Starting in another vault? Wow Bethasda, you're soooo original....,

That is really strange if we start in the Vault again.

It looks like it happens after New Vegas chronologically (seeing as what tech there is, and how the cities look). All Vaults should have been emptied by that point. I think only Vault 101 was supposed to never be opened. At this point it's more than 2 centuries after the Vaults were created...

Please don't screw this up Bethesda...

"Lets go pal." Effin' awesome!

Voiced protagonist this time? That would be awesome.

The trailer looks great. Seems the game is pretty far into the development too.

Vault Dweller is way better than farmer or courier. You are so positive :D

Vault Dweller, Chosen One and Courier where all great. Lone Wanderer was boring as hell. Bethesda could have done something else instead of another protag coming from the vault. It's boring.

I expected it to look much grittier with a brownish-yellow look like Fallout 3 did, but honestly it looks good in a totally different way.

Yeah, very colorful.

I'm curious about the Noir-ish bit too....

/Expecting Bethesda to follow lore when they broke it to hell in FO3.

I disagree, i think the vault dweller aspect follows how Bethesda wants to tell their stories. Like prisoner in Elder Scrolls, it is just a thing regardless of you thinking its boring or not. So we just have to be in disagreement about that.

It reminds me of Borderlands, especially the part where Vault door 111 gets opened, so many vibrant colors.

So you admit Bethesda can't be original with their stories.

And I really don't like this either. Hopefully that's just trailer stuff and the protag does not talk in the game.

No i am saying taht the time you step out of Vault 101 had 10 times the impact on me than stepping out of Doc Mitchell's house. The atmosphere in Bethesda's games are just better than Obsidian. This trailer aswell, the color usage, the small easter eggs at every corner, the music, the weather, the lighting, it is pure attention to detail and it tells a story more than some words can. Yeah i am on the hype train, but Bethesda is amazing at what they do and i happen to enjoy what they do.

Atmosphere means nothing when the writing quality of the story, characters and how the protag is handled is grade one.

Voiced protagonist has the potential of locking off many roleplaying opportunities done through perks and skill checks. One thing I liked about Vegas was it's integration of skills checks to the point where dialog was RPG gameplay, not just dialog. Having a voiced protagonist severely cuts into that. Beyond pure time and implementation constraints, certain skill and perk checks imply certain attitudes and behaviours that will either come out as monotone, or hammy (to overcompensate).

Hell, we might not even get a female protagonist this time around, who knows. So I'm hoping it isn't voiced.

Anyways I'm sure Bethesda will release a popular game. As long as they keep it away from the West Coast and don't institute paid mods, I can't really ask for more. There's no point asking for an internally consistent world, half decent writing or respecting established lore, because Bethesda hasn't done the first two since Morrowind and the last one since ever.

If the game is a decent open world experience with a nice visual atmosphere and good exploration, I'll be fairly satisfied.

Fallout 4: Your son leaves the Vault and you have to go after him.

Ok, seriously, the Lone Wanderer was my favorite PC and I have played all Fallout games. However, this was not due to him being a Vault Dweller but because we were able to play through different stages of his life which allowed me to extablish an emotional connection with the Lone Wanderer and the characters and world around him.

It's not like NV did it much better. "Here's a pipboy for no reason."

Therefore, it might not be original but, if the prologue is done right, I have no problem with it.

Ok, impressions:

Good

-Loved seeing Zero Hour of the apocalypse.

-The dog looks to be more interactive than Dogmeat.

-The scenery looks to be just my type. Wasteland of rock with dead trees and highways rather than an empty desert plus ruins of cities.

-Changing weather. Sunny, foggy, rainy, thunderstorm and what appears to be a sandstorm.

Bad

-Airship straight out of Final Fantasy.

-Voiced PC.

-The graphics look very archaic. Hopefully they are improved before final release.

Is anyone already dreaming of what the new CC looks like?

Or is rushing to amazon to click pre order?

God I really really hope they get good writers to help them. Hell they don't even need obsidian as a whole just borrow some of the writers.

I wonder if we can fly because of all the vertibirds and the other flying ship Also this is most like the enclave we are seeing since the BOS was primary west coast and only made it to dc before settling down or was it this Institute we heard about

And Courier destroyed the lone Wander because of agency and the freedom of how you could create their backstory. Yes FO3 had a strong prologue, it also had an extremely weak cast, story and poor agency. NV had a weak prologue, it shined everywhere else.

Making another vault protag is boring, there are plenty of ways they could have set this up, but true to Bethesda who can't create an original story, they just fall back on old tired things just like in TES.
