I love the Witcher 3, but while I appreciate it's grittiness and  grounded tone, I find the characters in DA:I to be more endearing and memorable.  I love how fantastical Thedas is and how varied the landscapes are.

To say that Bioware is dying/sinking ship is ridiculous. That is not to say their work couldn't benefit from some introspection and critical thinking. But it's not like that's a new thing, and same goes for other big developers as well.

Some of their recent stuff seems a bit out of touch, some badly written. Maybe it just seems so because my expectations are very high. If you look back, there's more that ain't pretty.

I would not be surprised if they delay dragon age four (or inquisition II or whatever name they decide to use) for several years, instead using the dragon age name only for portable games and new DLC modules for the inquisition (DA3).

I imagine that their hands will be full trying to work on the new star wars game, the brand new IP as well as mass effect.

Don´t be surprised if Dragon Age remains for 5 or 6 years without a new title. Although the major success that DAI is making could potentially change this and speed things up.

I really don´t know what´s their current composition. How many teams do they have and what exactly are they doing right now?

The Thedas of DA:I you mean?
Because in DA:O and DA2 Thedas was fairly "normal" and grounded

They suddenly decided to go all fantasy with DA:I though

For me they are dying (obviously most people disagree seeing as how successful DA:I was)

I just hope ME4 is nothing like DA:I (which was garbage, can't say it any nicer) and instead of focusing on a boring open world and fetch quests it does what ME does best:
Delivering an awesome story with memorable characters

Bioware, as part of EA, is the software house that can/will develop Star Wars RPGs.
I don't think they ever said they started developing one Though. Even then, I think Austin will develop it, with Edmonton dividi v their resources and manpower towards DA, the new IP and ME (though the latter has Montreal focusing on it).

The "Bioware is Dying" thing has been going on ever since the launch of the "dumbed down" Mass Effect 2.  Jettisoning a bloated skill system and completely unmanageable inventory system in favor of a system that was simple to use and easy to understand, and frankly, made the game more fun, was apparently "selling out" and "becoming a gears of war clone".  People wanted Mass Effect 2 to be a carbon copy of Mass Effect 1, game play wise, and when it wasn't, they started moaning, and haven't really stopped sense.  It didn't help that Dragon Age II took Dragon Age in a completely different direction.

With the exception of the endings of ME3 and DA:I, which both felt rushed, the last two games have been really good.  Neither are without their problems, but heck, ME2 has it's problems, and is easily the best game Bioware has ever produced.

NME will be open world. The best you can hope is they'll find a better balance between it and the story content, I think.

The "Bioware is dying" crap has been going on since ME2 and even before then a handful of people complains about each new game being "a dumbed down version of an older game"

Considering how DA:I failed spectacularly in that regard I'm not keeping my hopes up

ME2 is probably my favourite Bioware game, I wasn't on the forums back then so this is interesting to hear

I liked ME2 too but that game got a handful of complaints (nothing still beats DA2 complaints)

DAO always had the same thing when some people were complaining about it and comparing it to BG

DAI was their first try.
Keeping expectations low is a good thing though.

Yeah, it was heavily criticized.
But from what older users said, the same happened for DAO. It's the norm for BSN.

Nope.  There was little debate that ME1's inventory and skill systems needed some tweaking and refining.  Unfortunately, ME2 was "refined" to the point of removing it entirely.  Which there was (justified) outcry.

And you may find this hard to believe, but I actually kinda like DAI.  In a way it reminds me of the old Baldur's Gate games.  It's main problem is there isn't enough story to properly fill out the world they built.

Well, that and a seriously dumbed down magic system  ;)

In addition to "streamlined" gameplay, ME2's story was paper-thin and the companions, while interesting, had almost no interaction with each other.  This combined to make ME2 feel more like a DLC bundle than a proper game.

Completely removed actually worked just fine for me.  I will admit I like ME3's system better, and I hope ME4 brings back armor mod slots and ammo mods, but one of the things I hated about Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect and all three Dragon Age games was gear micromanagement.  I got to the point with ME1 that I just wait until the opening conversation with Jokes is over, then cheat code myself the best armor and weapons in the game, and omni-gel everything I pick up along the way.

But I have seen people beg for the return of the ME1 inventory system and armor system.  I want to smack the crap out of them when I see it, because it's pretty much the opposite of fun.

DA:I was a good game.  I agree that the zones got grindy and MMO-ish, and a lot more time could have been spent adding cut scenes and such to make the quests more interesting.  But Dragon Age had the same issue with things like the Chantry Board quests, and Dragon Age 2, you couldn't walk across town without fighting 6 groups of bandits, which is grindy as crap.  As for dumming down, the thing that really annoyed the hell out of me was the lack of a healing tree for mages.  I rolled mage thinking "Hey, I'll be the healer, and then I can bring whoever I wanted on missions" only to find there's no healers.  (If I ever play Dragon Age 2 again, I'm getting a mod that lets me spec Merryl into healing, so I can take her instead of Anders with me everywhere.)

Sadly, the Dragon Age games have zero replay value for me, because while I LOVE the story in all of them, I HATE the combat mechanics.  The entire style of combat, in fact.

I really hope, for my sanity's sake, that the new Bioware IP is more Mass Effect then Dragon Age

Yeah I hope so too

I was really hoping for modern day urban fantasy, but Shadow Realms looked to be heading in that direction, and I doubt they decided to develop two games that fit that genre.  So, I'm hoping for another Science Fiction setting.  No reason they can't develop two Sci-Fi IP's at the same time.  Anything other than Fantasy, Zombies or Modern Military, and I'll be happy.  I'd prefer something other than post apocalyptic, but coming from bioware, I could probably even live with that.

ME1 was already a heavily streamlined console ARPG, it was just in denial and had poorly designed and barely functional window dressing all over the place to hide this.

ME2 fixed the identity crisis and was a much better game for it.

I'd love to see Bioware pick up Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura and make a sequel.

It would never happen, but Arcanum was a party-based RPG set in a fantasy universe that had reached the industrial revolution.

My history with steampunk video games is limited to Thief series and Dishonored. But even that limited experience with the genre makes me excited at the thought of a Bioware steampunk game :)

I'd take anything that steers clear of space opera and medieval fantasy settings.  I was hoping for urban fantasy, but that preview at last E3 showed what looked like some kind of prefab housing on a plain, so probably not unless its also near future.  Steampunk would be cool.  I'm hoping for no zombies and I'd prefer not post-apocalyptic.  I could do cyberpunk but I'm not wild about it (And that would set them up for more CDProjekt comparisons which I could do without).
