I wonder how they'll justify Vault 111 not opening for 200 years.

Maybe we're visiting a different timeline? Something like 20 years after the bombs fell.

20 years AFB.

To be fair, if the game is split up between pre and post War sequences, then that's a fairly novel take for Bethesda. For all we know, the dog could be the protagonist lol.

Being someone who has been just kind of okay with FO3 and FONV, I was actually surprised how much this trailer worked for me. I do like that they seem to be going for more color differences in the world and the at times noir feels were pretty great. And the moment when the vault dweller talked was really awesome, as it was so unexpected yet opens up new ways for them to approach situations as to me the dialogue scenes in both previous games always felt really static.

Looking forward to more information on the game.

A voiced protagonist ruins it for me because I always roleplayed that my characters in Bethesda games were always being super ironic or sarcastic because no one could possibly say lines like those seriously. As per the lighting it seems they've gone to the opposite end of the spectrum by making everything saturated and vivid. Probably to address complaints about FO3 being too green and brown or to hide the fact the textures and models look no better than FO3.

Cross posting my observations from the thread on the Bethesda forum:

There is a Vertibird over the suburb in the pre-war cutaway (1:22)

The power armour from the garage is a pre-war design (1:28, 2:06)

Protagonist is likely a Vault dweller (1:33-1:37 is leaving Vault 111 for the first time, a similar bright light and view of the wasteland is used compared to what was used when leaving Vault 101)

Other personal speculation:

The pre-war segment is going to be some sort of prologue. (Why would Bethesda put resources into something that detailed just for a trailer?)

Timelines won't change that. All vaults where opened by the time NV starts (only 101 was never meant to open) and since the tech in this game makes the world look like further in the future, it makes even less sense. Just Bethesda screwing up with FO lore, again.

Wonder if this'll follow directly after or yeaaaars after Fallout 3

I know each game is separate, but.... project purity was a BIG thing.....but I guess that only applies to people in DC?

You know what the game feels like? It feels like a crossbreed between Bioshock Infinite and Fallout 3; as if Irrational Games made an attempt at making a Fallout game.

Not necessarely. The airship is likely something scavenged from the Old World. Not even NCR could actually build something like that when Brahmins are still how most goods are transported. That or built by the Institute. But if they have actually been developing this sort of new technology, we should have heard about it.

Therefore, they could easily set the game just 20 years AFB which was when most Vaults were supposed to open.

Barring that, they could just cope out and say "ANOTHER Vault was supposed to be locked forever, not just 101".

Is it possible that it's a resealed vault? Like it opens they go out realise how **** it is and go back in?

Now, all they need to show me is how the female protagonist look like. Unfortunately this being Bethesda and they, like Rockstar Games, love their lead dude character. I doubt we'll see any female lead character when they show it at E3 in a couple of weeks.

The good part IMO, they already have done something Fallout 3 and NV needed - a voiced protag. Silenced lead characters is beyond boring, in 3rd and 1st person games like Fallout 3 and NV. In order to compete with today's open world games, no matter what theme they have, you need a lead character that speaks. This ain't an isometric RPG.

So they had all this high tech, still working 20 years after the bombs fell? Come on JB.

And the air ship is stupid as hell.

They would all die out then. We already saw how 101 was struggling big time.

No. NV had amazing agency and RPG value, voiced protag WILL ruin that.

And Courier destroyed the lone Wander because of agency and the freedom of how you could create their backstory. Yes FO3 had a strong prologue, it also had an extremely weak cast, story and poor agency. NV had a weak prologue, it shined everywhere else.

Making another vault protag is boring, there are plenty of ways they could have set this up, but true to Bethesda who can't create an original story, they just fall back on old tired things just like in TES.

New Vegas is better because it has a better plot with morally gray factions, multiple ways of completing quests, more perk related dialogue options, more interactions with the characters, etc. But it's better in spite of having a blank PC, IMO, not because it

It did not even allow you to tailor the Courier's backstory because there are no dialogue options discussing your past and that was before Lonesome Road.

If the Courier had been a Vault Dweller, would that have somehow changed the above for worse?

Probably not but you Never know The Institute which was supposed to have been making androids or at least hunting them in three so maybe they are that advance up there

Oh yeah right. Dunno then. Maybe you just grew up in an open vault or something or Bethesda are just being dumb.  It's the second to last vault though so I still hope it's really damn fucked up. I mean vault 112 was tranquility lane so it would be pretty boring if 111 was just a normal vault.
