Last night after I posted this I did a clean install of my video driver (196.34) and sound driver. I used Guru3d.com cleandisk utility to wipe all of the video drivers, physicX and sound drivers before reinstalling....still did not work....
I did however try my copy on a second computer that has Win 7 32-bit premium with only 2GB of memory and an Quadro FX3500 Nvidia card (based on the 7900 nvidia chip)
I got a warning that my hardware was not compatible, but the game did start and I got to the log in screen, I did not go beyond that because I was pressed for time.
I will try and disable one of my optical drives tonight and reinstall and see if that works, if that does not I may remove some memory....I can not imagine having to much memory having an issue but I will try....
Post more later...

For those of you who reinstalled and still had issues did you delete the folder from MyDocuments?
As a side note Dragon Age still doesn't work. But I'm trying to see if reinstalling works for that too.

I press Play on the Launcher and I get a white box with 'Mass Effect 2 (Not Responding)' and that's it. Was looking forward to this game for months. Very disappointed!

What is the size of your ME2 Dirctory.. should be ~11+Gb
If it's closer to 9 you are missing a file from the 2nd DVD

Do you have two DVD drives? If so try to install it with Disk 1 in one drive and disk 2 in the second drive so it does not ask for the second disk.
Let us know if that works

I think it is the install processes as well....For what ever STUPID reason when it looks for the second CD and it has to go to the second optical drive it bombs out.....I think the way ButtOn_man installed may be a work around...or disconnect the second optical drive.....or I will do what Fedaykin did tonight as well...if that does not work I may demand a refund which will be sad because I was looking forward to this game as well.......I agree though....how in the hell did this past QA for the install....I am sure that more the 50% of the people that have computers have multiple optical drives in them.....
I have 2 optical drives, I did find it odd it spit out DA:O and said feed me ME2 Disk 2... But it did miss that english file which I replaced and it worked.
Also check to make sure you are not running any stupid codec packs... those need to be removed if you have choppy audio video (with an intel proc) with AMD yeah not even going there...

Is there a way to get a "full hardware list"? I'm not all that PC literate...

If you do Start Run and dun DXDiag it will give you a list of all your stuff.....or you can look at the Mass Effect 2 configuration utility and look at the system tab and read off what you have.
Hopefully we will get you running...

It does help, it looks like you may have an older Nvidia driver is 8.17.11.9621 which = 196.34 which is Nvidia's latest beta driver, your is showing 6.0.6002.18005 I would start by updating that driver.... here is the link to get the latest one http://www.nvidia.co...aspx?lang=en-us you may want to stick with 196.21 which the latest official driver
keep us posted

I think you are having a different issue.... I have seen posts about the issue you are describing but it does not seem to be the same one we are having here, not being able to start the game at all...
