Bethesda: You didn't like the forced family nonsense in FO3? TOO BAD HERE;S SOME MORE IN FO4

Quality Bethesda writing.

I liked the family thing in fo 3. One of the best starting of gaming history.

It'd be interesting to play on the day of the apocalypse

Level 1

Leave your house. Enter the vault.

200 years later......

game start

That would be my guess.

The man, woman, and child are the protagonist's ancestors during the Great War

Fast forward a couple hundred years, and your story starts.

So you liked being forced into a family connection thing, removing agency from the player and it overall being fan fic quality? Because that was FO3 family stuff. It was garbage and Bethesda has not learned at all.

Quality Bethesda writing.

Who'd object to being Liam Neeson's kid?  :P

Before the Taken movies, at least

Eh, it is a pass for me.

Nothing beats FO:NV's Spurs

I love how crazy it is and how it doesn't really take itself so seriously.

But then there's that foreboding 'Fallout' sign near the end.

Captures the games perfectly.

The family opening could have worked if he didn't immediately fall off the map.

That's the thing. It had potential, and Bethesda dropped the ball big time. It didn't work, so trying to pull a similar thing again with more family forcing and hurting player agency is such really really stupid.

Erf I don't want to play a mom or dad , I would feel slightly guilty everytime my pc is high as kite on chems or feels like having sex with ghouls and sex bots.

It's just a direction they take here. They don't need to learn anything in general at least. They pretty much do what you're asking for in TES, which are just as open ended as NV.

Well maybe they will do it right this time. Though I find it highly unlikely because they would have to make you actually like them.

Is it sad that I enjoyed NV trailer far more and pre-ordered that game when I saw it, where I don't have that feeling for FO4?

I'd probably be excited for this if I had a PC that could likely play it. Obviously don't know the requirements but I'm guessing my clunky old machine won't run it if I'm down to running Skyrim on high due to the number of mods I'm running. No mods, no point, with a Bethesda game. Maybe in a few years I'll be picking up the edition with all the DLC.

EDIT: Also, I really don't want a voiced protagonist or a set one in these open-world sandbox RPGs.

iDiffrence being TES is just as poorly written outside lore as FO3.

NV does give you a forced back story via DLC more or less, though.

You mean outside the lore, it's poorly written? I guess I'll agree.

But then, I just play them as a sort of medieval detective / explorer. Stumbling upon oddities and murder scenes and stuff. The environment tells all the story I need.

so a non sappy background is ok?

NV gave you a background - even the original fallout did that bit, as did Fallout 2.

I admit after seeing the Fo4 trailer, I wondered if we were going to be playing the dog.

The lore isn't well written.

NV gave you a pretty basic one, at least until Lonesome Road

The only forced thing in the dlc is you delivered a package earlier and had a preferred courier route. That's really it. Nowhere near as bad as forced family.

Anyway I'm not sure Bethesda would go this way , I haven't played FO3 , but in Skyrim , well it felt like sex wasn't actually a thing .
