Should The "Tempest" Have EDI?

I don't want a story based around the AI, at least nothing that apes EDI's, but I would like what is essentially the ship's Jarvis.

I'm all for a ship AI. but a different take then what they did with EDI and Legion.
Personally, i would love a character who feels more like a AI, being fast, fluid, and hyper like talking to 20 salarian at once.
Basically you start a conversation about the crew with it having a male irish accent and ends the conversation with it talking about krogan mating rituals with a southern belle accent.

Well for me, I would have to ask the question: "Why even bother making an alien or robot in the first place if all they are is going to be just a re-textured human?"
The big draw of Science Fiction and Fantasy genres (for me) is exploring things that are not possible in the real world, to see and experience the non-human side of the setting. Having everything and everyone act and think just like us seems so boring. It's like going to a five star restaurant and ordering a burger and fries when you can go to any fast food joint and get the same thing.

Thinking fast and being able to do multiple tasks with optimal efficiency simultaneously is a given, since it's a supercomputer, but for it to feel hyper, like talking to a bunch of salarians, would be counterintuitive, since this is supposed to be an interface between the crew and the ship's systems. It would be akin to the console readouts of your car having pop ups conveying all sorts of information quickly without you being able to process any of it.

" some qualities" i said some like Legion and the piece armor but when EDI have a chance to be something more, thats when people don't accept or want it.When you have the capacity to be more that an entity with many eyes or be able to experience sensations you hadn't before, wouldn't you take it?, i'll do it if i have a chance. Thats just my opinion.
There's nothing wrong with a character wanting to become something more, but when all paths lead to "Just like us" is when I start to roll my eyes.
The reason why I don't like the Pinocchio trope with regards to AI is because, well it's a trope. Its become so prevalent as to just be expected in whatever form of media that deals with such intelligences. Comparatively, there are far more stories about a robot struggling to discover what true love and the human condition is all about than a robot that is content to explore it's own devices; and of those narratives dealing with the second option there are even fewer that depict such robot in a non-antagonistic light.
Most fiction stories tend to make the assumption that we are the ideal, that our way of thinking or doing something is the correct one and that if a character doesn't conform to those ideals then they are either a mindless monster, or a pure evil monster.

A Male voiced AI maybe. With a personality more close to say JARVIS from the avengers movie. Also an AI for a change who dosent want to be "more human" and is perfectly happy with itself.

A ship voiced by a male would be a tiny bit queer (note: I wouldn't mind it).
Also, there was a male voiced AI in ME1 (the Signal Tracking quest)...

TBH I would prefer a VI like CASE and TARS from Interstellar, where you can program its voice and personality (Sarcasm 100%!). Just as effective as an AI but without all the ethics and bullsh*t.

No thank you. It can have an AI, but I really wouldn't like it being anything like EDI. Partly because we've already had an EDI and it's more fun to get some variation. But mostly because EDI really started grating on me by the end of ME3. Fairly early on in ME3, actually. Her whole "who am I? What is my purpose? What is love?" thing was pretty uninteresting as well, to tell the truth.
If there is an AI, I'd hope that it's whole development is just more subtle. Everything EDI in ME3 was the very opposite of subtle, maybe that's why it annoys me.

So most people want an AI or VI, but just with a better story.

hmmm...now that you mention it maybe..I still feel a good voice actor can do it alot of justice...tbh I would be okay with a Female AI voice as well or even no AI at all...just to exited bout ME4..trying so hard de-hyping myself

What I'd like to see (only if the game took place a while after ME3, which isn't really likely) is a Quarian pilot with their Geth co-pilot who is linked in with the ship system a bit like EDI. I think that would be pretty cool, but obviously would only make sense after ME3 if the Geth/Quarian conflict was resolved peacefully.

If it has Harbinger's voice or is voiced by Clint Eastwood, I would be ok with it. Have it like the hologram in ME2 instead of the platform in ME3
Yes just make sure it's the ship with no avatar to speak of. Just a voice would be nice.

I was just thinking of Interstellar and I'd LOVE to have a computer like TARS.
It would be awesome if you could configure them in the game like they do in the movies - change how sarcastic they are, what is their personality, the tone of their voices, etc.

I'm on the other side, a AI can be doing so much more then managing a ship, a simple VI can do that, so why would it be limiting it focus to just the ship and your conversion, it like asking the Doctor to sit still for a minute.

It's funny, but the expectations building up to the next ME game have thought me that many people just really want a repeat of what they already got instead of something new.

That's the gaming world for you... They want new stuff, but when they get it they hate it and criticize it and what the old stuff back.

AI? Cool, why not?
But DO NOT repeat EDIs arc. Please.

According to the leak it's the name of the protagonist's ship. Nothing official though.

The "Tempest" is the rumored name of the new Normandy, i.e. the ship the protagonist will use in the next ME game.
