What would be the point of timed decisions if you could pause the game to stop them anyway? Just make them not timed. The interrupts are more than enough.

You can't pause like that in Alpha Protocol. At least sometimes.

Which is the model I have in my head at least.

Then there's the Witcher 3, which has timed decisions which can be paused by going to the home menu lol. Like, what's the point? I think it might be a flaw with how current gen consoles can suspend games easily. I remember when pressing the home button on PS3 some games paused, some games didn't. It could be that last gen consoles didn't have the tech to suspend the game, only pause it if capable which some games could disable, whereas the current gen consoles have the tech to do so.

I think the only thing I missed in DA:I's wheel from Mass Effect's best uses of it was the overly jerkass renegade moments. I know it has no service to the plot and can make it black and white but I had too much fun in ME1 and ME2 just being a douchebag whenever the narrative was dumb enough that I didn't care what was going on. Jerk Renegade was a good way to add some comic relief if you're not invested.

I just purchased Witcher 3, but haven't really played it. I didn't know it had this feature (even if it can be bypassed).

Not every decision, just enough to catch you off guard lol. The moments are usually very tense moments anyway that you feel compelled to make a quick decision, but the illusion doesn't get destroyed. In ME even if the building is exploding around you Shepard had all the time in the world to make a decision lol.
