I was just reading on the NVidia forums about laptop monitors getting messed up by combination Windows 10 and the latest NVidia drivers - yikes!

https://forums.gefor...splay-panels/1/

Guess I should be glad my laptop's NVidia card won't play ANY games (even with today's 355.60 driver release), and the screen only works with the Intel HD card part of the combination.

That's why I'm keeping Windows 10 on my USB thumb drives until they iron out the problems for you beta testers.

The whole "free upgrade" is a giant beta test haha at least I think so.

I read bad things about Win 10. I'm gonna uninstall my 8.1 and return to 7 next week. I'm sick and tired of this crap. It has structural problems and is incompatible with many old games.

Updated to Windows 10 from 7 earlier this month and then did a clean install. No problems to report so far.

I'm not understanding why people are having problems in Windows 10...

I have had great fun with Cortana the design reminds me of the movie "her"

Starting to get some more popups on my Windows 7 box to upgrade to the "recommended" OS. Heh, maybe in few months.

On the plus side I was able to downgrade the graphics driver on my laptop that I did upgrade to Windows 10, and it can play 3d games again.

Can you say which Nvidia driver version was the bad one and which was the good one?

None of the drivers for Windows 10 worked for my GT 420M card. I used 347.88 from Windows 8.1.

Interesting. My current is 347.88 too on Win8.1, but it got problems with java programs and videos but not video games, it's annoying.

The previous version I used before it was flawless.

Mobile GPU drivers are always a fickle thing. I'm afraid there's nothing you can do but wait for a version that works satisfyingly.

i did but im not installing that ****.

They are pretty much beta testing their likely buggy software on the masses, hoping you will help them find the issues they need to fix the most before going commercial with it.

Eh, the primary reason for Microsoft to give out Win10 for free is trying to get people to move on from older Windows OS versions (mostly XP and Win7). Besides, this is already the commercial release. And no, they aren't using people as beta testers. They have the insider program for that. Sure, early adopters do occasionally have to live with a couple quirks before they're ironed out, but that's it. My system boots faster, runs faster, runs equally as smooth and takes up less PC ressources than when I ran with Win7.

If you don't want to make the transition, wait a couple months until say the (first) service pack goes live. It is free to adopt within a whole year after all (for people that are eligible for the free upgrade), so no one's forcing anyone to get it right this instant.

But raving around how it's ****, buggy and unethical business practices that are misusing adopters as ginuea pigs is unjustly hysterical and plain wrong.

You can always go Linux if you don't want an MS OS at all.

Well said..

Just on that last point I am searching for a linux for my laptop as Windows 10 is painfully slow on that machine.   Is there a version of Linux that is very user friendly?

Are you seriously sure?

My Core i3 laptop with 4GB ram works great on Windows 7. Well it's not strong enough for high tech games and programs.

I am sure.  My laptop is a Celeron from 2010 dual core 1.8 ghz 4 gig ram Windows 7 actually ran faster then Windows 10 on it.  But I figure I never use the machine for much, at least not what I had originally intended so I might go linux on it.   Can't be any worse I'd imagine.

I'm using Windows 8.1 right now and im happy with it, some of the things i've heard in this thread make me a little apprehensive of the free upgrade.

I was one of only two people in the world who were fine with Windows 8 apparently, but Windows 10 is nicer even if the changes that immediately matter to me are all cosmetic (again).

Windows 7 is perfect, why would I want a newer one?
