Of course a nuclear car would kill the oil industry.

A nuclear car is not relevant.

An electric car is fine, just pass a federal law that requires all new construction to have X amount of solar panels. Of course, the coal, natural gas and energy companies fear an energy source that doesn't need a centralized power plant they control and charge for, so they have been fighting this move for decades.

There's an easy solution to that - self driving cars.

Although oil is not the issue. Heck, Canada produces over half the oil the US uses, not the Middle East. And, as opposed from 2001 to present day, our reliance on foreign oil has drastically shifted with expanded production in the U.S. from non-conventional sources, such as oil salt refining.

So even if everyone gets electric cars and our oil dependence is near-zero, it won't stop Fox News from running fear-mongering clips about ISIS every two minutes on the hour.

Well you know the old geezer that owns Fox News? He likes to play the fear card and manipulate governments

Electric shmexic a nuclear car that can run for 10 years, bar minor maintenance.  That'd be hell cool.

And when you are done with it send it to the Middle East with a timer

So creating tiny reactors in cars and injecting just several atomic fuel to it, doesn't work?

I'm all for that, but even when the technology is ready I wonder how long it'll take to be adopted due to people's stubbornness and paranoia. And even though it would be immensely safer, one well publicized accident and people will flip their **** and try to ban it, etc

I think people give the U.S. government way too much credit.

not really. it's just a goverment of the country which is fighting for a leading role in the world. with any means in their disposal and with the techniques that have proven to be effective.

There's no infrastructure for it. No regulation, no policies, no private market support... you're talking about bringing something into existence by sheer force of will that could take decades to implement ASSUMING public support was behind it - which it is not. Americans still have a knee jerk reaction to nuclear energy just as much today as it was when Chernobyl and Six Mile Island happened yesterday. Nuclear power plants are fought kicking and screaming... and this is an energy solution that involves putting it in people's houses and neighborhoods by the tens of thousands.

It is not a quick fix for anything and ISIS will be a byline in history books by the time such a thing would even BEGIN to put a dent in overseas oil consumption.

Some these ISIS members aren't terribly bright...

Posting a selfie and giving away location... Bombs Away

However, I think the USAF should have kept quiet about finding the base through the selfie, maybe they would have been dumb enough to post another one.

Yeah, I saw that one yesterday. Human stupidity knows no ends. Kind of like the bank robber who posted a video of his robbery on Instagram.

How did you not catch the news that ISIS is recruiting religious fanatics from all over the world?

Anyhoot, we should thank them for that. Anyone willing to kill people and destroy millenia old cultural heritages out of religious zealotry is someone I wouldn't want living next to me. Guess it would be a bit egoistical to ask the Iraqi/Afghan/Iranian/Syrian, Libanese, etc. militaries to try and match their killrates with ISIS recruitment numbers so they could use ISIS as fanatic drainage so to speak ...

Many Museum are plundered by them. Many Churches and Shia Mosques are destroyed. Many historical sites are damaged by them in Syria and Iraq (from Assyrians, Greeks etc.)

Yeah. The good thing is that most of that historical stuff is circulating the black markets rather than be destroyed outright, although that's a close second.

It's sadly an all too common strategy for people who are wrong. Destroy the evidence that shows they are wrong. Turns into a real bad destructomanias when people who're very wrong get the tools and chances to do their ignorance's work.

I might have to chime in there jimmy. The technology is there but it is not ready for the streets. More test cases need to be applied.

They can't possibly more destructive and fatal than human drivers right now.

Which is true but the transition from one vehicle ecosystem to contain one with complete cars would be very difficult. I do agree it would be very safer. I remember one guy was talking about dynamic road paths, because the vehicles are running on software they can connect to a network of other vehicles in the area and establish optimal path for everyone. Cool ****.

Nuclear powered cars sounds like it could be an interesting plot point for the next Godzilla film.
