Isn't the preview the beta?
More like several betas. I'm on my fourth build since I joined the program, and there's another one downloading.

Remember the day when companies PAID people to bugtest their product? Those were the days. I got it too. Opted out.
No one ever paid me anything except my daddy...

Alright, so I had to dual boot because of my work. Ubuntu is a good OS but it just doesn't offer the popular applications that workmates and current user base is using. I installed 8 and got an invite to 10 really quickly actually. Here is what I have to say.
I am impressed.
->I am happy they kept the metro style user interface while not straying too much from the used look.
->The ecosystem that this operating system creates by allowing these applications to function on every device(Deploy once run everywhere) is probably the most underrated but important feature of this OS.
->Ability to run propriety runtimes with inclusion of objective C and ability to make android applications because they can run natively.
->The apps that regulate to this ecosystem.
and of course many other features.
I think Microsoft have done it. This is quality.

What?
You have Win 10 already? Proper version? Not a beta?

Bite your tongue! Watch your mouth!
Don't talk to a pro like that!

I was using a developer version for one of my systems.
^ Of course it's a trap all these free copies of Win 10 are really Skynet..
When they all start to come online it awakens.
Two links that might interest people..
You can download Windows 10 direct from Microsoft. Not sure if this can be done to avoid waiting for the proper automatic download... But it's there

Some people have had installation errors. There is a fix

Does anyone know if I can simply "upgrade" my Windows 8.1, while keeping all the files, games, programs, clients, setting etc. without dumping them into the windows.old folder?

Yes, only the content of the Windows-folder is moved to the windows.old folder. Everything else stays where it is.
I'm waiting for the big October update. There's something don't like but so far 10 is following MS OS traditions and it's looking good.
Literal first impressions are it's ok.

I find it pretty good aswell.
Certainly not as much a shock as Windows 8 and 8.1 were after my little upgrade marathon yesterday night just so I'd get Windows 10 Pro instead of Home (it worked, weeeee!). Windows 8 was TERRIBAD and 8.1 hardly better. And I'm glad I only had to install those version for one night.
So, just UI-wise, I can definately say that Win10 took the best from Win7. Not sure how to feel about all that app nonsense and I promptly kicked most of those off my system (a travel app, really?). But the weather app is convenient, if only because it saves me about ten seconds looking that up via internet, so not everything's bad.
And Microsoft Edge, ... well, I used it to download Firefox and that's it really. If your browser ain't supporting plug-ins, you're gonna have a bad time, mkay! If Edge gets plug-in support and makes a solid impression in performance and security, then I may consider dumping Firefox ... at least until Mozilla breaks out its own 64bit browser, in which I'll be likely to come back to that one.

I'll probably be using Windows 7 until Microsoft sends goons to make me upgrade at gunpoint tbh.
7 is nice and comfortable for me...
I am starting to feel the same way... I can't even get the upgrade started have tried several methods and all of them don't work for me.
Win 7 64 bit OEM and it still says upgrade is reserved and everything is up to date...
GIMME MAI WINDOWS 10 ALREADY, MICROSOFT!!!!
Unfortunately I can't seem to force the upgrade like other people have...
I have tried the cmd promp method to force windows update and the upgrade tool from MS keeps doing a silent crash..
