IIRC when Dunvi was looking at shotgun patterns a couple years back, the decal generation wasn't entirely representative of where the shots actually hit the wall. Speculated that it ignored some accuracy bonuses, I don't recall if she investigated the decal generation in much more detail.
A functional test is to take a Claymore against some CATs on Gold. You will be able to one-shot them at a little further out if you zoom.
Stuff like the Claymore I naturally quick scope out of Sniper Rifle habit. No need to get rid of that habit.
But weapons like the Piranha, I still don't see myself scoping it outside of some rarer situations. As it's all about starting fire and moving in on the enemy out of scope to close ground. It's also like a stagger king too, so great for close quarters. I also always put one form of stability help on it if I can help it.
