Why didn't Alexius put Felix through the Joining?

Risky, certainly. But riskier than dealing with the 1500 years old Magister who brought the Blight in the first place.

The Wardens don't do Joinings out of charity but a Tevinter Magister would have means to convince them.

Maybe there is a point when the Taint is just too advanced for even the Joining to save the afflicted? But Felix didn't appear to be any worse than Bethany and Carver. And Flemeth didn't say that Aveline's husband Taint was too advanced to be saved by the Wardens; only that they were out of reach.

I don't think that being saved from the Blight by going through the Joining is common knowledge. It seems that only Wardens or people like Flemeth seem to know that kind of stuff.

If he did know, he may have felt that allying with Corypheus was preferable to taking a chance with the Joining, which could very likely kill Felix outright.

The Joining seems like it's what a reasonable person would do.  I don't think Alexius qualifies as reasonable though.  Felix seems to have some sense.  If he'd known about how the joining and the taint work, he might have sought out a Grey Warden to put an end to his father's madness.  So it must be one of those well guarded warden secrets that definitely no one in Thedas knows about.

If Alexius knew about the joining, he'd probably reject that option.  He seems like he's looking for an outright cure for Felix, rather than a delay of the inevitable accompanied by a hazardous life of fight Darkspawn.  Probably would rather take his chances with blood magic he controls that leave it to the chance of a  vaguely magical Warden ritual, which could kill Felix anyway.

Even if he survived, a Warden would have to give up his title and leave to fight darkspawn forever. Alexius would still lose his son.

Alexius was something of an aberration for Teviner i that he actually loved his wife and son. Losing his wife and having Felix blighted broke him, and I'm sure the idea of sending Felix to the Wardens, and just delaying the inevitable horrified him. It's one of a number of reasons to go after Fiona, I'd think.

He probably really hated Fiona, if he knew about Grey Wardens being tainted; and then her being 'cured'.

I doubt he knew about it and I don't see Fiona letting him in on it with everything that went down. Would have been interesting though, I liked Felix and could see him surviving the Joining. Still 50/50.

Considering it seems to be somewhat known since she was returned to the Circle. It wasn't her choice from her conversation in Skyhold. Both Leliana and Morrigan seem to know about it, and while Leliana makes sense, how would Morrigan know?

If you are referring to the effects or recovery if those Blight touched from the Joining then its highly more likely they know about it considering The Warden was a companion in DAO. I could be misreading what you mean though, just woke up sorry!

Doesn't the Joining require Archdemon blood? I certainly don't think that the substance would be easy to procure, even for one such as Alexius.

A better question is: why didn´t Fiona sell out the warden´s secrets to save her skin and her followers? She could use the joining cure as a bargaining chip with Alexius, she is the only one ever cured... so she could even make up a story of how she would recreate it for Felix once they were all safe in Tevinter.

I don't think Alexius wanted to lose Felix to anyone, not even the wardens.  He might have known that becoming a grey warden halted blight sickness, but then Felix would be a warden and his former life would be over, so Alexius would still lose him.  If Cory did have the power to control the disease, that would let Alexius save his last family member and still have them around too.  It might absolve him from the guilt about losing his wife.  Or, it's as good a guess as any other.

Because then Bioware wouldn't have a way to make people hate mages.

It could be that Felix's blight inflicted illness is not strong enough to be cured by the Joining's Darkspawn Taint and it is implied that Alexius is stalling it for as long as possible.  A majority of the Grey Wardens did hide in their fortress in Orlais and a majority of Wardens are not the type to use the Joining as an act of mercy. The Dalish Warden was only put through it because Duncan needed a Warden. Had they been a bit crap, i doubt he would have offered due to the Grey Wardens being very fond of their secrets.

As I understand it, Fiona doesn't know exactly how it worked. Just that it did. And Alexius has more than enough education in magic to know when someone might be temporizing. Plus at the beginning Fioana had no clue about Felix. He showed no signs of Blight.

Bethany/Carver are recruited basically because Anders was able to talk fast. They might have been willing for favors, and wouldn't have needed the Wardens of Orlais. One of the closer commands would have done as well.

Because it has a very high chance of killing Felix? And even if it doesn't he still has less time left to live and that life will probably suck, due to nightmares, creepy whispering inside your head and looking forward to eventually loosing yourself until nothing but an sad, empty husk shambling around aimlessly is left of you.

Asking the immortal guy who has been tainted himself for decades and yet still retains his mind and personality for help in this particular matter is actually a potentially much more promsing move.

It turned out to be a bad idea but the thought behind it was rather sound I'd say.

The first place Alexius would have turned to would be the Wardens.

Even if the leadership remained silent after Alexius promised funds, recruits and an ally in the Magisterium, all it would take would be a Warden with fewer scruples for him to learn the secret.

Afterwards, it's a matter of convincing them to place Felix through it and even, possibly, allow him to be discharged of his duties. Again, funds, recruits, etc.

Then again the Joining is sometimes fatal. Maybe Alexius didn't want to take that chance?

The Joining being possibly fatal is the only reason I think Alexius didn't try it.

Here's the problem: the exact process of becoming a Grey Warden is not actually common knowledge among anyone outside of the Wardens. There are very few people who know that the Joining can - in theory - save someone who is already Blight infected. I'm sure that people are aware of Warden immunity to the Blight, but they don't know how the Wardens get that immunity. Just because the player has knowledge stemming from DA:O doesn't mean that everyone in Thedas knows what you know.

The only reason Carver/Bethany can survive the Blight infection and join the Wardens is IF you actually bring Anders along, because he is a Warden who knows about the Joining process. Even if Alexius had thought about trying to consult with the Wardens early on (before he signed on with Corypheus), he had no actual reason to believe that becoming a Warden could have saved his son. Again, nobody outside the Wardens knows that it's the Joining process that gives them their immunity and that it can save a Blight-infected person; as a result, I think he probably dismissed the idea out of hand (mistakenly believing that it was too late for the Wardens to help).

As for Alexius having Fiona around, by the time he had her and the Circle mages in his pocket, he was working for Corypheus and believed that he was going to save his son through serving Corypheus. Even if he had been aware that Fiona was a Warden, Alexius had already settled on a course of action. He had no reason to consult her or talk about his family problems at that point - she wasn't a friend or true ally, she was just a tool.

It's unfortunate, but love can make you do stupid things (like believing an ancient Tevinter magister is going to somehow save your son).

A.) Alexius may not know anything about how the Grey Wardens can "cure" blight. Why would he, he doesn't study it?

B.) It is likely that Alexius believed more in the ability of his time magic.
