According to the leak it's the name of the protagonist's ship. Nothing official though.
Oh right, I figured it was the new ship but then I couldn't find anything about The Tempest other than the SMG. Thanks man. ; u;

In some ways it's a pity none of the old characters return.
Literature nerds would get a chuckle I'm sure, from having Miranda on the Tempest ![]()

You mean old characters right?
Derp.

Lol, picturing the SMG becoming sentient, maybe it'd try to date a shotgun
Hmmm, that'd be an interesting marriage. Half the speed and weight of a SMG and half the power the blow some alien's face off. Oh right, they have that already. It's called the Piranha.
I would love if the VI or AI that the Tempest has if it has one would be along the lines of the AIs from the Halo franchise.
I would love it ecpecially if we could change the voice of the "ship/EDI" I have a few sugestions for the voice:
1: The one in the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy. that guy that made the voice for the ship would be awesome to have in ME:N
2: The original voices of the normandy crew(shepard, Garrus or tali) and so on could have been stored away cause of their heroism with saving the galaxy. (would love to have either Garrus or shepard though)
3: Darth vader (dont ask why he would be here cause I do not know =)
OR wait for it.... Jar Jar binks just for funzies =)

Oh God, Jar Jar.
"Quickly Jar Jar, what's the best route to get there as fast as possible?!"
"Uzzing my super bombad computer processorssies, missa calculat that the bestest way for youssa to git der is by takings the ways with the many, many treessas."
I finally watched Interstellar last night. I'll tolerate a VI aboard the ship if it is something like TARS and CASE.
Bonus points if I can set the sincerity, humor and sarcastic % levels.

Imagine all the LOLs that would be produced if we set sincerity, humor and sarcasm to 100% each...

Detonating in 5, 4, 3, 2....
I wouldn't mind a VI though
Only if there was an option to dismantle it with a shotgun it if it got too annoying.
Should it have an AI? Could be interesting.
But it can't repeat EDI's storyarc. And for heaven's sake get rid of the Pinocchio complex.
Isn't the point of most Pinocchio stories is that they were actually human all along, they just had difficulties at accepting themselves, or even more often they haven't been treated humanly. With EDI it's kind of weird, because she clearly doesn't start off as human. Although I think I liked her in ME2.
It is perfectly sufficient if the ship has a VI, a program that simply does its job without trying to be a "real person" and a "squadmate".
Oh, yes.
...
I have generally difficulties accepting AIs and robots and such creations as real characters. Unless it's simply the-pinocchio-who-was-human-all-along type (and even then in some cases you end up pondering why author presented them as an object for so long). Maybe it's a flaw from me, at least I know people who aren't too happy about my views. Some just laugh a lot when I talk about this with them, for some reason...
Mass Effect surprised me happily by doing rather good job with its synthetics. I'm not sure if I truly regret losing geth (or EDI) during those times I abandon them. Paying attention to this in the first place, and not getting annoyed, is more than what most "robot learns emotion" stories can get out from me. I wouldn't want to be certain about them having real emotions either, because that would seem somehow cheap - that's the point when I start fighting. Most of the time they're just something that reflect their creators. Legion is likeable, but is that an illusion?
Anyway, my favorite in all series was Vigil. It was fascinating, it could think, but in its own way.
To answer the question, preferably no EDI for me, and I'm not asking for a replacement either, but then again wouldn't probably mind replacement.
The title gave me a different idea about what the topic was actually about.
I wouldn't mind another A.I. on the ship.
I would be okay with a VI integrated with the ship. I could stand an AI so long as we never revisit the EDI arc again, and provided AI's are now legal.
SHODAN is what we need.
Sooo the galaxy just finished fighting a war those origins started with the introduction of AI and that AI's solution to the inevitable clash between organics and mechanics is to turn the organics into goo for the body of a mechanical AI and the "great" idea for exploring a new galaxy is to bring AI with you? err.. did people pay any attention to the story of the first trilogy?
Also there is a real danger of repeating yourself which is never as good because there is zero awe factor when the consumer goes didn't we just see Bioware's take on AI human relations? For the series to resonate strongly it needs to be distinct from the Shepard arc and that really needs to be clear in the first entry to the series. No repeat story arcs, no villains of the past and no fan service for the sake of fan service to the old series. People are going to compare ME:A to ME1-3 enough already do we really need a repeat of the EDI arc?
In some ways it's a pity none of the old characters return.

I actually need this to happen...
I'm expecting an AI as part of the ship. Obviously coming into ME:A, they don't want to make the new ship be an exact copy of the Normandy, but they also don't want to go back and make it worse than the Normandy.
And IMO, a ship with an AI is better than a ship without one.
Assuming trilogy, I don't see any reason to give the AI a body(especially in first game), but I wouldn't be opposed to it.
I want the Tempest to have an AI, but only if its voiced by Morgan Freeman
I think the game needs another A.I. or Synthetic character, but not EDI.
I'd be surprised however if the Andromeda colonists didn't leave at some point prior to Mass Effect 3's endings, making it impossible for any of Shepard's squadmates to be among them. The reason for moving the setting to Andromeda is most likely to avoid having to deal with ME3's endings. If that is the case, the colonists would need to leave before the Crucible fires.
The tempest`s "EDI" should be this guy:
