Here's the announcement.

Available for any reason up to 14 days after purchase, for any game played less than 2 hours. Refund would be through original method of payment, or through Steam Wallet if unavailable.

Long overdue, I think.

For any game played less than 2 hours, eh?

Don't know about the average person, but I usually try longer to find redeemable aspects to a game I'm having trouble appreciating. Hell, I gave DAI around 70 hours until I finally gave up on it.

Seems like a pretty cheap cop-out. This is a faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar way from Origin's GGG policy. That one, even if it's limited to seven days after purchase, at least let's you play how much you can within the frst 24 hours after first playing it to get a halfway decent feel for the game. And I've gotten a refund for a AAA game (Titanfall) after that deadline had official passed because I simply asked EA support politely, still no questions asked. Tough luck even getting Steam support to respond to anything.

This new policy is nothing more than barebone compliancy with EU laws that mandate the right for customers to refund a product. The EU had been breathing down Steam's neck for quite some time in that regard, with Steam having tried to sneak past the required regulations a couple times already.

Hopefully this will allow Origin to expand the GGG to other publishers as well (EA games are only covered by GGG so I am assuming other publishers did not want to take part), if they are doing refunds for Steam why not Origin.

But ya nice that people finally get refunds rather than Steam's normal practice of changing the EULA to avoid things like this.

Still not touching Steam though as the customer support is beyond abysmal.

Two hours doesn't seem like enough, especially in games like Witcher 3 or Inquisition that can easily take upwards of 60 hours to play. Why, you can spend two hours on DA:I's CC alone!

This sounded nice, till it was only for two hours. lol. The prologue of TW3 took me almost ten hours....

It's very subjective. For instance, in two hours you could finish a COD SP campaign but it's barely enough to get into the MP. Also, crafty devs could deliver an incredible two-hour intro level to a lousy 16-hour game. I think I prefer the way Origin does it although it only applies to EA games.

Does this mean I can finally get a refund for Bad Rats?

While two hours does seem like a very little amount of time for a lot of games. I think a time gate is set so people don't just play through a game and then ask for a refund so they can get a "free" game in the end.

I don't think you need a time gate for that. If people try to abuse the system, the pattern will be spotted immediately.

I agree, I'm just saying I think that's part of the reason. And it's another way for Valve to back out of having to give out a refund.

If you get a refund, are you still allowed to buy the game again later on?

Because I might be able to beat the Call of Duty single player campaign in less than two hours.

So I tried a refund this morning (morning ish) actually. I received an email this afternoon, and was told my Steam Wallet would be refunded within the next 7 days.
Maybe I got lucky and support did read my ticket or maybe it's an automated system ( because it does say for WHATEVER reason). I'm betting on the latter.

DISCLAIMER: If you want to refund one game out of a purchase of multiples they will ( at least that is what it looks like to me right now) refund the entirety of that purchase.

Example
3 Games: G1 $2.01 G2 $3 G3 $23.99 purchased together for $29. Lets say you want to refund G3. You'll get the original $23.99 plus the other $5 if they are all one the same receipt. I'm not sure if this is intentional. Or if it's a bug.

I had purchased 2 games at once. My email is only telling me the price of the game I wanted to refund. But on the Support section under recent purchases the other game I had purchased shows it is being refunded as well (which I do not need or want refunded). Because it's of a larger receipt. I'm not sure if I will receive that amount though. Will be interesting to see.

Another interesting thing of note is the actual game I wanted to receive a refund on is still in my library with a PURCHASE button instead of PLAY ( lol Gaben you cutie, I told you I don't want to play it anymore... Silly) But the other title is still available to play. So I'm guessing they wont refund me the other game? I hope not. I don't want to have to repurchase it.

Maybe it's because it's still installed on your computer.

If you delete its local content, it might disappear from your list.

Well, it's a start. Really, Steam not offering refunds beforehand was borderline illegal. Two hours is not a long period (would rather 7 days, regardless of hours played) but yeah. It's a start.

This is just another way for Valve to maximize their profits and now screw developers, publishers, and ultimately gamers.

I won't stop spewing hate towards Valve until Half Life 3!
