Soooo

Oh hey:

(Apparently Chris Wynn replies to random tweets that contain "Mass Effect"? That's cool.)

user

They need to announce another mass effect asap

@user we already have, the next Mass Effect is currently under development.

user

@The1Wynn prequel or sequel?

@user not a prequel, not necessarily a sequel either.

Now before ya'll jump into the it's an "ALTERNATE SIDEQUEL UNIVERSE" it's not. I've read an article before Bioware stating that Quote: We do not want the gamers or fans to see or brand the next game as a sidequel or an alternate universe, it is a Mass Effect game [this is highly subjective].

We all knew that 3 was done... finished and the evidence is clear when the finale was shoved in our faces. Bioware wanted to end it as fast as they could and they did stated earlier ME should have ended with 3. Now they are Restarting the franchise a new. This means we either start in Andromeda or Milkyway or another galaxy far far away and all the past things we did are basically concluded. No imports, no old characters... start from scratch.

The formula Bioware is going for now is the familiar game mechanics i.e. romance, weapons, characters, space and all the other things we know just without Shepard and the Reapers and all other characters we knew [This is what Mass Effect is according to Bioware]. They are basically re-inventing or recycling every assets they have with added new species into the scene. This is a bold step for them since the usual tradition of Bioware is continuity though one can argue they have sufficient knowledge and "skill" to know what they are doing and besides it's their game

It's a new game after all! so what do you guys feel? are you looking forward to it? is it a cheap knock off? mediocre? something convoluted? something spectacular and fresh? money grab? innovative? what do you guys think? comment below!

I think most people are resigned to the fact that ME4 will reboot the series, whether BW states that officially or not.

This is good, as long as there is overall continuity in the world, i.e. the Reaper war happened, it's over, and now here's something else, elsewhere. Nothing else needs to be acknowledged and having zero contact with the previous characters and events gives them all the freedom they need, without stepping on anyone's toes.

The so-called Ark Theory seems to accomplish this quite well. Frankly, I didn't think it was possible.

Now it just has to be good, with well developed characters that draw your attachment and preferably without "art" and those who signed off on it.

That's like the third thread you make about your "restart theory". Stop.

I believe it is far from conclusive but if it is I'm highly sceptical. I'll buy it and play it, but I can't promise I'll like it...

That's a sequel then

@GalacticWolf come on man join the discussion! would be great to hear your opinion. Besides this one is different... this one is about actually "buying the game" and this time it's exclusive to "restart" not reboot, not alternate, not anything else.

Whatever.

I intensely dislike reboots or anything that breaks or disregards continuity and lore. So whatever you call something that explicitly doesn't do that here, while also not trampling over people's choices, that is what I'd vote for.

Depends on what you personally need to see something as a sequel. If it's just the placement within the timeline after the previous game/movie/novel, then yeah still a sequel. But if it's a different story, characters etc, then it's more a spin-off that takes place after the previous entry.

problem is.... Bioware does not want to call it as a spin off... they want it to be called as a "Mass Effect" of it's own. besides if it takes place after the previous entry wouldn't that be acknowledging the events of the previous entry consequently indicating a "different perspective or as what you call it a spinoff"? hmmmm I wonder... it could be very well be a spin off no matter how Bioware sugarcoats it

Now that a prequel or direct sequel has been ruled out, whatever Bioware does with the next ME game will be fine with me.  For a story dealing with a single game, I'm down with it being an interquel or an indirect sequel, especially if the Ark Theory is true.  For a more long-term, sequential series of games, I'm leaning towards what everyone is calling a reboot.

I talked about this several times before, How the creative mass effect team changes led to the ending of Mass Effect 3 and then to a stalemate. I've predicted that it will be a soft reboot months before the leak.

Restart or reboot, I don't care -- I want a new ME game!  However, I believe N:ME will take place in the current ME universe sometime during or after the events of ME3

My problem with a 'reboot' is this: a reboot is undoubtedly gonna have similarities: like squad mates that fill in same kind of niche as previous ones: not only in combat style but also in personality, like: 'the vanilla guy', 'the hot girl', 'the krogan'. I know almost without a doubt that whatever the new krogan is gonna be, I'm gonna wish it was Grunt instead. A salarian? I can't see how they could possibly make a salarian that I like better than Mordin.

It may not be true in every instance: after all I like James better than Jacob and Miranda better than Ashley, but on the other hand personally I found Traynor to be a massive downgrade from Kelly.

My fear is that the new squad for the most part is gonna feel like a downgrade from the old ones, and that I'm gonna think of everyone as: 'I wish he was Grunt', 'I wish he was Mordin', 'I wish she was Miranda and Kasumi... like... both of them...'

They haven't stated this either.

It's what I'm hoping they'll do.   It's what, IMO, they need to do.  It's what the game needs.

But nowhere have they stated this.

If you can find a link, please -- link it.  The closest I believe was that someone on twitter said that this would be the perfect place to jump into the series.

As long as it brings along characters that I care about and that Mass Effect "feel" I'm ready for whatever.

Canon is overrated.

They did intended and stated ME to end with 3 originally. But you know $$$$

However, we do need a new Mass Effect... would love to see some fresh things about it

Yeah I can see that happening quite often too. Tonymac even stated this before that no matter how many times they re-build / re-design everything the first 3 games will always be the foundation of this "new" game

I can't tell if it's a "restart" or not. That would be interesting though.

But not a restart in Andromeda. Wtf is the point of a restart there..

That's a lot of speculation there OP just from one vague tweet. "Not necessarily a sequel" could mean many things. At least it's becoming obvious it's not a prequel. Maybe now we're done with dumb-ass theories about the game being set during the Skyllian Blitz or First Contact War.

I will pre-order it no matter what as soon as I can (pretty sure I even take vacation days to play right away). So far we still don't know anything really, and I don't like speculating too much, I will judge the game once it's out. Could be great, could be bad, but I won't spend my time thinking about what might be, in the end we get what we get, and I prefer facts over rumours :D

As for some concerns about characters I read here, BW has shown (me personally) in the past they can always write new characters that I like (DAI had so many awesome additions, and I really liked James and Sam in ME3 as well), so I have faith that, while I'm sure I won't like everyone (there's always someone not to like :P), there will be some I will love, and maybe even more than already existing characters, and that's the exciting part for me.

Isnt it more a spin-off you want to get? What most people say about "reboot" sounds to me more like a spin-off. Cause reboot is for me what happens in Star Trek movie 2009. Taking some time in the universe and take the same history and characters but than develop the story in a much different way. Spin-off is other characters, other focus in story and sometimes also other time/place. Can be close to a sequel but also far away from it.

Anyway. I will not pre-order a game from any company until I know a lot more of the game than we do now about ME. To do now a pre-order is in my opinion not suitable for a capitalistic market. Companies are NEVER loyal to anything... only money. Why should I than be loyal to whatever bigger company? Maybe when I have personal relationships... MAYBE... than I would be more loyal, but never blind. But to a company I have no relationship only that I like some of their products?

This "fan"ism is a rather strange thing. Of course companies try to let customers become "fans", cause it helps making money. But to do so as a customer? Do I really need to "dock" emotionally at an anonym big company?
