What have you learned from these games?

Here are some examples of what I've learned:

  • If I want to learn more about something I should just kill it. The knowledge will then automatically come to me.
  • If I want to accomplish something, I can only have a maximum of three people help me.
  • We need to move underground, away from all the stupid people.
  • It's okay to get addicted to dangerous substances if it's for a highly debatable good cause.
  • Short people can't dream.

EDIT: If you want to say bad things about any of the games or about BioWare, don't do it here.

EDIT AGAIN: DON'T LEAVE YOUR NEGATIVE COMMENTS ABOUT THE GAME OR BioWare HERE!!

But really, DA teaches me nothing. Other than that everything underground is bad, France is crazy, and that people think its justice to punish innocent people who were tricked into things.

Having a PC's faith/religion (or lack of) be a big part of the character (without needing to be a Priest, Cleric, or Paladin) and having opportunities to show it throughout the story is a great way to increase immersion.

I enjoyed playing a Dalish Elf, Andrastian Human/Qunari, and indifferent dwarf in Inquisition.

That if you're going to win people's sympathies, you can't be merely flawed, but a complete and total *******.

Seriously, I'm not kidding. Eamon makes the mistake of marrying the wrong woman, and is considered the unholy union of Rimmer Dall, Roose Bolton and Abaddon the Despoiler as a result, while Anora betrays the people who rescued her, leading them to be sent to a nightmarish dungeon to be tortured to death, and no one bats an eye.

Wynne dares to suggest you might wish to prioritize stopping an endless army of flesh-eating subterreanian monsters over your sex life, and is immediately condemned as a villain, yet Vivienne's self-proclaimed desire to restore a system of oppression that's led thousands of people to be tortured, raped, lobotomized and executed over the centuries (while having no intention of applying the same standards to herself, of course) is met with gushing about how sassy she is.

Merrill dabbles in blood magic in hopes of arresting her people's slide towards cultural extinction, all the while remaining one of the most compassionate and selfless people around, but is considered a moron because her mentor made the poor choice to let herself be possessed out of fear. Solas, meanwhile, deliberately and knowingly gives an ancient elven superweapon to one of the most evil entities in existence before viciously condemning everyone else for making choices he doesn't personally approve of, and yet is excused of all culpability.

Blackwall lies about his past while trying to become a better person, and up comes the cry about how he's a criminal rapist scumbag, yet Anders makes the person he loves into an unwitting accessory to an act of terrorism that kills numerous civiilians and kick-starts a world war, and out come the excuses about how a bunch of old nuns consituted an existential threat, or how it was gonna happen anyways.

The Grey Wardens have been saving the world for a thousand years, including cancelling the apocalypse on five seperate occasions, but are immediately vilified because a demon got into their heads and manipulated them, while the Orlesian nobility, who have been murdering each other over courtly favour and petty political squabbles since their inception (along with treating the lower classes like their personal playthings), yet everyone shrugs that off like it's nothing.

That's what this franchise and fandom have taught me; small mistakes, poor choices and differences of opinion are to be instantly and utterly condemned, while huge mistakes and genuine evil can easily be defended and forgiven.

I find most of these kind of funny because I never felt this way and never saw it presented in game

1)I adore Eamon and I respect him. Not completely fond of his wife, but that's basically first impressions. Anora, however, I wanted to throw to the darkspawn considering what she did.

2) I like Wynne too, she's funny, smart, and just great to have around. Yeah, poking her nose in was annoying, but friends DO that. Vivienne I don't take with me very much, or talk to very much. I only recruit her because she's vaguely useful with the KE heal. Other than that I avoid her. generally speaking.

3) I'm just going to go straight to Solas, because I don't want to get into a blood magic debate,  and say, you have seen people around here saying they want to find Solas and when they find out try him for war crimes? I certainly have. I haven't given him a pass, personally. I want to find more of the story before making any judgement. I do like Merrill I just want to smack her upside the head some times.

4) Rapist? That's an accusation I haven't heard thrown against Blackwall. I let him redeem himself, but I've always been a sucker for a redemption story. All I can say on Anders' behalf is by act 3 he was insane. He was paranoid and obsessive and his whole worldview had been warped. It doesn't make it right or excusable, but it does make it understandable.

5) This last one is a matter of standards and perception. Grey Wardens are heroes, they've dedicated their lives to fighting evil, and no one wants to believe their heroes can be corrupted. Politicians, however, and especially Orlesian nobles, are expected to be corrupt backstabbing etc, because they've been doing it for centuries and no one thinks it's ever going to change. Why bat and eyelash at people who've acted like bastards forever act like bastards? When heroes make mistakes, however, people love to tear them down. Look at the real world. Happens all the time.

I don't blame Anders. I blame Vengeance. If you look up his rivalmance path on youtube, it becomes quite clear that Anders is not the one responsible. He can't stop Vengeance. I mean, I suppose he could kill himself, but... come on.
