to pull off. There is the rare occasion where I target a random Swarmer or something instead of my target, but I would rather just use the gun I planned on using than carrying a sidearm. I know cooldowns don't matter if you have TC, but it does matter sometimes. If I leave my cloak on to do a device or if I want to use a power without cloaking because I'm in a pinch, it's nice to not have to wait 8 seconds. And sometimes sniping at shotgun range is pretty fun.
why do people still care about cooldowns in this game.
seriously.
Yeah you're right, I should just throw a Spitfire and a Claymore on my Fury because who needs cooldowns when you have guns?

Sinful did a test with the Indra yesterday via character select screen trick. It does weight glitch. Excellent. Now Sinful can add more penetration to this SR too.
EDIT - Sinful would like to thank Grunt for this advice/correction. Scanning for a suitable topic to apply "like."

1 - Double Piercing Mods
2 - Phasic Ammo, or Disruptor Ammo if you have Energy Drain or Overload or Arc Grenades etc
3 - Pwn
