Going for a Tempest/Sabotage Rogue, using Flask of Lightning --> Basic attacks from the back; and Flask of Fire --> Poisoned Weapons + Shadow Strike (from the back)/Throwing Blades. Also, daggers have Hidden Blade proc. When crafting a weapon, which of the three gives more damage on Nightmare: attack, armour penetration, or sunder (with or without Dirty Fighting)?

Thanks!

More detail: with certain rogue weapons (I wish I could remember if it's a dagger or a bow), you can get ~91% armour penetration with Dragon Bone. You can also add Sunder procs, or just straight up attack. I'm not sure how these add up to end-damage. I would think that AP >>> Sunder, given that it's a permanent effect, and especially since Throwing Blades adds Sunder 100% of the time. But not sure whether +20% attack is better than, say, 40% AP.

You should just try to get the passive which leaves an enemies armour sundered - that helps a lot in my experience. Beyond that just improve attack and crit chance damage. Armour Penetration itself is not worth it really if you can consistently sunder.

If you're running solo, then this won't matter, but if you're using your party put sunder on hit on companion weapons.  Then either go straight ATK, or get your crit chance way up and go crit damage.  If you can get your party to crack enemy armor, your crit damage bleeds through unchecked.  In other words, unless you're doing it all yourself, then keep in mind your companions can do some of these things for you.  Also, armor penetration is really only an issue against heavily armored opponents.  you will get the best return from crit damage if you crit often - if not, think about flanking damage which is generally double ATK per return, but requires you to of course be flanking.  ATK has low returns, but is always in effect.

Thanks, fellas--sounds good: Sunder with Throwing Blades and/or Companions, boost crit chance and damage :).

Sunder's effective value is only as good as the enemy's armor, since it is applied as a percentage reduction (as far as anyone can tell -- it's been buggy and a bit mysterious). If the enemy has cheap armor, the debuff is also cheap. True, since it is a status effect on the target, it benefits all attackers, so as noted above it is more valuable in a party than solo, but still.

You can do much better with a different weapon buff.

GhoXen's crafting priority might be of use here.

http://forum.bioware...-and-mechanics/

Crafting Priority:

3% Flanking Dmg > 1.75% Attack > 3% Armor Pen > 1.75% Crit Chance = 1.75 Dexterity (rogue) >1.75 Willpower > 1.75 Magic (mage) = 1.75 Strength (warrior) > > 1.75 Cunning > 3% Crit Dmg > 3% Barrier Dmg > 3% Guard Dmg

This just says that, all else being equal and confronted with a choice between two different slot/mat combos in a schematic crafting scenario, which slot/mat to go with. It doesn't mean that Flanking is better than Crit. That said, you will probably find it easier to buff Flanking than AP or Crit or Sunder for that matter. You get more for each Flanking buck than you do with other mats.

Playing a rogue, I'd go for flanking over sunder unless I was battling high armor targets all the time, like while dragon hunting. But then again, I'd play an archer over a DW rogue for dragon hunting anyway.

Yeah that is the main problem with Sunder or even AP.  Limited by enemy armor.  So the worth depends on you base damage relative to armor.  Sunder is at least party friendly, which is why it is better than AP.

As far as that priority goes, it is making a fair amount of assumptions that really may not apply.  150 base damage, 50 enemy armor, only 10% crit chance.  For most rogues, especially assassins, your effective crit chance is much higher, and that improves the position of crit damage in the hierarchy (as well as dropping crit chance).

Dex is probably also better than AP at that point since it buffs crit damage bonus and attack simultaneously.

Of course, as has already been mentioned, rogues have sunder / ap passives that are a good investment.

Don't baddies get increased armour in nightmare? It definitely felt that way...
