Honestly i dont know. i just remember that from a thing ablut Womens football from the 90s.
To be fair, a men's Germany v. Ivory Coast would play out the same. Ivory Coast is certainly one of the best African teams around, but Didier is getting old and you can't build a team on the Toures. Besides the German men's team is unstoppable right now, they make every match look one-sided.
And this turf thing is pretty bushleague, but I'm not letting it detract from the enjoyment. It's good for Japan's game, you know.
Not so good for Sydney's legs though
Spoiler
Try Womens Rugby.
The turf problem is a difficult one. Both logistics and cost wise. FIFA would have to pony up the funds to have grass for all the games and all the maintenance that goes along with it because host countries might very well pass if they are asked to provide it.
You'd think all that bribe money could be used to invest in potential future revenues, but nay.
How can you NOT hit the goal in a penalty ...
See, that's how you do a penalty.
Well, what a surprising game. USA was on top of its game, easily their best showing during the WC so far ... and Germany with an untypical bad form. Losing balls left and right, inaccurate passes, uncreative in their attack and when they do get through, utterly abysmal finishing. I mean ... how can you miss the goal in a penalty? It's not like the posts jump away from the ball ... that's like missing the free throws in the NBA, such a mundane standard situation should be muscle memory at that level of competition.
Game was nice to watch and USA clearly deserved the win, but I am thoroughly disappointed by Germany. The game could've been a so much better thriller if Germany would've just played like ... Germany.
Well, let's hope Japan does better tomorrow!
womens football > mens football tbh.
America!
(With a generous assist from the officials)
Well, that penalty for USA certainly was a bit sketchy. The way I saw it the foul happened outside the penalty area. Mopre importantly though, I didn't get to see exactly what happened just a few seconds before as one of the germans fell rather spectacularily. That looked like she got a mean bodycheck or something of that sort, referee made the call to proceed and we didn't get another look at it.
Still, the way USA was playing and more importantly the way Germany wasn't playing pretty much nailed the match, not that one penalty goal. I don't think I saw so many mistakes and half-assed finishing from Germany in a long time.
Ganbatte!!!
Game is starting strong. Oh yeah!
Women playing sports lol.
They should be in the kitchen where they belong.
Yeah dureing the breaks getting snacks... FUKIN HURRY THE GAME IS BACK ON..
GOOOOUUUURUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Penalty shot will also be subject of lots of controversy as that was litterally a borderline decision measured in nanometers from the looks of the replay, but at least it wasn't a false call like the one given against Germany that evidently happened before the penalty zone.
Let's see how England reacts, so far they appeared to have the edge over Japan, but the latter is incredibly dangerous once you let them room to play their game.
Them England ladies look pissed and hellbent on retaliation. Great game so far.
And the England penalty shot right now was a farce. Replay showed beyond doubt that english women just let herself fall without contact from the japanese defenders. Bah. Underserved equalizer.
well she is probably half ittalian then.
well she is probably half ittalian then.
That or argentinian. That dive was as melodramatic as it was a clear dive meant for nothing else than bait a penalty. I saw no overt physical contact in the replays and most certainly no contact that would cause falling in such a flailing heap of meat.
Aaaaah so she is French got yeh.
And goal by England ... in the english goal though. 2-1 for Japan. Not as tragic though, because if she didn't put the ball over the line, the japanese player undoubtedly would've completed to the same end unless the keeper were a football god incarnate.
Japan wins a feverish match, despite England largely looking better as Japan struggled with the english pressing that put the brakes on Japan's usual midfield magic.
And the English women are still more succesfull than the men, at least they made the semi-final, maybe they should switch registration with the men for 2018 ![]()
Tragic loss for England, great game by them and great coaching. Japan looked totally out of whack, mainly because the English attacked them as soon as a pass was received, they actually deserved to win the game in my mind on 2nd half play.
If the USA uses the same tactics as england they will beat Japan no question in my mind.
Edit: Oh, and the woman are totally equal with the men as far as lame outrageous diving is concerned to draw penalty kicks.
You know what I found hilariously ironic during that match?
The commentator for the match was all about how the japanese women weren't as physically fit as the other teams participating and how a huge disadvantage that is when playing against physical teams like England ... yet the english team had to check up two of its players at the sidelines because of cramps I presume (one of which was the keeper, which was arguably the single least taxed person on the field ...) and I believe Japan also hardly switched players like England did.
Oh boy did I want to reach through my display and slap that commentator.
As for the gameplay itself, I concur that England seemed to be the better team overall, but they just couldn't bring that ball in the net (the japanese one, that is) without diving like some of those italian dramakings, but likewise did they struggle quite a bit whenever Japan had enough room to play their own game. As much as that self-goal was unlucky, I think if the defender hadn't gotten her foot on that ball, the japanese player would've nailed it anyway.
womens football > mens football tbh.
lol
I bet even the men team of Werder Bremen can beat Women's champion team of the world!

Note: Werder Bremen once was a great team. Now it's nothing but a collection of mediocre players.
I'm pretty sure most men would throw a gigantic hissyfit over having to play on turf.
Women don't play football, they play soccer.
