Good Day, erudite scholars of the gaming industry!
tl;dr - You're good enough, you're smart enough, and doggone it, people like you.
For once, I seek advice today, rather than give it.
It all started around lunchtime on Saturday. My wife made some excellent barbecue chicken. It was some of the best I had ever had, and it was surprisingly good, especially taking into account that it was her first time ever making it. I thought to myself, “Self, the only way this could get better would be to lock the kids in the closet, crack open a cold beer, and play some ME3 MP.” Unfortunately, the closets don’t have locks, so I opted to partake in the latter two activities only.
I opened the fridge and took out an ice cold Stella. Drops from the frosty condensation collected around my grip and dripped down my hands like the drool down my chin. The moment that ice, cold beer passed over my lips, touched my tongue, and filled my mouth with that brisk and rejuvenating taste of salvation was enough to help me momentarily forget I was even miserably married with miserable, snotty, little kids. Bliss.
Revitalized and filled with a generous supply of happy gas, I plopped myself down into the mold my body had made into my couch (a la Homer Simpson) and turned on my Xbox. This was it. This was ecstasy (relative to a married man’s life).
I was in such a fantastic mood, I decided to solo U/U/G. I had heard the Asari Adept was the best character to use for U/U/G and U/U/P, so why the hell not? Sure, it was my first time playing a difficulty above Silver, but nothing could stop me now.
Quickly, I realized the gigantic gap between Silver and Gold. Even with equipment, the enemies took so much longer to kill! I couldn’t even OHK with my heavy melees! This was ridiculous! Also, the worst of Geth characters spawn much earlier and in much greater abundance! Total BS! Maybe they were taking so long to kill because I was using Explosive Rounds? They work pretty awesome in Silver. I even felt like I had to spec more than 4 points into Fitness (I was already using a cyclonic 4)!
I had been top player in the Silver ladder at Tony’s Tea Time Out Bar & Grill, and I was starting to doubt my skill. All my fans, all my groupies… was I actually a failure to them without knowing it?
Anyway, I got sync’d by a Prime during wave 3. I hate Primes, and I hate prime numbers, so you can understand how vexed I was at that moment. Goddamn flashlight bastards…
Speaking of fleshlights, what is your favorite equipment to use while soloing? I bought a custom controller for the xbox with adjustable vibration settings, which is why I love to play against the Geth. Don’t sniff my control sticks.
