I skipped Windows 8.

 

You everyone should have done if at all humanly possible.

 

I installed an old unused Win8 Pro upgrade license on my Win7 HP the night before the rollout so I could upgrade to Win 10 Pro instead of its Home version and it was absolutely horrible to try and work with that. Took my half an eternity to find the Windows update utility so I could get all the system updates and then finally upgrade to 8.1, from which I then could upgrade to Win 10.

 

I had Win8 for maybe two hours and that's two hours too much!

 

 

Where did that come from?

Interesting, for me it boots faster than with Win7 (and I always made a point of regularily cleaning it up so it stays fast, so it's not like my Win7 was just all clogged up and slow).

 

Did you do a clean install?

I just reinstalled all the usual stuff I had with Windows 7..  Which wasn't that much at all so not sure why it is taking longer to boot then Win 7.

Overall working great. Yeah, I had to use the workaround, which was less of a workaround and more just a normal download and install link - not a big deal.

 

MY bootup is faster, at least. I may change the login process though, since there's no interest in using my Microsoft Account for it.

 

At least some of my games seem to be running faster and smoother. The FPS difference is not very little.

 

Changed my location back to Canada ASAP so I don't have Cortana yet, but that's not a problem on this PC that doesn't even have a microphone unless my headset is plugged in. Still figuring out the various functions.

 

I think its totally ridiculous that there isn't a usable, relatively simple version of Office included in Windows at this point. Come on, its 2015 - its even an expectation to have the damn ability (yes I know there's free alternatives) to typing some stuff down and formatting it, making spreadsheets, etc. Its not new fantastic stuff no matter how you spice it up. Just include it like I think Apple does?

 

Gonna have to figure out this start menu. It'll be the first time I actually give a damn about it, since this time I want to make my desktop as empty as possible (not the 1-4/1-3 filled with icons like it usually has been).

Did you go here and then just select update? That's how I upgraded when I didn't get an invite. https://www.microsof...load/windows10

 

The tool makes it so much less of a headache. I just activated using my windows 7 OEM cd key and that was that.

EDIT: Changing region didn't do it. Still says it's not available in my region.
