Gender is not determined by what is between your legs. Bigotry will not change the fact that Krem is male.

That poster is on a crusade. They had the same post in their signature, but have since removed it. Just ignore them, it's not worth the trouble. Also, cool name :P

DA has taught me that you can throw a breakable jar full of bees into a crowd and they'll only attack the people you want them to.

Yeah, I had a look at their other posts after I replied to see if it was just them being uneducated on the subject or not, and now I need a shower. What a lovely start to the day, makes the essay I have to finish so inviting in contrast.

Thank you :) I was pretty surprised it was free here, especially given how late I was to the party.

And thanks for the heads up  ^_^

That no matter what I do my decisions don't matter because making them matter would require effort.

DA has taught me that earth shattering decisions doesn't have consequences.

So, we're ignoring the people incapable of reading either the first post or the dozen other people who've already beaten the same horse to death, yes? Good.

Back on topic:

  • that you can't always tell someone's prejudices until you're the one on their receiving end.
(see: cassandra's response to a dalish following the elven gods that their religion should expand to include hers... but gods forbid hers embrace yours in return or even just not erase any piece of gospel mentioning elves... i really, really wanted an option to call her out on that bull)

  • that while strange women lying around in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government, picking up a runaway bouncy ball on a midnight trip to the loo is.

  • that putting a jacket over your pjs is perfectly acceptable wear for saving the world. (Though, come to think of it, Arthur Dent might have taught me that first.)

Something I WANT Dragon Age to teach me:

If you can cure STD's with magic (Isabela and Anders in DA2) and dwarves resist magic, does dwarf-clap resist being cured?

Hello, I'm Shechinah. I sometimes exposits random things about the world and what's on and inside it.

What is highlighted is a fact, yes, as male members of certain species are capable of reproductive birth without the need of the sequential sex change that is found in other species. The fact that they are capale of giving birth does not erase their gender. There are also species that change gender because they need to fufill a certain role or have certain attributes like being the strongest and fiercest that triggers this.

What I'm saying is nature sees preconceptions and perceptions of gender and laughs. What I'm also saying is that different cultures have different perceptions of gender and that some of these culture dates way, way back.

Did you know that flatworms have both male and female genitalia and that when they mate, they duel by using their male genitalia to parry and the one who wins is the one who first penetrates the flesh of the other? Did you also know scientists have dubbed this type of dueling "penis fencing"? It is relevent because it ties into the gender talk, I swear!

While I think that talk about gender and sex in animals and humans is fascinating, I'm preeeetty disappointed this thread isn't just people making funny DA observations. It had such potential!

And still has it, if we act to preserve it.

From DA I learned that no matter how much evidence is in favor of a character betraying me, giving them the benefit of doubt works almost every time.

From DA I learned that while silence is golden, I'll shove platinum at my characters if they keep bickering with such clever dialogue.

From DA I learned that video games can both prosper and display a number of complex and interesting viewpoints! :D

From DA I learned that gun control laws and homosexuality can bleed into each other interestingly.

From DA I learned that I'd totally try to hide or destroy a (potentially) genuine artifact if it supported a religion I believed did a lot of harm, despite the potential benefits of the artifact. You learn something new every day, I suppose.

From DA I learned that long hair is really hard to program without having it clip into things, and that I still really wish that they made it, or at least more potential hairstyles.

From DA I learned how long it takes for riding the Bull jokes to get old. (The answer is more than I've seen right now)

From DA I learned that I am highly susceptible to flattery.

From DA I learned that the Easy way is the best way.

From DA I learned that there are pros and cons to making all the LIs pansexual, rather than only pros.

The point was the poster was refuting comments that males can't get pregnant. And male is the operative word, which can be any species, rather than man.

while Anora betrays the people who rescued her, leading them to be sent to a nightmarish dungeon to be tortured to death, and no one bats an eye.

there are times where the narrative tries to argue that what you did was right, when it was wrong. Case in point, Anora and the "betrayal" that happens -- whether it's in Howe's Estate or at the Landsmeet. If at the former, then it's because the Warden was a dolt who did precisely what Anora asked us not to do.

Yet the companions end up going "HOW DARE SHE BETRAY US". This coming from Leliana who was invested in Orlesian politics and should know that we were the idiots in this scenario, or Zevran who was assigned to kill political people. Both of them should know that we did the exact thing Anora wanted to not have happen and put her in a dangerous situation..

This is what I mean. Our choices are deemed prim and proper by the narrative, when they're not, and thus the players believe they were right because they fail to see things. Their power fantasy ends up being lofted to higher heights.

Black women are manipulative bitches?

I should not have laughed at this comment, but I did. I have to say that with Vivienne being our first black female companion in the franchise, I was both surprised and upset by their decision not have her romanceable (no matter what her personality type was meant to be)? Disappointing!
