Is this kind of thing where the phrase "war is good for the economy" came from?

To a point. We're far beyond that if that's the case I would say.

War has always been good for the economy, assuming the country doesn't get affected negatively.

But for the love of god, we've been fighting over their for a decade. Throwing money and troops over their doesn't solve anything. Frankly, as bad as it sounds, maybe just having them fight among themselves. I'm done with the war frankly, just let it go for awhile and judge it maybe a few years from now. Just a break from the war would be nice.

Or at the very least let the other countries stretch their muscles in the east. Pick up the slack for once.

Why exactly Syria suffered heavy losses where/when it should actually finished the rebellion?

Its Army wasn't a weakling one TBH.

One tactic is air dropping propaganda pamphlets but I'd make one small adjustment...litter their entire ISIS state with porn. Literally cover every inch of their territory covered with porn. The problem will resolve it's self on it's own shortly thereafter.

No I'd figure it would implode their social structure while turning them all into monsters that would be trying to tear themselves and each other apart. Like what happens to the people in Event Horizon and In the Mouth of Madness.

No, in fact war is bad for the economy. This isn't the 1950's, we were spending over a billion a week during the surge. The reason that worked out in the forties and fifties is because we could mass produce everything at a low cost, and even then we had to use bonds to help pay for everything.

Bad for the payor, but not for the payee!

Agreed. Defense contractors are making bank, but they are not generating enough jobs (I mean, let's face it - even in defense contracting, all sub parts are made in China or India and then assembled here) nor enough taxable revenue to, in any way, balance out the huge deficit this has created for the country.

People point at Obama and say "the deficit has doubled since he has been in office!" Well, no joke - it doubled under Bush as well and for the same reason... we're fighting a two front war in Afghanistan and Iraq for the longest period of wartime in U.S. history. And it's crippling the national debt (because wartime effort isn't included in the budget congress approves, so each tank and soldier is a separate appropriations bill... which means every second we are at war, it is 100% debt, not tax dollars, which is paying for it).

We are at war because the war profiteers bought the right people into office when 9-11 happened. But we need to stop before the debt reaches the point of no return... NOT double down on a brand new fullscale war that will reset the clock on the entire campaign.

Also, I'm surprised - I thought this thread was deleted yesterday for some reason.

George Bush Sr is kinda responsible for the high expenses USA has right now. Every president after him put something on the expenses.

Well, Reagan didn't exactly penny pinch, either. Arguably, the only president in the last four or five decades to run a surplus instead of a deficit was Clinton.

Yeah, I flipped out when I learned Blackwater was taking in 40 plus billion dollars for a six month deployment.

Blackwater... Jesus. If you want evidence of Armageddon, it's those guys walking the face of the Earth. From their religious zealot owners to their reputation amongst conscripted troops to be the guys they send to burn villages to the ground, it's a disgrace that they are a company making money hand over bloody fist right now.

Or quit pouring millions into helping them fight their own problems. They're the ones with the most nut job religious zealots, and their citizens pay the highest price. They need to make an honest effort to stamp out extremism, and as long as we have their back it won't happen.

Indeed, then there is the cost in human lives. I can't even imagine how many civilians were killed in the urban house to house fighting.

I say we use the Texas method.

1. Draw a picture.

2. Shoot them.

Repeat as necessary.

I'd prefer the Detroit 2043 method.

I don't care for news on ISIS.

My only goal is to reclaim the true meaning of Isis.

Well, it's been a while since I did research on them.

It was founded by Erik Prince, a guy with ties to all sorts of religious fundamentalist organizations he and his family have funded. A lot whom support Blackwater as an "End Times militia" of sorts.

After the firm was convicted of killing 17 Iraqi civilians, it underwent some name changes (ultimately settling on Academi) and was bought in 2010 by unknown investors.
