Hey Guys,
have a serious Problem. New Windows 7 installed and thought to play Mass Effect 1 with BdtS, but cant, because of saferun.exe Error .. Installation Progress 92,8% and then the saferun.exe message.

couldnt imagine, that bioware stil havent fixed this ( 2 Years...) on my xp (sp3) no problems.

i have read something about the extraction method, but this seems not working on win7..

a lot of people are able to install ME1 on Win7 maybe this is a 64 Problem? on the other hand more and more threads with this saferun error in Win7 64

i didn't do anything special, maybe you can try running as admin? Or it might be a problem with your DVD or DVD drive. Sometimes the install might fail because the DVD can't be read properly. Cleaning the disk or trying to install using another DVD drive might help.

Windows 7 64bit running ME1 + BDTS, and ME2 with no problems. ME1 is a Fileplanet "Direct2Drive" digital download version and ME2 is a Steam version. After poking around the tubes, seems saferun.exe doesn't like some anti-virus programs. Also some people who have been running "shady" programs (cd emulators, DRM by-pass tools, etc.) have reported problems with saferun.exe. So if your system is clean, I'd disable any anti-virus you have and see if that makes it happy.

That makes it sound like your DVD drive is the problem. Not reading it correctly.

If you can network your desktop and your laptop together (good luck getting win7 and XP to talk to each other), then you could put the DVD into the laptop's drive, map a network drive to it from your desktop, and install it that way.

It seems like a simple read error, that Win7 can't recover whereas XP does, and that's probably just due to the make of your respective DVD drives...

You ARE running the install on win7 in elevated mode, right?

I have found the solution by myself and hope this will help some others.. no copying necessary, because this wouldnt work for sure.. in my case...!!!

Solution for : Windows 7 Professional 64
setup bug and saferun.exe problem
-------------------------------------------------
setupbug:
------------
Compatibiliy Mode was deactivated. Because in comatibility mode the setup gets in a freakin loop
After keycodeentry the setup will be cancelled and windows 7 tells to start the setup new.. after starting the setup installation gets again cancelled after keycodeentry.

Solution:

rightcklick on setup - comatibilitymode - show settings for all users and there disable the compatibility mode - !!! every comp mode from xp to vista will end in this loop.
run the programm as administrator.
this will end the loop and your setup will work
--------------------------------------------------
Next problem saferun.exe
-------------------------
i have had tried some drives on my pc and notebook. copying the files wont work, crc errors or unable to copy something somewhere. the drives werent broken or somewhat. i think some protectionstuff or bad pressed dvd.
i got the saferun.exe and this was a hard nut for me, because i was sure all emulationsoftware was disabled like poweriso, alcohol or something like that. But PowerIso wasnt decativated. it looked like, because i taken it out of autostart and started the machine...

i have deleted this txt file wich is temporarely active before hitting the setup

get 100% sure all emulationsoftware is deactivated! after deactivation - restart - only disabling it wont work..

run the setup as administrator and keep the comp mode off - try it.

--------------------------------------------------
Now i have installed ME1 on my notebook and pc. Worked well without problems!
next Step is BdtS X)

my opinion...<3B)
I havent had any problems with bioware games, and i have owned all and payed them... Mass effect was the first game ever i was frustrated by some bugs (on XP) and now this on win7 64

dragon age runned without problems..nwn 2 nwn jade empire lol sonic chronicles kotor.. and more.. bioware do their job well..
exluding kotor 2 (obsidian, full of bugs and a cutten story because of pushing the release date)

they should lower this protection stuff, because the game will get copied in all ways, i bought it and felt like a fool, this feeling shouldnt harrass owners of payed games..

You sir, must be a retard. First of all, please take more than 2 seconds when posting an answer instead of just pound on the keyboard frantically like you obviously did. Secondly, share the proper information. It's not
"rightcklick on setup - comatibilitymode - show settings for all users and there disable the compatibility mode - !!! "
it's rightclick "setup>>properties>>Compatibility>>CHANGE settings for all user>>uncheck compatibility mode".

Not being able to understand wtf you've been trying to say has made this hole ordeal much more annoying than it should've been.

I have Window 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Radeon 4800 by MSI
MSI K9A2 CF-F V2 AM2+/AM2 AMD 790X Motherboard
4GB Corsair Dominator 1066 DDR2 RAM
Plenty of space
I have the digital download version

I still get the saferun.exe/dll errors....same file everytime...I've uninstalled all virtual drives and even uninstalled my antivirus for the time being. Compatability mode doesn't work. UAC didn't make a difference and neither does safe mode. It worked on 64-bit Vista Ultimate (asside from the in-game crashes). I tried WinRAR's repair feature and it did changed the file sizes slightly, but still gives me the same error. I get the error at 53.1% in the maps01.rar file. I tested the archive with WinRAR and if finds only one corrupt file. The corrupt message is this:

...\\data\\maps01.rar: CRC failed in BioGame\\CookedPC\\Maps\\JUG\\DSG\\BIOA_JUG40_04_DSG.SFM. The file is corrupt

I've tried the complicated workaround and end up getting lost....I won't turn to pirating because the pirated versions cause even more problems with the cracks...If only there were a way to simply get a new, non-corrupt, version of the file.....Does anyone have any suggestions at all?
