“It [FO4] is not coming to 360 and PS3, the stuff we’re doing will never work there,” Matt Grandstaff, Bethesda global community manager said in a neogaf thread.

Interesting piece on Kotaku, (and reader comments--remember, these are the hardcores) that the trailer might imply more than meets the immediate eye. Some well though out speculation. Of course, we'll know what's what pretty soon, but here it is to feed imaginations until E3:

I know this is the popular theory:

Well, maybe. The theory making the rounds right now is that the guy at the start of the trailer might have gotten into a vault with cryogenic freezing, making it possible for people inside of it to stay alive for long periods of time. Ergo, it could be possible for someone from before the war to still be alive way afterward, during the post-apocalypse.

But I stand by my prediction that you're actually an artificial human with implanted memories. What measure is a man and all that for the story. And I think the Vault experiment is whether they can effectively "preserve" humanity in what would otherwise be a totally hostile/alien environment by preserving minds.

Android undertones from FO3, rumors, and the Boston/Institute setting pretty much are guarantees of some sort of an android theme. To what extent, and how deep that will run in the game is anybody's guess. I really liked the quest design of The Replicated Man in FO3 with Zimmer, Pinkerton and Harkness. You really feel like there is much, much more to the story.

I think we're getting ready to find out!

Also, just thought of this, with all the talk of androids, that That Gun in FONV is directly modeled after Deckard's gun in Bladrunner.

This makes more sense to me than cryogenics, there's a place called something along the lines of  "Memory Den" in the trailer. Also, Vault 112 was the simulation place in Fallout 3, Artficial Memories seems like something close to a simulation (we appear to be coming from Vault 111 and I believe the Vaults are close in purpose based on their numbers, might be wrong).

While the cryogenic sleep theory sounds pausible, one that I find more likely would be this:

That the guy at the trailer is the antecesor of the protagonist. At the intro you get to customize your character, if male, your protagonist looks just like the father. If female she will look like the mother. Anyway, once the bombs alarm goes off the couple goes to the vault and manages to enter in the last second.

I'd seen theories that if you chose female you played as the mother and if you chose male you played as the father, but one pet theory I have is that they ended up getting their baby in which got frozen at the cost of themselves and the player plays as it. It makes more sense to me because of how the dog sniffs the crib and runs to the guy, it got his scent from the crib.

I think this is the most likely if cryogenics is the way they end up going.

I annexed the thread and imprisoned him in an Enclave prison camp. All forms of protest, polls and acts of " free speech " will result in a one way trip to the Death Claw feeding pens.

I want a Fallout game in the Midwest so that we can see what's left of the Enclave is up to. I've read they have a Chapter in the Midwest.

Yeah, they're my favorite faction followed closely by the Regulators. I was a little salty when I realized you couldn't actually join the Enclave in FO3.

Funny you post that. I was just thinking that if it is the father that is being shown as the PC, then those who wanted to play a female would play the mother. I see I'm not alone in thinking that!

You're other theory is also plausible in that the child could be either male or female since we only see the infant in the crib and their mother's arms. The home at the beginning and the dog's familiarity with it (and the crib) seems almost 100% that it is the family's home. If we do play the child and the parents were killed in the blast (as I was assuming they were in the blast scene...but maybe that wasn't them), we were too small to remember any of what happened; but the family dog was mature and would remember scents, locations, etc. Thus we are almost guaranteed exploring our own home.

Also, just had this thought: IF we awake from cryo as a child, we have to be in the vault for a long time (unfrozen) to mature into the age of the assumed PC at the end. If we're a parent, then emergence from the vault happens fairly quick since he does look a lot like the father (at the same age) in the pre-war crib scene.

Hope that all makes sense, I feel like I'm rambling.

Of course, this all assumes a cryo theory.

What if it was just a promo and has nothing to do with the actual game?

Well seeing as the trailer has the mother, father, and baby all watching the bombs come down I doubt that they managed to survive.

What if it wasn't a nuke, but something else with not quite as much reach as an atom bomb (I'm assuming in atom bombs not having as much of a blast radius, not sure)?

Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't even have considered if any of them survived, but the guy in the 111 Jumpsuit at the end looks exactly like the guy with his wife and baby when the blast happens.

I'm also wondering if this game isn't going to precede Fallout 1 on the timeline and just be a few years after the bombs fell. I'd hate that though, I want to see the androids and how technology has progress in Fallout. To be honest, I'd like to see civilzation starting to take root again with quite a few settlements that aren't living in old run down buildings from before the war, but rather have built their own buildings from the ground up.

I think with Eric Todd Dellums leak way back when that we "would be seeing more of the Dog" and the GNN (just a slight variation off of GNR [Galaxy New Network, maybe??], but with the same graphic) sign you see with the BOS soldier lifting off in the Vertibird, I'm thinking we are going to be within a reasonable time frame of the events in the DC Wasteland...OR...Three-Dog's voice is recorded and on continuous playback, which is going to still put us after FO3 events.

Also, I think the trailer alludes to civilization beginning to take hold again.
