Basically any biotic classes, I don't touch, with the exception of cabal and vanguard
I also never touched salarians, volus or batarians out of principle.
Mostly play quarians, destroyer, human engineer, and juggernaut.
Basically I pass on anything that relies on setting off combos, preferring weapon or utility focus.
Drone is fine, but decoy only really seems to work on Geth, so I find it useless on the other 3 factions.
Decoy qua decoy distracts only a few of the enemy, yes. But shock decoy shocks all of the enemy. Placed in a doorway it staggers all the mooks trying to get to you. Decoy in front of you, drone behind the enemy, open fire. It can be fun. A headshooter like you could have even more fun.

One of my fondest ME3MP memories was as a Merc vs Cerbs on FB White. A BW GI was perched in sniping position in the central 'overlook' while my Merc was just below at the RHA wall corner. We had a sweet rhythm going: Cerbs would spwn and take cover at the nearby half walls, I'd shove a Decoy down their throats, the GI would render them headless, and my Scorpion balls would turn the stragglers to ground chuck. These are the moments that make me not completely hate this effing game all the time LOL

I have three particular fond memories of the Volus Merc.
First, the time we went as a 4-Merc team to Reactor Hazard. There were 8 pets floating around. I recall glancing to my left and thinking, "Fine, Bailey has that side covered," and carrying on the fight on my side. After a minute I noticed it was Bailey's decoy.... 
Second, the time we went as an all-Volus team and did Giant Hazard Collectors Plat. I think the total number of deaths was in single digits, I only went down once, and the game was about 23 minutes. Easiest Plat I ever saw. Two of us were Saber Volus Mercs btw.
Third, PaunchyCyclops trying out the Saber Volus Merc, getting Glacier Cerb, and turning a 4-person game into a solo with 3 observers.

Don't forget to spam the agro dump button too. It like the only kit where I don't feel to bad about agro dumping because I have 2 pets to replace agro. And this in itself is part of the charm of the Volus Merc. Total fat ninja out of the shadows awesomeness.
I also feel like Volus Merc is the only kit where I can go crazy with the pets. On something like the HE, having put out the drone again feels like it gets too much in the way of his other powers. So ultimately using the drone is much easier and fun on the Volus Merc. With Salarian and Decoy it's not that much a problem because Decoy is so super tanky and lasts. (PS, to the guy that said Decoy don't work, make sure you pick the shock evolution. It's a must. Otherwise forget you have a Decoy).

I've played them all, and I really like them almost all, except for a few. I absolutely can't make friends with the Turian Amiger Legion Soldier and the Cabal Vanguard.
I recently decided to try and complete all of the challenges, and found that I hadn't even spec'ed the Volus cannonball. Currently I have waves to complete for him, the Turian saboteur, Vorcha hunter, and Asari Vanguard. There were more (Drell vanguard, Krogan shaman, Quarian marksman), but I've finished them now.
I should really play vanguards more, but I got out of the habit of using them as I never used to host.
I did a Volus Merc Platinum dance party in the reactor once.
This is an excellent idea, although I think it should be extended to all Volus. Really, all of you. I'm sure you'll fit, as you're all so tiny. There's alcohol and... Oh what would you Volus want, crumpets? There's crumpets. Right there in the middle.
Don't mind me, I'm not really a big party person, so I'll just wait outside. making sure no one accidentally leans on this big red button.
