I guess to be fair, very few video game IP's w/ multiple games have had the focus that the Mass Effect trilogy had. The looseness of DA is a strength imo though, that looseness let's the writers explore the lore however they want and invent stuff on the fly - they're not bound. The only negative I can think of is whether you believe they can execute on their ideas, but the starting point isn't the reason why things don't work out.

One of the main things I like about DA over ME is that their story is more about a series of events than one overall story

Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 are Bioware's best stories though. DA:O may be the best among DAs but it's a pale imitation of BG really.

This....

DAO has no where near the quality of plot and villain BG2 had.

DAO is one of Bioware weaker plots, its the four mid stories that make the game more memorable. The main plot however....yuck

But the looseness also causes problems. A universe should have one big unique thing. Dragon Age really doesn't (outside of Chantry politics). Its more than just story that the Dragon Age series lacks focus, but the overall game direction.

Thats why Mass Effect is a better received series and a more influential one. It had a better focus and direction, and a clear progression of change between installments. It wasn't perfect....Renegade in the first two games were terrible, but it had a natural evolution.

I didn't find the Deep Roads a chore. That's just me :o

Also liked the Deep Roads and the Fade; was the backtracking in the Brecilian Forest that gave me pause.

The problem with these sorts of comparisons is that the Mass Effect trilogy as a whole could be seen as a very expanded version of the same type of quest line presented in Dragon Age: Origins. The big difference is that Dragon Age as a series is not about any one story, whereas Mass Effect is.

I'll probably get a hate response for this but TW feels too "dudebro" for my tastes.

I'd even take NWN over DA to be honest.

But NWN's story is inferior to DA.

Much better end boss though.  Three mind controlled powerful dragons > Dr. Corypheus Evil and his fricking laser beams.

And the multiplayer and expansions are far more superior than the main game's single player campaign.

Lol, you won't. Even though it's like saying "Inquisition feels too "Social Justice Warrior" for my tastes." THEN you would get a lot of resistance.

You mean for NWN? I thought Hordes of the Underdark was pretty great whereas NWN Vanilla was kind of boring, however it also had the Aribeth thing which I thought was kind of cool, minus Aribeth NWN was a bit boring I guess you could say.

Some kind of experience between HotU and NWN Vanilla (bridging the elements of both that I like) I'd take over DA:O. Maybe that's cheating but whatever. I mean, I don't think you can really appreciate Aribeth's redemption thing in Hordes without playing vanilla for ex.

Shadows of the Undrentide though I could not get into at all really.

I agree, I would've liked to see more of the City. Hopefully DLC expands it

Make it like Novigrad and I will be really happy.

And please replace the Orlais theme with something like this.

The Orlais theme was nice, but just doesn't work as a city theme that plays the entire time.

Indeed. The Fade however...boring, I love the Fade-Away-Mod though

But the Deep Roads? I liked 'em, mostly because FINALLY that part dealt with the Darkspawn ... you know, the actual enemy of us in DAO we hardly confronted or got to know...instead we hunted some ahses, dealt with werewolves and were supposed to consider Loghain a decent villain while rather incompetent at that...

I mean I love DAO with all my heart but ... it sometimes seem in regards to the above they already practiced here how to screw up Mass Effect ...

Can't say I'd agree with that. There's very little redeeming about BG1's narrative, in my opinion. Non-existent cast, plus a non-existent plot replaced by a scavenger hunt.

I disagree. I think DA:I's soundtrack was superior and Orlais theme very well fit the game, that is one of the main reasons I like to play in Emerald Graves so much.

I think both series had great soundtracks, and I hope Bioware brings back Trevor Morris for all future DA titles.

Having said that, I also hope DA4 plays its soundtrack more than DA:I. DA:I had a great soundtrack that you hardly ever hear, because most of the open world exploration is done to the ambient sounds of birds and crickets and such. This is just my personal preference, but I'd rather hear music than the sound of my character's boots trampling on the grass, no matter how great those sound effects are.

Considering DA2 has the strongest, to the point of forced, plot and cast out of Dragon Age, no. And BG is highly overrated.

Nah. DA2 actually has a cast of characters.
