Dunno how press will behave.

And don't care about Asian titles unless they localize.

So outside of those factors, from what I've seen so far, it is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

But there's a lot of close ones.

This isn't 2014 which was significantly more lackluster and DAI basically got it through *insert unfounded allegations* and just being one of the best in a not-so-fantastic pile. Not saying I hated DAI but I wouldn't consider it a GOTY in any more 'competitive' years.

Still half the year to go, of course. And holiday season may bring a lot of surprises.

But for at least 2Q or 1H 2015, I'd say it goes to TW3, overall.

What is so surprising with a game with such critical reviews and accolades winning game of the year when DA was able to do it?

The Witcher 3 is a legit GOTY contender, but it is also has stiffer competition than DA:I had. DA:I won GOTY largely because 2014 was a bad year for games.

I have to think hard of any worthwhile games apart from Wolfenstein: The New Order that were released in 2014, and tbh, I think the lackluster lineup is the only reason that DA:I won the GOTY award.

Or maybe it won because a lot of people geniunely think it's a great game?

As for this years, well, I'm hoping HoI4 will be it.

Batman: Arkham Knight can be a contender.

Rocksteady is back for this one and there previous two Batman games both are GOTY winners.

Metal Gear Solid 5 is also a contender, despite what people think about the series this game has a lot of hype as well as a lot of drama going on in the background which could boost sales or give the game a much more favourable review since it is seen as Kojima's last MG game.

I also find it funny with people saying DA:I didn't have much competition in 2014 when the same could be said about Witcher 3 in 2015 since a good chunk of games that are being released this year are remasters and not new games.

If Inquisition came out this year I think it'd do well enough. Remember it also would have meant they'd have gotten another half a year of development time on it.

Although for me right now my GOTY is The Witcher 3. Since we're only in June, that can easily change before the end of the year.

Not sure an extra half a year in development would help all that much, what exactly would they use this time to do? Not sure an extra layer of polish would really improve the game all that much and half a year is not enough time to completely dismantle and recreate the entire game from scratch.

I think that either The Witcher 3 or Fallout 4 (If it comes out) will win the GOTY. Arkham Knight, MGS Phantom Pain are also a possibility. Right now i just care about Fallout 4.

Well so far Bloodborne and Pillars of Eternity have been pretty good, Arkham Knight looks like it could be fun and we do have Phantom Pain coming as well as you said, there is also Xcom 2 and rumours that Fallout 4 could be released this year as well as the unknown that could potentially be announce at E3, Halo 5 is also coming as well for what it is worth, we will have to wait and see how these titles turn out before we appraise the quality of the competition.

Difference is even if this year does somehow turn out to have mostly lackluster titles like last year it still does not change the fact that the Witcher 3 is a bloody fantastic game that would deserve to win game of the year even in one of the best years in the games industry while Inquisition only managed to win due to the lackluster competition, in a better year it would not be even a blip on the radar.

As of now, The Witcher 3 but will not likely be the one I mention as my GOTY when I summarize this year.

I'll judge Halo 5 based on it being Halo thus ultimately another uninteresting shooter that can't seem to grasp what made less restrictive-non-hand-holding-shooters like Half Life so good.

I'm probably gonna enjoy Arkham Knight, if not for the irritating DLC practices and the possibility of another story filled to the brim with dudes from Batmans rogues gallery to the point where one can't be on screen for more than 5 seconds before the next guy show; Ultimately resulting in a mess of a plot ala Arkham City. In other words, I miss the tighter designed areas like the Asylum.

If Life is Strange keeps up the quality with the final 2 episodes then I'd safely call it one of my contenders, if not then Bloodborne or Pillars (forgot about that one) are probably up for the count. I am, however, willing to see if the 3DS are gonna sprout some good titles this year like Persona Q last year.

Persona 5 is most likely not gonna release outside of Japan this year so that one will wait for '16

I'm still uncertain if I'm gonna give Phantom Pain a shot -- I most likely will as a fan of the first 3 games and generally liking Big Boss' story, so yeah.

I think it will be a close race between Geralt, Bruce and Big Boss.

There are going to be tears if Fallout 4 comes out this year and dominates the GOTY and RPG awards.

Why not? If it has good story, good graphics, good presentation AND good gameplay then it's objectively the best rpg of the generation so far.

So far, my GOTY has to be Life is Strange.

But I'm still waiting for Rise of the Tomb Raider and Arkham Knight, too.
