Will probably collapse on itself due to overextension, if not by outside intervention. Their "five year" plan is hilarious.

I want to see them try and take on Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, And North Africa.

Let's see how much they like Insurgency when they're the ones getting IED's covering their roadways and warlords sniping their camps.

You know wjat's funny about this kind of comment?

That misery is not entirely their fault. A substantial part of conflicts base back to when imperialistic powers like France and Britain thought it would be fun to simply draw some borders where they saw it fit. Giving the Israeli their own nation by carving it out the territories of longlasting inhabitants of that same region? Right in the middle of the largest concentration of a demographic that dislikes if not outright hates those Israeli with a fanatic passion?

Brilliant idea, let's get it on, what could possibly go wrong.

Montana and Idaho used to have blood fueds against one another over their state boarder drawings and the cooper mines involved there.

You don't see them continuing a civil war and racial genocide based on it, do you? I acknowledge the past circumstance that led to their current position is rough. Yet at the same time, there comes a point where a statue of limitation for using historical events to justify current atrocities expires.

That's a good point.

But at the same time, this is bigger than Montana. WW1 did cause a lot of change in it's aftermath. I think we're still dealing it's effects. Hitler was the only one who decided to dispute these things (almost) immediately in Europe. But the Middle East has festered.

What these guys want is basically the same as Hitler.. a return to pre WW status quo. i.e. The Caliphate. And like Hitler, they don't seem to understand that they "lost" and the world is different. The only way to solve it is to send the message again.

edit: Not trying to pull a Godwin's law btw.. or making a direct comparison. Just saying that they're "poor sports".

Pfft...they took Mosul and other cities of Iraq by surprise attacks and lack of Iraq's Military Strategy. They might never take Baghdad or Damascus at all.

It is reported that several ISIS fighters tried to reach Iran's borders to do some damage. They were shot by Iran's artillery to the degree that they turned into hundred separated pieces of meat and blood!

I'm not sure Godwin would complain about comparing ISIS to the Nazis, they are pretty terrible. (though I don't see them ever being so efficient at it. Small graces.)

They won't be taking Baghdad in the near future. Hell, they're losing steam quickly too. At this point, they're made up of a lot of angry fighters with a lot of aggression but no mind for real expansion. The Caliph himself has died, what, like 3 times at this point. They're losing purpose. I'm not saying it's going to be easy, but my job (overall) is to take advantage of that lost initiative and press our own advantage while supporting the Iraqi's. They're pretty galvanized as well. They want ISIS gone, dead, destroyed, and buried.

I'm not worried. Some will keep fighting to the bitter end, other will simply drop their weapons and go home while they still can. Heck, North Korea is a more viable threat.

Won't the local militias in Africa kinda kill them first? I mean, they'll likely take ISIS members, skin them alive for s**ts and giggles and throw the remains in a trash bag and send it to a local ISIS camp.

That, and the dangerous wildlife.

Really?

Haven't US supported Saddam in Iraq-Iran War then when lost his leash bombed country, then even invaded it for "democracy" ? Side effect of democracy were civilian deaths and US sucking its oil. Check support part at Iraq side when Saddam was still "dictator" but "helpful" to US cause: (http://en.wikipedia....i/Iran–Iraq_War)

And US's casus belli for Iraq was invalid. Nuclear missiles, biological warheads etc were no where to be found and info about them were fabricated.  ( http://edition.cnn.c...1/23/bush.iraq/ )

Saddam would lauch a few one at least, no? He did at Halabja against a lesser "danger" why wouldn't he do same against an invading US army?( http://en.wikipedia....chemical_attack )

Haven't Osama was BFF with US years ago? Of course when he lost his control it was all forgotten. US helped him or at the very least similar jihadists against Soviets. (http://en.wikipedia....eration_Cyclone)

While trying to "locate" him US invaded Afghanistan because that place is literally a natural "barricade" between Russia and Central Asia. At last time i checked they were fighting against Taliban which they created, armed and helped against Soviets.

But have it your way. Act like world politics started yesterday with a brand new enemy fell from the sky, just like in Orwell's 1984.

Pretty much everyone supported Iraq against Iran during that war, because Iraq was judged by most to be the lesser of two evils.

Was it invalid? In the end, yes. No WMDs were found. But the intelligence at the time supported it.

Saddam didn't use them because he didn't have them, or at least not enough to be worth using, but even if he did, why would you be stupid enough to use WMDs against the US, when they could utterly annihilate you in the retaliation?

Bin Laden was never friends with the US. Everything I've ever seen suggests that Al-Qaeda never got American aid. Other mujahideen did, and they would end up split between the Taliban and the Northern Alliance. But they weren't created from nothing. They existed prior to that intervention, and were simply made more effective by it.

Afghanistan was invaded because the Taliban refused to hand Bin Laden over. That's the extent of it.

The only way ISIS can be effectively confronted is by a large and strong coalition of moderate nations who will commit to fighting Islamic extremism for the long haul. Consistency is absolutely essential. And all violent, extremist Islamic extremist groups need to be targeted, not just ISIS. At the same time peaceful and moderate adherents of Islam need to be respected and protected. Islam is not the enemy here, religious extremism is.

(please excuse the language, this is one of the few times I'll ever post profanity.)
Also, western nations need to end their energy dependency on the middle east. An unacceptable amount of the dollars we spend to fill our gas tanks ends up buying weapons to kill our soldiers. God, we can be so stupid.

EDIT: In response to moderator, here is a meme without profanity:

But the saudis and their lands, and adjacent countries contain most of the OIL the USA and the rest of the world need. So where else are we going to get it from?

We do need to look into alternative energy sources.   Where are the hydrogen cars? Why can't we have nuclear cars and vehicles?

Shifting largely to alternative energy sources is one of the most effective national security strategy moves we could make. We are heading in this direction, but way too slowly.

Of course a nuclear car would kill the oil industry.

Human drivers.

There's an easy solution to that - self driving cars.

Although oil is not the issue. Heck, Canada produces over half the oil the US uses, not the Middle East. And, as opposed from 2001 to present day, our reliance on foreign oil has drastically shifted with expanded production in the U.S. from non-conventional sources, such as oil salt refining.

So even if everyone gets electric cars and our oil dependence is near-zero, it won't stop Fox News from running fear-mongering clips about ISIS every two minutes on the hour.
