There's nothing wrong with taking advantage of good luck.  If there's a way to get the most possible value out of something, I'm all over it.  But hanging around reloading saves to see if this time the dragon tooth works is so tedious, they decided that even if you wanted to reload from now until doomsday, you weren't going to be able to turn 40 into 100.  Sometimes, it's just not your day.

I've had pretty good luck with the first dragon's tooth, but I save dragons as a treat and usually have enough teeth to make myself dentures by the time I get around to doing them at all.  With 10 or more to choose from, I really don't worry too much about min/maxing, because there's still so much other stuff to do.

I can, however understand the sense of being cheated that comes from hoping that this time it's going to work, and it doesn't.  Being able to salvage something from it will probably make it easier, but going out looking for angst from Bonnie isn't a good idea for me, and you might not like to go looking for trouble either if it makes you feel like you're being punished for other people being jerks.  I find it less stressful to just try it once, and if it doesn't work sell it.  There's enough stress already.  If it bothers you, you'll never even notice if you choose to ignore it.

Now I want to see dragon tooth dentures. Iron Bull would love them.

As I said, I never bother with the %chance of masterwork stuff. A 10% bonus to the stats is nice, but it isn't going to change the game for me, and there's usually something I'd rather put in that masterwork slot anyway, like "gain guard on hit" or "%chance of Hidden Blades".

That has to be one of the best masterwork abilities in the game. It really makes a difference on harder difficulties.

Think Terry Pratchett's trolls and "tooth-shaped gem."  You're going to kick yourself.  I don't know if it's an easter egg, but it's worth a laugh.  And 2H Bull with MW plush velvet (is it really Faustian, or am I doing another association thing?) is the only way to fly with him, IMO.

The crafting success determination (success or failure) being set when you acquire the tooth or other masterwork material is actually nice. What I mean is, if you can just save and reload until you get a successful craft, that's a false chance because if you're determined to make it work, the chance of succeeding is 100%, it might just take a few tries. This way you can't really cheat the system, and I like that.

It's a terrible design choice and these items are completely useless. Go for Fade-Touched materials, they are actually worth it.

You sound like a child crying because they didn't get the biggest slice of cake. Sometimes 40% actually means 40% instead of 100% that might take a few reloads. Yes it's disappointing when you don't have a successful craft, but there's no point in there being a % chance of success if you can just save and reload until you get it to work.
