Fallout 4: Male only. Story focused. Might not have character creation/customization.

As long as its still open world and filled with whacky tomfoolery, I won't be too impacted. Having one character will allow them to create a more distinct character, too.

Honestly, yeah while character creation is a pillar of any RPG, I wouldn't call it a vital pillar. If Bethesda wants to tell a specific story focusing on one character and what goes on with that character, I don't see why they shouldn't be allowed to give it a go.

You are absolutely right and if this is the direction they want to go with in the latest game then who are we to tell them they can't do it? All the consumer can do is vote with their wallet, if it is something that appeals to them they will buy it, if it doesn't then they wont.

That being said I would still question the wisdom of such a decision, personally I am not a huge fan of Bethesda's Fallout so I don't really care what they do either way, however it would seem to me one of the biggest draws of the Bethesda open world games is the fact that the protagonists have little to define them allowing the player to customize and insert whatever character they want in the game by filling in the blanks, dropping gender choice and featuring a more defined protagonist would be abandoning one of their biggest (and only) draws, even giving the protagonist a voice seems to be a risky proposition in my eyes.

This is not to say that such a direction can't work in a Fallout game however in order to make it work you would need some good writers which judging by their previous works Bethesda simply does not have.

I thought they made it clear the future of gameplay was paying to buy mods and community made patches. That idea will be back sooner rather than later I think.

Wouldn't be surprised to see it return for Fallout 4, I am guessing it's implementation in Skyrim on steam was a test run for introducing the concept to consoles.

His voice modulator came by it honestly, growing up in the rough and tumble corners of IBM's computer labs, a thick PC accent was inevitable.

So this is why Kojima left Konami. He was casted as the protagonist for Fallout 4.

Nah, he immigrated to Sweden and changed his name to Joakim Mogren. Look, he's doing alright already!

Personally I think they should just make the protagonist Gary, and to make things simple for the voiced protagonist all the dialogue is also Gary.

Even bioware never got rid of its character creation and story/dialogue choices, and its considered the most sell-outiest of the rpg's.

In other words, calling bullshit shenanigans on this one. "Contact bethesda and tell them my username, they'll totes back me up about being an employee there, and thus have all my information on record to charge me with economic espionage and copyright infingement as well as any NDA's I might have signed. I'm totally not afraid of facing 15 years in prison and 5 million dollars in fines."

Id laugh my ass off if Bethesda show gameplay with a female character at E3

When has Bethesda ever done that?

That's actually still an opinion that a silent protagonist is better, not fact.

Silent protagonist allows for more dialogue options due to not needing a voice actor to actually read all those lines, or multiple VAs if you're having a choice of gender. Plus while it doesn't always work out, it does allow the player to insert their own tone of the delivery of the line rather than the game having a pre-determined tone.

Which is then completely ignored by the NPC you are talking to.

I wasn't crazy about the voice acting for some of the playable characters in that game, the voices did not fit my vision for my characters and I had to reroll as a female (I'm looking at you Male Jedi Counselor and Male Imperial Agent).

Nolan North strikes again!

Every time someone brings that line up I feel obligated to state that it doesn't work.

For every consumer that actually votes with their wallet there are 10 (simplified) people who will just buy it anyways.

Edit: I'm tired and horrible at explanations, but I'll try to improve that after I have slept.

Nah its ok I get what you are saying, but unfortunately that is democracy for you, while it is true that 1 person voting with their wallet won't change anything there really isn't much more we can do than that.

And the various factions that spring up over the course of the series are answers to solving that problem. The Master's Unity in F1 saw the answer in evolution and genetic ascension (the Super Mutants). Fallout 2's Enclave saw themselves as the true heirs to humanity, and found their answer in suppression and authoritarian control of the impure. The BoS saw the answer in isolation and pursuit of knowledge, eschewing external power structures. The NCR saw the answer in democracy and expansionism through trade. That society would be best served by Old World values. And Caesar's Legion saw the answer in Old World values too, just different ones. Integration and societal cohesion through totalitarian conquest. Side note, the irony of Caesar is that he formed his Empire on the basis that ideology is stronger than any one man, but what actually holds the Legion together isn't shared ideology, it's held together by their faith in him.

To add to this retardedly long waffle, the search for "answers" form the central motivations for Ulysses as well. I see him as Fallout's equivalent to The Transcendent One, giving the players one final confrontation in which the player can give the "answer" they've reached over the course of the game. It's also why I believe that West Coast Fallout's story is essentially over after the events of New Vegas and Lonesome Road.

"My message is this - the destruction that has been wrought, at the Divide - or elsewhere, if you couldn't stop me...
It can happen again. It will keep happening.
If war doesn't change, men must change, and so must their symbols. Even if it is nothing at all, know what you follow, Courier...
...just as I followed you, to the end. Whatever your symbol...
...carry it on your back, and wear it proudly when you stand at Hoover Dam."

So, there you have it.

Spoiler

For this reason, people need to let the idea of Fallout NV 2 or another Obsidian Fallout game go. It's over, done and dusted. Avellone even let you nuke the setting because there's no progressing forward without starting all over again.

Just a quick update. Fallout 4 can be pre-ordered on Steam already. Might be the game isn't too far away at all.

I'm standing by October 2015, potentially the 23 which is the day the bombs fell and a Friday like how 11/11/11 was with Skyrim. Both 3 and New Vegas came out in October.
