I guess this has been discussed before, but being the lazy ass that I am, I will make new thread  B)

So, I've read, regarding armor sets, "use the set you want, since armor is quite irrelevant".

Now, being the min/maxer that I am, I always use the highest armor. But, how "irrelevant" is it really?

Take the Avvar for example. Highest armor is 78, lowest is 57. Thats a 21 armor difference. That sounds significant, in my ears...

From the theorycrafting thread: "...each point of armor reduces physical melee damage by 2 points."

This means that the Avvar takes 42 less damage from each melee attack.

That can't be considered "irrelevant". Maybe if you add in melee defense %, the difference will be less. But still, I think armor rating matters.

I think bioware should make all armor the same rating, and have the sets for cosmetic purposes only.

Someone please convince me that armor doesn't matter, I really want to use some other armor sets :)

No, that's for SP nightmare only. Its only one here. Given enemy damage can be an upward 500 points per hit before defense, even if you had 100 armor (which you don't), you'd only be shaving 20%.

I've both done the math before, and tested in-game. It is grim.

If you've got plenty of crafting materials, by all means use them up on cosmetic armors. I certainly have. However if you're low, don't bother, and focus on unlocking new kits and upgrading gear.

These enemies laugh at the insinuation that the condensed tissue paper we wear is actually armor.
