Really?
Haven't US supported Saddam in Iraq-Iran War then when lost his leash bombed country, then even invaded it for "democracy" ? Side effect of democracy were civilian deaths and US sucking its oil. Check support part at Iraq side when Saddam was still "dictator" but "helpful" to US cause: (http://en.wikipedia....i/Iran–Iraq_War)
And US's casus belli for Iraq was invalid. Nuclear missiles, biological warheads etc were no where to be found and info about them were fabricated. ( http://edition.cnn.c...1/23/bush.iraq/ )
Saddam would lauch a few one at least, no? He did at Halabja against a lesser "danger" why wouldn't he do same against an invading US army?( http://en.wikipedia....chemical_attack )
Haven't Osama was BFF with US years ago? Of course when he lost his control it was all forgotten. US helped him or at the very least similar jihadists against Soviets. (http://en.wikipedia....eration_Cyclone)
While trying to "locate" him US invaded Afghanistan because that place is literally a natural "barricade" between Russia and Central Asia. At last time i checked they were fighting against Taliban which they created, armed and helped against Soviets.
But have it your way. Act like world politics started yesterday with a brand new enemy fell from the sky, just like in Orwell's 1984.
Pretty much everyone supported Iraq against Iran during that war, because Iraq was judged by most to be the lesser of two evils.
Was it invalid? In the end, yes. No WMDs were found. But the intelligence at the time supported it.
Saddam didn't use them because he didn't have them, or at least not enough to be worth using, but even if he did, why would you be stupid enough to use WMDs against the US, when they could utterly annihilate you in the retaliation?
Bin Laden was never friends with the US. Everything I've ever seen suggests that Al-Qaeda never got American aid. Other mujahideen did, and they would end up split between the Taliban and the Northern Alliance. But they weren't created from nothing. They existed prior to that intervention, and were simply made more effective by it.
Afghanistan was invaded because the Taliban refused to hand Bin Laden over. That's the extent of it.
