I'm pretty sure Dalish's "bow" is just a staff, guys. It even has an "aiming crystal" on top of it. Might be a curvy staff to keep up the ruse, but a bow needs to fire arrows to be a bow.

Oh, yeah, that's definitely a bow, but I don't see why Andruil couldn't shape magic into arrows.

There is one thing I don't understand. Andruil was a mage like all Evanuris, right? So how did she hunt? Not with a bow, that's for sure.

Remember, Dalish had a bow. ;)

We don't really know enough about how the Well of Sorrows works exactly to conclude whether Solas, Morrigan or anyone can control an Inquisitor who drank out of it.

We also don't know enough about what Solas did to acquire power from Mythal. People assume that he got something other than a power up - that he acquired somewhat of her essence. Maybe all he did was just recharge his own batteries.

Exactly. Bioware could decide either way about him having the power to control the Inquisitor and both would be equally plausible.

Well, after years of hating on the Dalish... I decided to make a new elf Inquisitor and give it a real shot and explore the glories of being an elf.

Why do you hate the Dalish?(I'm going to be sorry for asking ?:P)

Because Medhia hates freedom and elven glory.

Kudos to you. I could never bring myself to do an elf. Way way too thin for my tastes. I like my men to actually have some meat on their bones.

@Reznore57:

1)  As a casual student of aboriginal cultures, I find the Dalish to be the absolutely worst portrayal of those types of peoples.  As if someone took modern hipsters and put furs on them.  To me, they're every modern faux nature loving eco-warrior who glamps and collects baubles in their McMansions to show how "connected with the earth they are".

2)  They're so frigg'n unfriendly.  Get the sticks out of your collective arses already Dalish.  "Why are you here, should I shoot you with arrows. A shemlen called me a knife ear once... I hate all shemlen ARGHGHG!"  Lay off the Hala milk buddy.

3)  The future, is THAT way.  I cannot respect anyone so obsessed with past glory.  It's the most backward thinking (literally) and coupled with their angst at being oppressed vagrants who refuse to abandon a system they made up and has nothing to do with their ancient homeland... yeah, I cannot get behind that.

Also... it didn't take Solas prove the Dalish were wrong.  The entire mythology is centered around a civilization with a capital city that is sunk beneath the earth.  Of COURSE the original elves weren't douchy gypsies who tooled around in goofy wagons driven by reindeer.  Why was anyone surprised at this?

EDIT:

4) And obviously... because I hate freedom and elven glory.

-----

But, I won't continue on with this - there's plenty of other threads for me to spread my Dalish hate on.

My current Dalish appreciates his culture, but admires human civilization more (more buildings, less wet clothing - more soft beds, less furs on the ground)... he has a wanderlust and was an "extra" mage in the clan... so, for those reasons he was sent out to the Conclave.

Yeah, Sera described it that way too. "If you have to dig it up so you can wear it, that's just weird".

But thing is, the Dalish actually believe in the elven gods, so it isn't just a pretend game. They are living it, as much as current circumstances allow it.

@Qun00:  Living what exactly though?  I mean it when I say that post was the only negative one I'm posting in this thread.

But there's no "truth" behind what the Dalish are doing.  The Evanuris ruled an empire.  That empire slaughtered dwarves and killed Titans and harvested their blood.  That empire kept elves as slaves.

In the beginning... as a Dalish - Solas says he has "Encounters" with Dalish clans.  He says he was trying to teach them, but they attacked him.  This is exactly what I'm talking about.  Solas was probably trying to tell them that they're so very, deeply, obviously wrong - and they didn't want to hear it.

If the Dalish just accepted that their current lifestyle is actually new for them... that they like it, that it puts them in touch with nature... that they worship their gods in their own way.. and gave up being so bloody angry about something these Dalish didn't even lose.  I think I could get behind that.

NOTE:  While I don't particularly like Halla... I really love the image of the Halla on the card at the beginning of the Dalish character creation.  Part deer, part llama (shaggy wool)... I like that, it's more earthy than the strange ivory unicorn-ish reindeer.

It might have been helpful had Solas brought proof, no? Because the Dalish that we saw were totally cool with embarrassing revelations, namely that Red Crossing wasn't completely the fault of humans.

Living a false, idealized version of what they believed the Evanuris were and what their people used to be like, when the truth is that the Evanuris could have given Tevinter a run for their money.

.

In their defense though, what proof could Solas really give to make them listen, short of telling them that he himself was the Dread Wolf. He lacks vallaslin, so they probably just judged him to be a bat-poo crazy city elf.

Yeah and Solas doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who would be good at handling a sensitive issue.

He tends to run his mouth and let slip he thinks anyone who doesn't think like him is closed minded or a moron.

I remember there was some kind of meme with Solas lecturing the Dalish floating around when DAI was released  , it was quite funny.

This is kind of easy actually.  He could have spoken to Keepers about ancient magic, ancient lore, shown them temples and ruins and explained what they meant...

Shown them his orb... had elves like Felassan speak to them more... show them how to use the Fade measuring orbs... the Dalish go gaga over ancient elf stuff.

It seemed clear that the Keepers knew who Flemeth "really" was.

How Solas could not have learned about Flemeth... is beyond me.  Either there's a LOT of Dalish clans... or he really didn't visit that many.

NOTE:  I do see your point.  I think both sides fail at being easy to get along with.

That's not the point. I was saying that it can't be compared to modern people dressing up as their ancestors 'cause they find it cool.

It is honest, genuine.

Hold up. We only have any proof that Marethari might have known who Flemeth was, NOT any other Keepers, as of yet.
And as to the orb, you mean the Orb that Corypheus has? lol

@Hellion Rex:  Okay, point taken... maybe only Marethari knew.  But... why wouldn't she have told other Dalish clans?

And yes, he gave the Venatori a map to the orb...why not have the Dalish get it instead?

My only point, which others have echoed, is that it's hard to have a dialogue when one half of the party is unwilling to listen. I think Keepers like Marethari, who have seen a small glimmer of truth, are few and far between.

He might have simply given up trying to show them the truth and chose to jumpstart his plan.

As to Marethari, who would have honestly listened? Not many, I would argue. And on top of that, Marethari might have only been shown/seen the fact that Flemeth was Mythal's vessel, nothing more. We don't know if she knows the entire truth.

I would argue it's easier for the Dalish to believe the lie than accept the truth that their culture, based on a false idealized vision of the Evanuris, is an utter sham and so terribly wrong.

Edit: That first reply might have come off a little harshly, and so I apologize.

Clan Virnehn is the worst.

I was wondering if the worst wouldn't be finding out about the Evanuris but the fact that current elves aren't "true" elves.
I remember Merrill saying the Dalish believed when they are true elves again their Gods will come back.

The Dalish tried to rebuild a culture , but it was never about that.

It's a bit sad.

@Reznore57: It would be less sad if they (Dalish) didn't consider themselves true elves and the city elves to be their lessers.

It's like a weird genetic memory that elves are predisposed to their "true elf" prejudice.
