Still playing because of my Dorian addiction.
How are you still playing?

I really wish I could push myself to finish it, I would probably feel a lot better about the situation if I could.
I'm happy for those who have enjoyed themselves playing DAI, but I am confused as to how anyone who has played and loved DAO and DA2, can like DAI. It just doesn't seem to compute. ![]()

As time and game engines change, games change as well. DA:I is not DA:O reborn...it's DA:I. It's its own game. In fact, DA:I is my favorite of the three, simply because I feel way more attached to the protagonist. However, I love each Dragon Age title on it's own. and appreciate the game differences.
Gameplay from ME:1 was very different to ME:2...and ME:3 was different yet again. I still love each and every one of those games.

Well, I'm still playing partly because I don't have much time to play. I've only finished two playthroughs and I'm still working on my completionist run.

I think I will try again, but this time really, really force myself to carry on. Maybe promise myself some cake if I finish.
I just hope I don't go insane or something.

People said the same thing about DAO vs DA2 when it came out.

For myself, Origins has the least amount of playtime between the three games. When I did a proper full playthrough of Origins for the first time, I was super happy with the story, but when I tried to play it again, many parts of it felt like so much of a slog that I find it difficult to motivate myself to spend a lot of time with it. To a lesser extent, I think part of the problem was the visuals. Maybe it's just the console version, but it can be kind of harsh on the eyes. The color palette is, to me, atrocious. The brown doesn't seem to be so much a stylistic thing than something that covers up the crude graphics of the game. It also has what I consider to be some of the worst add-on content among my small collection of Bio games, between both Dragon Age and Mass Effect. I refuse to play Awakening, Witch Hunt, Leliana's Song, Darkspawn Chronicles and Golems of Amgarawkhaghkhhhghghk ever again, and this is unique among all the DLC I have. When I replay DA2, I always play MoTA and Legacy, and I never skip anything in the ME trilogy, even the Firewalker stuff, which I'm not a big fan of either.

As for DAI, I already am close to the time spent in DA2 in only two fairly complete campaigns. This is NOT recommended, but I rather enjoy playing the content that might appeal to that character.

I quite enjoy DAA if one can avoid the Mine Bug; scariest looking Darkspawn in the series, IMO. And I enjoy playing a Dwarven Rogue Archer Warden with Sigrun as a matched Sister-in-arms. Leliana's Song was not only fun, but insightful to her character. And while it did take me a long time, Darkspawn Chronicles was also quite enjoyable; like killing Howe again as well as seeing the secret of the Smith.

My problem with Awakening is that aside from the buggy questing, it all feels kind of dry to me, if that makes any sense. I just don't feel its story like I did with Origins, which I guess is fine since it's just an expansion that presents more lore and an interesting character in the Architect, but then I can't even rely on most of the companions to really make up for my lack of interest in its main plot. The only characters I truly like in the group are Sigrun and Nathaniel. I rarely ever take the others out of Vigil's Keep because they all annoy me in some fashion (though Velanna + Nathaniel in the party is fantastic), and I'm just not fond of having to find out how to earn back Oghren's approval (despite nigh maxing it out in Origins proper) so that I can unlock his personal quest and resolve it, which is actually kind of tricky here because it's so short so you have so few opportunities. I've never had a group in any other BioWare game that I actually disliked on average before.
Darkspawn Chronicles is just what-if shenanigans so I can't really find a compelling reason to play it more than once, especially since it's purely combat oriented, and that's not Origins' strong suit for me.
As for Leliana's Song, admittedly, I guess my real issue with this is that I'm actually kind of sick of Leliana, and hope that we never see her again. I made her Divine, so I'm at risk of her popping up again, but I just don't want to interact with her anymore.

Hey guys
That title probably sounded a lot harsher than intended lol. I meant more of a "What's keeping you interested" idea.
I got the game as soon as it came out (midnight release), and up till now, I still havn't finished my 1st playthrough.
Before release, i'd had 9 characters planned out so I could experience all the specializations and romances
But i've found that the boring story, endless side quests and huge reductions in game mechanics made me lose interest quickly, to the point where I havn't played in the last... 4 months or so.
So, I ask, how are you guys still playing? What's keeping you interested? How many times have you finished the game? I'd really like to bring life to my 9 Inquisitors, and need some inspiration!
I did 2 playthroughs, and unlike past dragon age games I don't really feel the need to replay. The main driving force behind new playthroughs here will be dlc (available on ps4 sometime next year, I bet) and the worlds I create in origins and DA2... both of which I'm really enjoying replaying.
Sadly DAI just threw out most of the unique elements that made the earlier games so replayable. Tough choices, unique companion sidequest dialogue that made me want to try every part composition in every main quest, these things are absent. Above all, a lot of inquisition just isn't that fun, it was kind of a chore like an MMO, and I find myself hoping for some real story content to change that opinion... but i think they're locking into this style at least until DA4.
The AI in particular is awful, removing tactics and changing or dropping so many skills was just puzzling for me, and the enemies have so little variation, especially the mages.
The funny thing is, the witcher, which i never played after 1 (wasn't much of a fan) has delivered an experience closer to dragon age then inquisition did.

For me, it's easy - headcanons for my Inquisitor. I tend to get into the role playing part of RPG and with the problems with banter, I can easily fill the silences when doing the side quests with conversation so there's plenty of entertainment value in the game. That's why games like DAI have endless replayability for me over a game like the Witcher. I've tried to play the Witcher several times and never get very far. I know some people like Geralt but I find him terribly boring. He's not my character after all. That was what made DA2 difficult as well though I was eventually able to sort out my headcanons enough to get a few playthroughs done.

I finished the game a couple times because:
1) I originally thought there would be more than one ending
2) I wanted to see all the romances through to the end
It turns out I couldn't force myself to trudge through the game enough times to see all the romances and I last played in December. ![]()

I'm not, but I do have over 200 hours logged... I think that's pretty swell already.
I love the random weirdness of anime sometimes.

I finished 7 playthroughs. I haven't played the SP since March (when Bloodborne released lol) but I have bought JoK so I think I will return to it later. I think the reason for me to play that much is that I really like the subtle changes in dialogues (or the not subtle ones) when you import a different bg from the keep. I don't really mind the fetchy quests since I am a MMO person; actually, I enjoy walking around with banter. I also like the colour palate. It makes me want to explore the scenery. And lastly, I frankly quite enjoy the combat (playing as archer or mage) and I am still playing MP.

I've been playing it for six months straight (one character a month), so I'm taking a break until the next dlc once I'm done with my current PT.
In that time, I've played:
One qunari, one human, three elves, one dwarf.
Four female, two male.
Three rogues, three mages.
One artificer, one rift mage, two knight enchanters, one tempest, one soon-to-be assassin.
Romanced Sera, Solas, Josephine, Iron Bull, Cassandra, just started Dorian.
Tried various different party combinations, still not heard all the banter.
Part of Jaws of Hakkon (only just released on PS4).
Different paths for companions, e.g Cole more spirit/human, Leliana softened/hardened. Still need to keep Bull Qunari.
Various different story choices, including judgements. Still haven't sided with Gaspard yet, or tried the meaner options.
I adore the characters, so I play to squeeze as much as I can out of them. I'm doing fewer side-quests (just as and when I feel like them). The main story is brief, but I really enjoy that too. Plus the character creator (hair options aside) is excellent and provides a lot of opportunity for different-looking characters.

I am about 20 or so hours in, last time I touched it was a couple of months ago. Even getting to that 20 hours was frankly a real chore and I highly doubt that I will ever get back to it again. It is what it is but I cannot get into this game at all no matter how I try. Giving TW3 a try now, see how that goes.

I threw a like your way because you expressed yourself in such a courteous way. Thanks for that. I'll try to answer your computation as best I can. To me, while each of the games varies greatly in aesthetics and gameplay, the heart of all three is similar. The characters, character interactions, and character voices in all three games are fantastic. I'd probably take DAI's cast by a hair over DAO, but its close. The irony for me is that only character that I didn't find compelling in DAI was the main villain (I understand why this is a big deal for a lot of people). A lot of lesser villains/side characters had really interesting character arcs. I still feel like video game stories in general still have a long way to go, but Bioware games are still a cut above most of what's out there (with some notable exceptions, one of which was recently released in May.)
All three are party RPGs, which at least for bigger budget games are kind of hard to come by. The combat is different in all three, but it also works for me in all three. There are things I like about each. I have a lot of nostalgia for the traditional RPG mechanics and stat leveling in DAO. DA2 had my favorite instance of the tactics menu for controlling the party, and DAI is the game where I have the most fun controlling my principal character in fights.
Anyway, I won't think any less of you if you don't manage to finish. The world would be a pretty boring place if everyone liked the same things. If your looking to slog through for story/head canon reasons (which I totally get) just bear down and focus your sites on the big yellow carrot. Do that, and limit your conversations to the people you care about, and I think you'll surprise yourself by how quickly you can make it through.

I play because for me the quests and such aren't always the same endless stuff. I do them in different order for one and for two I am roleplaying in my head the entire time for what that particular character would be thinking, feeling, how they'd be reacting. That makes the quests different for me each time. So far I have 6 completed playthroughs.

Well everyone, I finally just finished the game, and the ending... T'was crap. lol
(I don't know how to spoiler tag things, so for anyone who hasn't finished, spoilers follow)
Cons:
- That big empty arena for finding the Dragon Guardian? Who WOULDNT realise a fight would happen there.
- The final level after Cory gets mad. Sure. Floating islands. Ok.
- The battle itself. Man, people wern't kidding when they said it was easy.
- That TERRIBLE "We go back to Skyhold" line...
- The blatant repeat of Origin's celebration party.
- The epilogue showing exactly how few actual choices you had in the game.
Pros:
- The story stuff about Flemeth was good. There was a decent level of emotion in the voice acting between her and Morrigan.
- The epilogue style was an improvement from Origins/2.
- The final scene with Flemeth and Solas was a good narrative. (Though I still feel a bit lost).
