What are you expecting this will be? Do you have any experience with Bethesda games? What you described sounds like the antithesis to their games.

I expect this to me a more streamlined (a lot of people think streamlined is analogous to dumbed-down,which its not) and polished version of a Fallout game, the same way Skyrim is to the TES games. I have played Morrowind and Oblivion before, and I have genuinely tried to play and enjoy them, but could not because of the awful mechanics. I have briefly tried Fallout NV, but I honestly got bored of it's "Wild West" theme within the first 10 mins, so I can't really speak for Fallout games.

Fallout 3 is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

a

        ay better than Phantom Menace.

I loved all three that I've played, but I think New Vegas got the balance of everything best, so far. Never played the first Fallout, I started with the second.

Meh I liked both so I'll most likely will enjoy Fallout 4

What is a Fallout game though? Because from the gameplay perspective, Fallout 1&2 are completely different games from Fallout 3& New Vegas.

Do you expect it to be a streamlined version of Fallout 3 (which it will probably be), or a streamlined version of Fallout 2?

And for the record, Skyrim and Fallout 3 (as well as New Vegas) run on the exact same engine. So I'm not sure why do you find one of those clunky, and the other not.

They have the same camera work, the same physics engine, very similar graphics (TES V graphics are better of course, but it's not a revolution), quite similar gameplay mechanics (map & fast travel, dialogue system, sneaking, lockpicking are exactly the same, with some small improvements in Skyrim, but nothing major, game menus are very similar, inventory system is nearly the same...). So I'm not exactly understanding your point here.

I can understand with Morrowind since it's really old at this point. But Oblivion is recent and most of the mechanics present in Oblivion exist in Skyrim. What mechanics did you feel were outdated in Oblivion?

I thought Skyrim runs on the creation engine (which was specifically made for Skyrim and future bethesda games onwards) while Fallout 3, NV and Oblivion ran on the gamebryo engine? I'm not an expert on this so they might be more similar than I think they are.

As I said before, I have only played Fallout NV for a fragment of a moment before, so I can't exactly speak for the Fallout series, but when playing Oblivion I can definitely feel that, while they serve the purpose of simulating reality, the mechanics actually broke my immersion badly thanks to their poor implementation/execution in the game. The matter I'm complaining about is rather difficult to explain as I do not think the mechanics are inherently bad by nature, but rather the way they are shown to us and the way we have to interact with them.

Perhaps I'll be able to elaborate on this further when I think on this a little more.

I'd much (much much) rather have any Fallout game made by Obsidian, but Skyrim has shown that Bethesda is not completely hopeless in terms of building a good world with grey morality. So there's hope. Some of it.

Funny, you are right, and I was wrong.

It is a different engine, although it doesn't in the slightest feel (at least for me) like a different engine.

I want some consequences to my actions. And I want an actual ending, showing the results of my choices.

It was probably the worst thing about Fallout 3. And Skyrim for that matter.

Really I can't think of anything that ever really brought morals even more so that was any shade of gray  the extent of morals was should I kill or steal something or become a monster that has something to with being that are usually thought to be evil Fallout 3 did better but in my opinion then New Vegas had the best of any of the 3, NV skyrim Oblivion tbh i haven't played through 3 or Oblivion other than a couple of times

I agree about choices matter in skyrim but maybe it is because of few times I played through 3 but i felt like my choices mattered somewhat

Eh, hopefully we get a True Fallout 4 by Obsidian after they gave us the True Fallout 3 in the past.

Or maybe this time Bethesda will know how to make a Fallout game that feels like a Fallout game, not a ESO wannabe without a soul.

I doubt if Neo-joinEveryFactionWithoutRepurcussions-Bethesda can pull anything that is not shallow these days. Especially if their previous model was lucrative for them.

Might I also say, Gamebryo is such a **** engine. Rumor has it, it will probably run on id Tech 5 which is one of the solid engines out there.

You monster.

I liked it too.

The credits were awesome.

Anyway.

I hope (if this is true) that Beth get their A game together and make something not Fallout 3. The world was far too bleak, it's like they never played Fallout to begin with.

Take their lessons from Obsidian who made the superior game and go from there. They CAN make improvements, and Skyrim was a huge step forward from Oblivion (even if they took half a step back when it came to their levelling system.)

Either way.

I can't wait to burn 0 calories on this thing.

For the record, I don't particularly care if they do an online Fallout MMO, or something similar. It won't replace a sequel, unless they're dumb enough to actually do it instead of a sequel, in which case I wouldn't have any faith in their ability to get a sequel right, either.

But I'm confident that no one would screw up that badly. If they do an online game, I would imagine it would be a separate project from a sequel. It might suck, I don't really care, but even if they greenlight it, I just can't see them sacrificing a sequel with such profit potential in the process.

But are you ready for the inevitable plethora of bugs and glitches though? Quality Assurance isn't in Obsidian's dictionary.

With guns though, fam. With guns. World of difference. Just ask Far Cry 3. I actually didn't enjoy Skyrim as much as I hoped to so I definitely wouldn't be looking forward to Bethesda rehashing the same formula.

My Skyrim is already modded as a FPS though  :P although FC3 does it alot better. I vastly preferred NV to Fallout 3 and would prefer Obsidian to develop the next game is all.
