Hello there,

I just checked back after only having recreated my trilogy playthrough for the release of DAI, and it's pretty much like leaving your dog alone for the afternoon; who in turn decided to have an anxiety attack.

My only questions are:

1) Is there a way to burn the thing to the ground and get one single, clean World State of ONLY my definite three characters? A reset function of any kind?

2) If not, is the Keep going to be kept (ha) as a permanent feature rather than savegame imports for a fourth game? As in, it would still be advised to spend a weekend sorting through that awful mess and all 3,287,252 abandonend test tube characters for each game individually by hand, which is so much fun if you have the habit of creating similar looking characters with the same class & name?

I only keep one character per game, all others are just discarded variants right after the creation screen - yet they're only distinguishable by descriptions such as "playthrough 9" etc. What is a playthrough really?

Distressed greetings from my OCD,

and huge thanks in advance from myself,

Dieb

As much as I adore the Keep, I feel your pain.  I sat down a few days ago to get my keep cleaned up once and for all, and after a few hours, I finally figured out how to determine which "playthroughs" are real, how to get rid of the throwaways, and how to get rid of the extra "Inquisitors" left over from all my character customization experiments.  I can't swear that what I found was the best method, but I wrote it all down:

http://forum.bioware...-a-messy-guide/

- My understanding is that a "playthrough" is a non-editable record of choices that you made in-game.  The Keep will create a new "playthrough" record every time you create a new character in DA:I, even if you don't complete character creation.  The record is automatically updated as you play.

- An "editable world state" is an editable record of choices that you can import into DA:I or future games.  (When you edit stuff in the tapestry, you're editing an "editable world state".)  It's possible to copy "playthroughs" into the "editable world state" category so that you can make tweaks (like if you're prepping to import a game to DA4 someday and want to fix something), but you can't turn an editable world state back into a playthrough (which makes sense, since playthroughs are meant to record actual in-game choices: if you change your LI in a playthrough, it implies that your LI ought to change in-game as well, and that would be a mess).

- I'm still not entirely clear on the definition of a "hero".  It looks like every time a new "playthrough" is created by creating a new character in DA:I, a new "hero" is also created.  If you go into the tapestry and click on the Inquisitor tile, you're presented with a bunch of possible Inquisitors to choose: these are "heroes".

EDIT: Oh, right, and your 2nd question: YES, Bioware has stated that the Keep is going to be used for future DA games, though I imagine it will undergo tweaking.  For all its difficulties, it solves the problem of importing saves cross-platform, and it allows you to create world states for your current game without playing through the old games.  WOO HOO!

Thank you very much! You have been most helpful.

As long as we get an option to completely make up a trilogy playthrough prior to starting DA4, I'm golden. Otherwise it seems all my data is lost.

Bonus question if you had the time: If I delete everything I possibly can by hand, and then do anything, shouldn't it then be more or less forced to re-synch everything properly? Basically like formatting ones harddrive?

As long as they don't ditch the Keep entirely (which I seriously, SERIOUSLY doubt given their public statements), yeah, you can create a trilogy from scratch.  In fact, you should be able to do that right now just for fun (though I wouldn't be surprised if a few of the Inquisition tiles get changed prior to DA4).

I honestly have no idea if you can re-synch your data like that, and I'm too scared of losing my stuff to try :)  If you try it and it doesn't work--if you lose everything--it still isn't the end of the world, though, since you can always manually recreate your choices in a new editable world state.  The only thing that's a little tricky about doing it from scratch is that some of the Inquisition tiles are a bit ambiguous: for example, the Keep doesn't record each of the individual sit-in judgments you make, and instead just classifies your general behavior as "mostly merciful", "mostly recruiting", etc; I can recall all of my individual judgments, but I couldn't guess which category I fell into overall, so I'd have a hard time populating that tile just from memory.

If you delete all the heroes that you ditched during character creation and all your playthrough states then yes it will re-synch to just show your current playthrough. Although I would recommend not deleting the inquisitor and the playthrough state that you want.

A hero is just your character from the game. It's the generic term used.
