Mounts are cushions.
"Oh, a cliff!"
*whistles*
"C'mere, horsey!"
Can you mount jump off cliffs without dying?

Sure can. Made good use of that mare on my continuous visits to the dog merchant in the Hissing Wastes, leaping into the cavern.
I really like the way some of the mounts look, but losing banter is too much. (I wish your companions had mounts, too, and you could race with them... sigh.)
So, occasionally in the Hissing Wastes, because it's huge and pretty (of course, I always miss the Chantry Sisiters when I do that). Also, sometimes I send my Inquisitor out solo to do missions that are personal to him/her or thinks that she/he thinks the Inquisition wouldn't approve of (weird RPing, maybe? Eh...), and then they may use mounts.
Hate to do this - but riding horses in TW3 is terrific. Feels fast and the control button (PS4) is x - so very easy to use. I find the L3 for DA very annoying to use while riding and the riding seems so slow.
If Bioware could smooth things out for next game, that would be great.
Outside of fast-travel, I run everywhere in just about every game outside of ones like GTA where driving is an obvious necessity. Exploring on horseback or in a vehicle doesn't feel the same as exploring it on-foot; it's not as fun.
I'm just discovering the joy of not getting side tracked when I'm trying to finish a whole lot of quests. Now I use mounts, every once in a while.
I rarely use the mounts because I can't use the search ping or interact with anything while mounted; I don't want to miss precious resources between points A and B. Anyone else just run on foot most of the time?
Same here. I really don't use the horse much at all. For the same reason. I download a map of the area and pick up all the goodies on the way.
The only time I use mounts is when I'm jumping down to the merchant in the Hissing Wastes. The banter timers are long enough without missing banter because I'm mounted. That said, if I'm just ducking off to do some shopping or to do a quick sweep of Alphonse's Passage to harvest Dawnstone and Silverite, I'll do that solo. I play using keyboard and mouse, and navigating the party selection screen is too much of a hassle to bother with if I already know the trip will be too short for banter to fire. I would rather they'd arranged the cards like a telephone number pad so I could click them and be done with it.
I can count on one hand the total number of times that I used a mount.
It was the five times that I teleported to the wastes and then rode a horse directly to the store in the canyon.
