I arrived at my conclusion by piecing together different sources. BioWare stated that it is not a prequel or a sequel, nor would Shepard be the protagonist. Then after watching the trailer a few times, I took out pieces of what has been confirmed such as the N7 logo. And researched a few things. Such as when the N7 program began. Also, spin-offs can move forward in the story past what is already established.
