I'll start. Admittedly, my opinion is a negative one....

1. I don't appreciate that a historically single player franchise has been turned into an MMO. (Does everything have to be online now?) I was first intrigued by TES due to the offline, single player, sandbox experience. The bulk of TES' allure is the immersive single player experience.

2. They dumped the subscription model which is cool - but they increased the microtransactions/pay as you play, and put in a cash shop. No thanks.

3. ESO looks like WoW but set in Tamriel. There really isn't that much about it that blows the player away.

Conclusion: Please leave our single player games alone, Zenimax.

I haven't tried it. I actually have a copy of it sitting on my desk. But haven't felt the need to install it. I have read that some things have been fixed and improved over time. But nothing that makes me want to install it.

But the cash shop and micro-transactions turn me off.

I agree, such a single player-centric franchise should just stay that way. Unless they can really blow it out of the water. Which it doesn't look like they have.

It has not received very high praise or very high critic ratings. Paranoid-me is worried that TES is just going to become a permanent MMO. I don't think that is a realistic fear. At least, I hope that I am wrong.

I was thinking of getting this for PS4 for my birthday.....I really miss Elder Scrolls

I watched AngryJoe's review, and he tore that game to pieces.

I'm going to assume it plays like SWTOR? Free, but has a cash shop

The single player Elder Scrolls has plenty of potential and a large enough fan base. Bethesda isn't going to abandon it, or at the very least they'll pass it on to another studio. But Elder Scrolls will still be around I think. There is sill plenty of money to be made in that realm.

I actually like swtor as a single player experience. the class stories are pretty good. id have preferred KotOR 3 but...

So does ESO have any good single player play?

Also the real money "cartel market" isnt too bad in swtor most of the suff is just cosmetic. I guess im asking how do the two compare?

Good point about the class stories being unique.

My favs are the SW, JC, JK, SA

Think SW had the best companions, Vette, Quinn, Janesea <3

and I loved finally being able to play a LH Sith

yeah. this is a bit off topic but light side empire is carrying the game for me.  in crpg you are always the hero and picking the "evil chooses" boils down to just being a thoughtless jerk about it.

The idea of being the "villain" but being nice about it is just so different from the standard bill of fair. and i dont think we would get that view of the setting if the franchise had stayed single player.  all the "wait you're not going to kill me?" conversations are too fun.

So ESO... nothing like that? I do not play MMOs much I tried LotRO and the WoW free to twenty when they offered it but thats it. and im really curious about ESO because i do love elder scrolls.

I was hoping for a scaled up version of the empire/stormcloaks quest line. and im willing to have to pug with Wizlord69 and Slapmaster to get it... if its the only way...

Chapter 1 Light Side Sith Warrior can be extra-special fun, because you basically use "being nice" to troll several Jedi into attacking you (and losing, obvs).

It's an unnecessary cash grab with an identity crisis. It lacks what makes an ES game fun, like freedom and exploration, and has very little to bring to the MMO table. It just comes across as a standard MMO with a cool paint job.

On this topic, has there ever been a high demand for an Elder Scrolls MMO? The times I heard people asking for multiplayer, they wanted co-op similar to Dark Souls.

I knew it would be shitty the minute I heard about it.

But then, I say that about all MMOs.

I will be picking up a copy for my Xbox One.

I am not particularly interested in the title, but my gaming buddies are going to get it, and I would much rather play a 'meh' game with friends than play an exceptional one that only makes me wish I could play it with said friends. A little backwards I know, but I went for the weaker console (IMO) over the PS4 for the same reasons.

I enjoy my single player games, but as a general rule, I would prefer to play something mediocre with buddies (having a shared experience) than to be wishing for the multiplayer option in an astounding single player title. <shrugs>

I hate MMO's.  The only one that I've ever played was SWTOR.  But that was for two reasons:  1.) KOTOR is my favorite series of all time; and 2.) SWTOR offered the ability to play single-player.  I was totally underwhelmed.  I still got my money's worth for it.  I played all of the classes up until the final class chapter (even if I only ever beat JC), so that was dozens (if not hundreds) of hours of playing.  But it really confirmed for me that MMO's aren't my thing.  Plus, I was playing on my laptop since I don't have a gaming computer and that was not convenient at all.

I've already pre-ordered ESO and it will arrive tomorrow.  I'm willing to give it a shot.  I'm going in with pretty low expectations, to be honest, but I hate to pass up an TES game.  I expect that it will be a fun distraction, but that I'm going to despise the MP aspects of the game.  I'm just hoping that I can keep my head down and tune out the MMO elements, like I did with SWTOR.  Outside of the flashpoints, I never used did group quests or PvP and don't intend to in ESO (I don't even know if there is PvP in ESO).  I'm sure that I'll be over it shortly, but given the lack of other good RPGs out there right now, this will have to tide me over for a while.

I think there is PvP.  I'm pretty sure AngryJoe's review covers it, and he was pretty positive about it.  I could hop a bus, grab it from the gamestop at my local mall, it's about 10 mins from my apartment.....but that price....shssfshsfshsfhs........

SWTOR got me into PvPing

From what i've seen, it plays like a watered-down Skyrim with MMO-style classes and abilities.

I'm interested in it now that it doesn't require a monthly subscription. I may give it a shot sometime in the future.

That's what I REALLY hate about MMO's is that monthly fee. You pay 60+ bucks depending on what edition you get, or even what country you're from, and then slap 15 bucks a month on top of that!

I waited till SWTOR was free, then I would buy the 90 day 30 buck card at my leisure when I could afford it.

I've heard that it's one of the worst things ever created by a human being, right alongside communism and the bagpipes.

TOR had at least a decent single player and great story (for the most part) behind it.

It would work better if they put it on consoles. Word I've heard is that TOR was supposed to actually be on the consoles as well. Console MMO's actually sound like a cool idea for me.

I preordered a copy for PS4, going to pick it up tonight.

In my opinion, people arw looking at it all wrong. This isn't a replacement for TES VI, it isn't something I'm playing instead of TES VI, this is something to tide the ES junkie in me over until TES VI comes out. I know it will be fun enough when playing with my friends (who are all getting it) that it won't be a letdown, so why not? It isn't like the console market is flooded with games right now.

Anyone who is looking for someone to play it with on PS4, add me. Same username.

It sounds more like ESO would be a better rental for you - or a discounted bargain bin game. You know? I mean... you could save money on a game that probably won't blow you away, given what you've described here. ;)

Wait... ESO hasn't come out yet? I thought it released like, last year or something?
