Fallout 4: Male only. Story focused. Might not have character creation/customization.

Matter of opinion on whether the overall story was better but it's a simple fact that a silent protagonist is bad for it, a voiced protag is always better

That's opinion and I've always enjoyed games with silent protags more.

I enjoyed Dragon Age Origins over Dragon Age 2, Inquisition, Mass Effect, 2 and 3.

Kotor and Kotor 2 over The Old Republic.

Coincidence? Maybe. But, that's why I am concerned about the voiced main character.

Silent protagonist allows for more dialogue options due to not needing a voice actor to actually read all those lines, or multiple VAs if you're having a choice of gender. Plus while it doesn't always work out, it does allow the player to insert their own tone of the delivery of the line rather than the game having a pre-determined tone.

Right. I don't understand why people can't appreciate that.

In role-playing, do you consider the protagonist an extension or alternate version of yourself?

You know, for all the emphasis they put on voice acting in Old Republic, I'm still annoyed by the lack of voiced emotes like they have in World of Warcraft. I just don't feel like I'm a real Sith Lord when I can't make my character burst into laughter every other time they execute someone.

It really depends, sometimes both, either, or neither.

At times I play certain characters how I'd act, other times I let my mood determine things and then other times I set out a specific path for a character out of interest on what will happen before my playthrough even starts.

I wasn't crazy about the voice acting for some of the playable characters in that game, the voices did not fit my vision for my characters and I had to reroll as a female (I'm looking at you Male Jedi Counselor and Male Imperial Agent).

Right. But you do like to project, whether it's your character or your mood at the time, whatever it is. You put you in there.

I do that, and I prefer such games as give me the most room to do that.

Hence perhaps the affinity for the silent protagonist.

The game should just be an on rails shooter with a generic white buff protagonist and 2 guns IMO.

I prefer to create my own characters, and thus I enjoy silent PCs better, unless it's a set character like Jensen or Geralt.

Also all the dialogue should just be a ripoff of popular action hero lines from other movies and games.

Screw customization and open world. I don't got time to think and ****. I just want to shoot stuff and watch it explode :D

Yes if we where to be overly literal, saying filth off the floor tastes bad is technicaly a matter of opinion or even being beaten. As far as story goes a silent protag is always bad and your examples don't work as the voice acting aspect has nothing to do with the benefit of a protag as far as story goes, that is a cost to the studio and a drop in the ocean if we are going by  other costs.    The benefit of a silent protag for some and why characters such as Link, the Warden or Dovahkin are popular despite having 0 personality is that people project on to them, so it's story vs projection, neither choice wrong I just prefer the former.

You can never insert your own tone. You can pretend to ignore evidence of tone more easily than hearing it but there's no difference on that point. There's also the cost of information: conversations can't just work in the absence of pragmatics. Written correspondence is fundamentally different from picking animated dialogue.

No, no I am absolutely sure a voiced protag does not make a better experience without fail.

To chime in on this i've liked both silent and voiced protagonists for choice based games. It all depends on how it's handled. Having your choice and what you actually say be two different things is a pain. I've been playing a lot of SWTOR lately and the amount of times I choose an option and it comes out with the character doing something completely different is annoying.

I prefer voiced protagonists over silent ones mainly for the fact it shows the evolution of gaming technology.

I am of the belief that devs have the right to do what they want in regards to development even if it bites them in the ass.Its not their job to cater to gamers. Just tell the story they want.

O reading comprehension here, I clearly state that it makes a better story but it takes away from the ability to project, that may be a better experience for you, I never said otherwise.

How the hell does it make a better story? It makes dialog flow better but it does not increase the quality of the writing.

I haven't stated my opinions as facts at all. I find silent PCs better,  that's my opinion. If you don't agree that's cool but trying to say it's a fact that voiced PCs are better? Yeah.,..no.
