I had no trouble driving the mako with KB+M and welcome it's return. Besides, ME:N will have controller support out of the box for the PC version like DAI so what's the problem?

The sad part is we had to use vehicles out of their element. In Mass Effect 1 we did more exploring -- which would have been perfect for the Hammerhead. I could have easily flew over a mountain or valley and scanned the resources. In Mass Effect 2 I had to combat Geth armored units with little dummy rockets, no barriers, or armor.

You don't need armor when you don't get shot!

I have to say, I never had any problems driving the Mako. Whenever there was a problem, it was because of the environment and not the vehicle.

What they showed us of the Mako seemed pretty solid, even a year ago (to me, anyway).

I'm pretty excited for it.

Like every single person who ever loved the Mako, I am a fan of ME1.  It isn't elegant.  It sure looks cool, though.  It can handle some stupid impossible terrain - the stuff that makes you grit your teeth.

It can get you anywhere you need to be.  It got me to the Prothean Sphere.  It got me to Ilos.  Ilos, people - do you remember how that felt?  That is the Magic that I want back.

It got us to the Conduit.

If it can get you to the Citadel from Ilos and die in the process, but keep you safe - THAT my friends - that machine was your friend.  It had heart.

And don't even pretend that you had no issues at all on the Prothean Skyway.  I wondered what was on that lower bridge, and went for it.  You know the sound I am talking about.  Critical Mission Failure.

Oh, man.  The Mako run on Ilos was EPIC!.  I don't understand how anyone who played ME1 is not nostalgic for the Mako just for the Conduit run alone.

That's the thing, what made the Ilos run so great? It wasn't the Mako, one can say it was amazing despite the Mako. It was the scenery (one of the best in the trilogy), the sense of wonder, that feeling of hurry, the story we discovered and saw and so on. But the Mako was just a vehicle that allowed us to go foward, it didn't have any contribution besides that. Combat was just the boring same and there was no kind of driving skills involved, as it couldn't have been, since the Mako didn't provide room for any kind of interesting driving.

Ilos was OK. I just didn't have all of these warm, fuzzy feelings about it. I bought it at the tail end of 2009, when I first got an Xbox. I bought Mass Effect because I was already a Bioware fan, but it wasn't like some revelatory experience or something. Other games of this type were already out and much better (GoW, Uncharted). I think it had already dated a bit by the time I played it. I didn't really warm up to the series completely until a month later and ME2 came out.

I thought the trench run in total was pretty meh, but I loved everything else about Ilos, including the final run to the conduit. My only issue with it is the sudden stop to look at the thing so we could go to a cut scene, which I thought was a bit of a misfire in that whole sequence.

Cover? In the Mako you just stay at range, turn 90 degrees to the enemy, and move back and forth MARIO STOMP AND PLOW THROUGH WITH ALL GUNS BLAZING.

Fixed :D

On a big sidenote, I remember having one main thing in my mind when first playing ME1. The Protheans. That was the biggest subject of fascination for me. Ilos helped some of that. ME2 went into more. Then we finally get Javik.

I envy anyone though playing the whole series for the first time, with the whole trilogy back to back. This evolution of the Prothean story seems like it'd pack more punch if I didn't wait as long between games.

I prefer to drive something that doesn't feel like it was made out of paper mache; that includes the controls and flying aspects. At least with the Mako you had decent control of when you flew and how you landed, to me the Hammer Head felt as if I was taking a blind jump and hoping for the best. Besides its fun to drive up a vertical face of a mountain, however if they altered those points on the Hammer head, then yeah I would be all for it, just get rid of that damn VI on board.

The VI is Varric. That's a win for me. :D

BTW: To those who say that lore-wise, it would make most sense to have the hammerhead, I say, it would make more sense not to have a ground vehicle at all but a shuttle again like in ME2/3 but this is one instance where I am happy with gameplay > lore.

The Hammerhead was almost as good. The Mako could be airdropped. But I don't recall seeing it air-picked up. Improve the thrusters on it and it might as well be a shuttle.

Apart from Hammerhead vs Mako, something I would really like to see is an attack shuttle armed to the teeth. Like those Huey helicopters used during the Vietnam war.

I would love to see something Freelancer-like in ME (the freelancer mouse controls would go very well with ME's shooting gameplay, I think). I am just not sure if it isn't too ambitious since I wouldn't want that feature to overshadow the core run, gun & talk gameplay of Mass Effect. The ballance between all elements would have to be just right.

So yea, dog fights would be cool. So far, only Urz was allowed to do them in ME and that's not fair. :)

How about... your very own gunship you could use for planetside incursions?

The cinematics at the beginning of Priority: Earth always sort of bothered me. All those ships in close formation opening fire at the same time... how did the ones in back not hit their allies in front? Any shots that missed would have hit Earth.

Nice. But only if we can get some classic helicopter music. Like CCR or Long Tall Sally.

If we get a whole charge of gunships, then hell yes.

Does somebody need an orbit-capable gunship? I know I do.

Spoiler

Accept no substitutes.

But for ground transport, I'd go with the Mako.

Hammerhead all the way. Enjoyed it...felt like I was flying. Had to be careful in a firefight because the armor was poop. Mako? Lol! I liked it, but it was cheesy fun. Too cumbersome to control. How much of the mako love is nostalgia talking? I played the first game last....and I was like, lolwtf is this? It was easy to avoid attacks in the mako, too. I did like being able to exit it, though, and you couldn't do that with the hammerhead.

I want to fly in the next game.

The problem with the Hammerhead design is that it's a half-ass vehicle in its own universe. It's like an aircraft, but its flight capabilities are severely limited compared to an actual fighter, shuttle or gunship, and with its weak armor, makes it a poor tank. It's hard to think what the real point of such a vehicle is when there are flying vehicles in this game that can carry personnel, engage in combat, actually maintain a high altitude and possibly go into orbit unaided.

I would rather have the Apache attack helicopter

I prefer the Mako over the Hammer head.

It's platformer oriented. That's where it shines. In-universe wise, it shines in this too. Like jumping the lava pits in Overlord..this is something the Mako can't do well (not that there are any ME1 levels like that). It also quickly backs up, maneuvers quickly, and has a boost feature. And guided missiles.

Combat wise, it's not balanced at all for Insanity... but I think it's good enough otherwise.
