The status effects don't stack. In practice FC is much higher and more consistent damage (since, FC is upfront damage with no travel delay, nothing is resistent to spirit damage, and there's multiple high profile spirit vulnerable enemies).

EB does have its advantages though in that it's ranged, can cause do some significant debuffing (36% resistance debuff from the upgrade), is a detonator (imo that's a disadvantage on the necro though since you want to spread freeze on multiple enemies before detonating it), and has 12 chances to cause procs. I think it's more synergistic with the keeper as static cage adds another 50% weapon damage per hit (bring it up to 1620% per cast) and causes shocked, giving you a 5% chance to set up and detonate a nightmare combo on each hit (the most I've gotten on a single EB has been 3). But it is RNG and you have a ~55% chance per EB to get no disturbance of spirit procs so I'm still not all that fond of it without with a weapon that has a proc as well.

You need to work alongside a rogue with upgraded KOB or KOP for the 3s damage before wakeup from sleep in order to get the most mileage out of EB's Detonate --> Nightmare Combo.

 

The debuff is not very good on Necro since it doesn't synergize well, since her primary burst damage is spirit. Mindchill staves can help other players shatter damage, but typically those shatter detonates are already lethal.

This is not how the static cage weapon damage bonus works, not on paper and not in-game. It does give more damage, but the actual values are quite different.

 

While there is a small chance to weaken, the math doesn't work up to 55% chance to weaken from 12 target chances to hit. I'd need to do more math work to get the actual figures. Regardless you want guaranteed weaken when setting up detonations, not chance based ones. Veilstrike is typically used for weaken, and dispel or mindblast for the detonator.

 

DPS keeper doesn't work well to justify spec'ing EB on Keeper, as Keeper is far too good at AoE Control.

 

I've used EB in Necros. Only reason to bring it is if another Necro already has WB covered, because afaik WB doesn't stack.

That's more ideal, but when pugging most of us just take what we get for teammates.

Do you happen to know or have a better estimate of what the actual values are?

~55% chance to get no weaken procs (95%^12) --> ~45% chance to get at least one weaken proc per cast of eb.
I agree it's not enough by itself, which is why I don't prefer it without a weapon that also has a proc.

I find static cage with a skill ring to be enough for most groups, maybe with FC or upgraded lightning bolt as backup CC. I'm not fond of veilstrike due to the long cooldown or disruption field due to the small pbaoe, which works but takes more team coordination than I can count on.

Yes exactly, I don't get why killing with walking bomb can't spread burn or whatever too.

Energy barrage is now 85% instead of 66% so damage is now quite nice (FC has lower) + according to
"Each projectile also applies Burning, Shocked, or Chilled depending on the staff's element type."
With my fire staff it could boost damage and spread this burn probably.

 

Ah yeah... My tactic was to kill with Flashfire/Winter's Grasp to ensure that the Panic/Frozen status was not removed or expired. I will be honest: If you are not hosting, it's not reliable, as the status effect can sometimes be delayed by up to a few hundred milliseconds after the enemy died, rendering Virulence useless.

Here's the weird thing though: About six months ago when I tested this, I never tested the initial explosion and spreading status effects with Virulence (because of what I just said above), but tertiary explosions seemed to spread the effect from what I remember. Obviously, I could be mistaken on that because it's been a while, or it could have been altered.

I will resurrect this thread because I've played that build at last and I want to thank for this general idea for build.I've ended with flash fire (not upgraded), winter's grasp (upgraded), walking bomb and spirit mark.It's fun build with very nice XP generation potential. Spreading fear, frozen is very rewarding.For now it's my favorite build on necro.Spirit mark is probably the skill I would change (I've taken it mostly for self res reasons), I'm also not a big fun of Horror(because of slow casting) Maybe I will try some either FC, FS or maybe energy barrage next time, who knows.

You're very welcome, this is my favourite build for the necro as well and I have to agree that I'm not a big fan of Spirit Mark, I'd much prefer her have lightning bolt to spread paralyse ;) I love the xp generation and how this build is focused around timing your attacks and not ability spamming :) Glad you enjoyed it!
