I'm really disappointed to hear about the Hawke/Fade part.  I kind of suspected it when it said "will likely die", but it's still disappointing to hear that this choice will ultimately be negated.  It's just faux choice in that case.  The illusion of choice, unless there are some serious consequences depending on who gets left behind.  I might be bitter because I was really pleased about the prospect of killing off Hawke, but I still think it's a bum deal.

So how about the other parts of the interview?

Very curious which aspects of the game PW talked about here:

The next game will focus on what worked in surprising ways in Inquisition

I'm disappointed by the fact that they aren't going to do another "building your power" story again. I liked it as a concept and kind thought it could have used some improvement after Inquisition.

I think we can all agree on one thing; Twitter sucks when it comes to trying to do an interview.

Agreed fortunately it will be up on Youtube very soon.

Anyone want to help with a transcript? It's three hours long....

All that stuff are pretty intresting from Weekes implying they will do more transgender characters to mental image of him and Gaider roleplaying Adoribull romance.. but this caught me most: Here Lies the Abyss originally was suppose to be where you met, The Architect from DAI DLC.

We were supposed to meet Architect here and that almost became true?! Does this mean that he would have been one of Corypheuses chest pieces and would have been behind screwing with wardens? Or would he be ally in this quest, to go against Corypheus? Maybe this could have even depend on whatever Warden sided or not with him in Awakening, if he did then he would ally himself with Inquisitor and if not then he would be one of antagonists.

He's one of my fav characters so I'm quite sad that we almost got him in DAI, but sadly BW decided not to. Though this would mean that he could be reserved for some bigger purpose in next game.. just having my hopes up for no reason here ^^;

No please The Architect is a pain in the ass,by far more worse and clever than Corypheus, these magisters are the reincarnation of evil, they stareted the blights, one of them started personaly a blight this guy The Architect, the other has done something more "original" open an hole to the sky,and it seems that there are 5 around,

I feel bad very bad for Thedas

Somewhat but not always. There are examples of what might be considered, uh, chauvinistic attitudes towards women...and also violence against women, up to and including rape, torture, murder. Personally, I don't think it's a bad thing to depict such things. The difference is... is the game trying to glorify such behavior, or trying to get people to think critically? And I'll stick this behind a spoiler tag just so I don't veer too far off topic, but...

Spoiler

Oh there is totally sexist **** in dragon age games - but the player character is never allowed to express it which was my point.

If the next game has no pro-transgender message, then this discussion is rendered academic. But even if it's presented in concept, with neutrality, and no choice options are given, then my original point still stands. Player choice should be encouraged. Like, hey here's this concept, what do you think of it?

*Dialogue wheel appears*

I wasn't referring to Inquisition, which I already wrote pulled it off rather well. I'm referring to any future installment.

I'm still shaky on what counts as a "pro-transgender message." What exactly are you worried about?

And I hate to keep beating on ROI, but what I'm getting from you is that not letting the PC be an ass about a transgender NPCs is unacceptable, so they shouldn't have transgender NPcs if they don't want to burn the wordcount for the PC being an ass. This sounds like a caricature, so what's the actual position?

I wish they hadn't said about Hawke/****** left in the Fade until they revealed it. Or actually, made it so the Weisshaupt character was the one that was killed off instead of the Fade character. (Which they still might do) But the point is, the fates of these people should be left mysterious until the right moment.

Oh and as a Cersei lover, seeing the High Sparrow makes me cry angry tears...

Just using your post as a base here:

I don't know why people keep saying things like "pro-gay" and "pro-transgender" etc. Real people advocate for people's rights and equality, not favour and privilege, despite what others seem to think. If Bioware wants to include members of a minority to be more realistic, or simply to be more diverse, I don't see how that equates to anything more than itself. No one is saying gay people are better than anyone else, just the same. I can't believe I have to say that.

If the inclusion of these characters furthers society along just enough that one person isn't killed, beaten, or even insulted where they otherwise might have been, then it was worth it.

Patrick didn't say anything we didn't already know though. In the game, it said X will likely die. Him saying that them possibly being alive is obvious is, well, stating the obvious.

Wait what? but you can be an asshat in DA:I when talking to Krem about his id, so I do not get what people are getting at. Also Sera can be really gross when it comes to penis/male, vaginas/female kinda of jokes, also really shitty comments in the Orlais ball.

So if anything there is a lot of non-political correctness in game already about this, and to be honest cringeworthy comments in the other games.

In the interview he said that if he did it again he wouldn't give the option to be an asshat, which is what sparked this. Personally I'm pro them not letting the character express real life bigoty (since they don't let the pc express other prejudices, letting them be so to transgenders in the first place was weird) but other seem to want that realism.

I think the resource would be better spent on letting your character talk about in game issues, there wasn't nearly enough opportunity to disagree or present a counter argument to what npcs/companions were saying about things like mages and elves in DAI in my opinion.

I know, and it was something I myself had speculated. But their unwillingness to confirm the commonly held belief that the Fade character is dead is at least in some way telling of future plans.

It seems increasingly apparent that few people have any actual logical conception about what 'equality' means or demands at all.

If the inclusion of these characters furthers society along just enough that one person isn't killed, beaten, or even insulted where they otherwise might have been, then it was worth it.

You know how this sort of thing makes feel?

Contemptuous. Contemptuous of this whole 'struggle' and the people involved with it. That's the legacy you're leaving me, and no doubt many others.

Wouldn't want you to have any silly illusions that this is a 'positive, positive, positive' influence, now.

Ooh, so edgy.

Anyway......... with regard to the Hawke thing, anyone think that this means that s/he'll end up making another appearance or do you think his/her fate will just be determined either off-screen or in books/comics?

Hardly. Just simple reality. I'm doing people a favor. Helping them understand that this sort of thing is likely really not as simple as 'the more we do this, the more people embrace and love whatever minority blah blah blah'

I could see a DLC being focused on the Fade choice and the Nightmare Demon

Ugh.  I could see that too.  And it makes me sad.  I really have very little desire to ever play as Hawke again, so a DLC about his/her 'escape from the Fade' sounds super snooze worthy to me.  I'd rather him/her just be dead at this point.

Tbh, I kinda had a feeling that it might possibly be touched on again due to the "likely die" message along with the fact we never really dealt with Nightmare

In awakening the Baroness went physically to the fade and actually turned into a pride demon, cole is of course a spirit who copied an original human being and the divine in the fade could be either of these or something like. The line between mortal and spirit seems less and less solid.

I reckon if the protagonist is DA4 goes to the fade, they might meet some spirit like version of Hawke/the warden.

I think the Baroness Pride Demon might have been a spirit who copied the original Orlesian blood mage the same way Cole did. She acts like she's never been out of the fade before and Justice says something like "That is a demon of pride. There was such a mortal once, but no more."
