When are you "locked" into a romance?  Cullen and I have played kissy face a couple of times, but now I think I'd like to romance Solas.  Is it too late? :(

You can break off the relationship with Cullen in a few points, though I can't imagine why you would want to! ;)

But you can only start a romance with Solas during one conversation, so it might be too late.

Did you already go on the fade trip with him?

The relationship doesn't usually lock in until you hit a certain dialogue option that warns you that you are committing to the relationship. I know Blackwall is glitched and blocks any other romance after the first flirt, but I don't know about Solas and Cullen. Also, be sure to be an Elf to romance Solas.

You can still end it with Blackwall after it locks in on the ramparts. Just talk to him and tell him you want to end things.

Cullen locks right after the scene post wicked hearts and abyss. After that there's no break up point, or at least not that I have found.

You can break-up with Cullen until after you have fun time on his desk. After that you can no longer break it off. Also, if you already did the conversation with Solas where you talk to him back in Haven in the fade while sleeping, and you didn't kiss him, you can't ever start a relationship with him.

When was Blackwall glitched? I played flirty pants with both male and female characters neither of which ended up with him.

I've heard terms soft and hard lock. The latter is the big commitment one.

Of course I have a sick mind and so did not mention those terms after commenting on the desk scene...

Ok, I already went to Haven with Solas, so I guess I missed my opportunity.

For Cullen, the romance locks after the cheeky cutscene, which will take place after you complete either the Winter Palace or Adamant. Any time before that point I'm fairly certain you can break up with him. You can also break up with him during that scene, but it won't progress any further once you've broken it off.

In order to romance Solas, I think you have to take the kiss option with him in Haven, since once that is taken he will ask you if you want to have a relationship with him and you can either choose to romance him or not... sorry.

I've never seen the option, nor do I want to. That said, I would argue that it's only "weird" if you've taken the "I want more than fun" path, because that certainly makes it seem quite serious. But, if you've only said you want this to be a fun fling, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to break it off.

There are certain conversations that can set the overall tone of the romance and really allow the player to react to Dorian in different ways. You can be flippant and flirty, you can be serious and romantic, or a combination of the two paths. I think it would be odd to pick the more serious responses early on and then choose "Let's keep this fun," because it seems contrary to your previous behavior and suggested intention, likewise if you break it off completely after the sex.

It really depends on the context of the romance and how the lock-in scene is done. While I do think players should have the option, I think that taking it is strange in those cases where the lead up to it has your character doing and saying things that make it sound like you are interested in more than just casual sex. To my mind, if you have those romantic dialog options and then you do break it off after sex, you are a really horribly manipulative a-hole. Of course, if a player wants to RP a horribly manipulative a-hole, then that's their prerogative.

I support being allowed to be a complete *******.

I also support there being consequences for it. If you had a companion like Cullen who makes it very clear that he wants a future with the PC, you should still be able to dump him the morning after. .. and he should leave your party.

One of the things that irritated me the most about DA2 was that your companions were basically friends until the end no matter what you did.

"Hey, Fenris, check out my new slave!"

"Sure Danarius, you can have Fenris -- oh wait, I changed my mind. "

Rivalry was a great mechanic in some ways, but it allowed you to do some pretty messed up stuff with no consequences. At least in Origins and inquisition there's good reason for your companions and advisors to stick around no matter how big of an ass you are.

I think for Blackwall, the hard lock is after you choose to continue being with him when he's being judged. Even then you have the chance to end it, but once you commit and kiss in front of everyone (what were they thinking?), it's permanent.

I want to romance both Blackwall and IB in my current playthrough to see their romances. I'd like to end up with Bull but see as much as possible of both romances in one playthrough.

Does anyone know if it's possible to be with Blackwall until his judgement (and not talk to Bull or do his quest in the meantime) then break it off and start the IB romance?

I think Blackwall locks people out REALLY early. Kiss on the battlements and your Inquisitor is tied to McBeardy forever.

That's partially true - while the battlements thing is a soft lock that will keep you from romancing others early on, you can still break up with him in your room after Explanations or later on during Revelations. You're not actually tied to him forever unless you decide to commit during Revelations.

At all points of the game? This is true of Sera throughout most of it as well, but once you get the final romance dialogue, that's your last chance and the option disappears if you choose to continue. There's nothing like that for Dorian?

I got the beloved achievement after completing Explanations and being surprised to wake alone.  The other note I found at the same time left a questionmark over my head, as did the timing of the achievement.  Talk about confusing!
