Found an fix for my self at least.

After removing my initial download from EA-Store and redownloading ME2
and installing the problem has gone away.

Therefore my initial download must have been bugged somehow.

I also noticed how installing this time my firewall prompted me about AdobeAir install and some other 3rd party
softwares too that did not happen before.

Hope this will help all of you.

Yes, that did it!

The retail DVDs are damaged. The electronic distribution version works like a charm.

I'm downloading to confirm now. Thank God for EA's Download Manager if this does work.

I wonder though, how can the retail DVDs being damaged cause an error that affects (to my knowledge and playthrough) only the menu buttons? This is just damn weird.

As ruttunenn wrote, the electronic distribution installed a bunch of 3rd party software. The corrupt menu buttons are probably result of such component missing or damaged.. If there is one error, there can be another. So the CTD can be caused by anything.

Can you list the software it installed? So I can try and just install those while waiting for the digital version to download?

Confirmed download from EA is a go. Menus are not blurry and are not a mess of green.

Just as an FYI, I purchased Mass Effect 2 Collector's Edition Retail and downloaded from EA about 4 hours ago. It appears correct that the DVDs might be corrupted or damaged in some way.

I will keep on letting everyone know if there are any problems like what everyone else across the boards have been having. Hopefully the solution to all of our problems is to just download the Digital Deluxe or Digital versions, your versions respectively.

Watched the opening movies, and am now in combat with Jacob the first character you actually play alongside. No stuttering except some miniscule (sp?) ones in a movie. Eyes looked black in one of the movies, could have just been me. Eyes look fine, no stuttering or lag yet. Looks like this is the polished version. I should note, all of the graphics are on Default and am on a resolution of 1280x720.

I'll play more and report back after work...after 11pm. LOL. Good luck to the rest of you guys. Thanks to all that helped and again, good luck to those who still need it.

Just to say I have got exactly the same problems (crash after surgery, redraw problem in every single menus).

I have hot the physical retail version.

OS: Vista SP1

RAM: 4Go DDR2

Video: ATI Radeion HD 4850

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4GHz

All latest drivers installed.

I am going to try to download the game from EA DL manager, and see if it works.

But it will be good if Bioware can fix that! I buy physical copy because I thought they were more reliable...

Anywaye, thank you to everyone for all teh information. I will come back with feedback once I have try the download.

Hi again,

I have uninstall the game, install EADM while reinstalling the game from teh physical disk (don't ask why). Suprisingly, this worked! I have been playing the game full performance for at least 3 hours now without any problem at all.

To make everything clear, I did not install the game from the download; I have just install the game from the disks again and install EADM. As previously mentionned, EADM install this AdobeAir thing. Maybe that was the missing link; I don't know...

Sorry I cannot be more helpful...

Oh by the way, I choose the Express option (on the first install, I had chosen where to install it). Not sure if it makes any difference but it is worth mentioning.

Anyone with the menue and crash problem got it to run with manual installation into another folder? I don't have enough space available for an express install onto c:

Yes.
After I redownloaded my ME2 I installed it in to a custom folder.
I don`t think it matters wether you install in express or custom mode.

I think that the problem was with my initial prelaunch download that was somehow bugged.
Because after redownloading ME2 it correctly installed some 3rd party softwares that it did not
with the prelaunch version.

Just in case if you install it to custom folder you might want to install it as an administrator.

Check if your firewall/antivirus software isn't blocking the instalation of the third party SW. Mine prompts me about it (like "Application xy is trying to start program ab" popup). Your firewall may be set in a more restrictive mode and automatically reject it.

Hi, guys!

I seem have found out, in what the problem consists!
Retail DVDs do not contain one file which creates so much problems:
BIOG_UIWorld.pcc (471 Kb).

It should be in a folder \\BioGame\\CookedPC\\.

File to take here:
http://narod.ru/disk...IWorld.rar.html

Good luck!

Hmmmz. I do not think that the 3rd party stuff is needed for the retail version. My FW is set to ask about one application starting another, too. During retail installation this adobe air stuff did not come up. As far as I understand from its description, it is a bit like the steam client - software needed to run software with registration stuff based on i-net connection.

But that "missing" file did work - menues are good as I write. My German retail seems damaged in this way and I do not know if I have access to an international version via EADM or if I get a localized european... I chose the English version followed by eastern european languages in the same text line for registration in EADM. Dunno, but that file seems to be missing in that download version, too.

Waiting for the intro to end...

...

...

... and working. Nice. Thanks.

For others unnerved by watching all the stuff for the n'th time: all videos run even when you have ME2 in background. I set the game to windowed mode and was writing this post during the sequences. I just had to switch back for the three dialoge choices and that small bit of running. :)

@m0rgus That sounds awesome, it's too late for me to try it out tonight so I'll leave it until tomorrow but I have my hopes up. Where did you find/figure out that there was a missing file from the retail discs?

I can also confirm this fixes the menus and allows the game to load after the surgery movie. I've played around 4 hrs so far with no problems.

I re-upped the file here

http://rapidshare.co...IOG_UIWorld.rar

again it should be in the folder \\\\BioGame\\\\CookedPC\\\\.

Thanks for the fix m0rgus!
