I spoke to soon... Got into game went to load it and sound was crackling during the load screen and stayed stuck at the load screen.

If you're having problems installing, you can often just copy the contents of the dvd's, or multiple cd's etc. to a folder and run install/setup from there.(change to make explorer show hidden files first, just to be safe.) That usually solves install problems. The best is of course to make images and install from those.
However it might not work to install from a folder in all cases depending on the installer, sometimes theres copy protection in the installer, or a label check.
I haven't checked into details how it installs, but download the latest winrar, perhaps theres an old rar library installed that interferes with the installer so it doesn't unpack the files correctly. Other than that you can probably use winrar to manually extract the files.

Oh yeah I forgot also try cleaning out temp files, and use ccleaner. http://www.ccleaner.com/

@Sec-G: corrupt profile, save or game configuration causing it to crash perhaps?

I found the solution to this problem!

I have experienced all written in this topic.. Installed it with both discs in the DVD readers, but nothing.. still black screen when launching the game.

So I have been reading around a bit.. It seems that most of these problems consist on Windows 7 and Vista system.

Personally, I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit version, and guess what, so do the 60% of the other people who got this problem!

Anyways, enough chit chat, time for the solution.



These steps are for PC's where Mass Effect 2 has been completely uninstalled, and the map in \\My Documents\\BioWare\\ got deleted.. So your PC must be 100%, Mass Effect 2 and BioWare ME2 In your "My Documents", clean.

Step 1: Update your videocard (you should check every month for updates)

After you updated, do a reboot.

Step 2: Download the following two DirectX items:

DirectX SDK - (February 2010)

DirectX Redist (February 2010)

They can both be found at:

(In order to find these 2 files easy, sort on date starting with the latest releases.)

MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL THEM IN THE FOLLOWING SEQUENCE:

DirectX SDK - (February 2010)

and then

DirectX Redist (February 2010)



Step 3: Do a reboot after installing both.

Step 4: Install Mass Effect 2 to wherever you like.

Step 5: Do another reboot.

Step 6: Play the game! =D

very very frustrated, downloaded the digital bundle =Mass Effect & Mass Effect 2=, tried mass effect first, and didn't work, tried uninstall then reinstall, still didn't work, all drivers are updated, so I thought maybe a glitch, but I had high hopes for #2, started off great, meaning it was going through the steps o.e. online registration and stuff, but same as the first when it came to the splash screen to press play, it black screened like it wanted to go, but then that damn message.............. argh please tell me im still not alone!
