Now sociopaths? Bethesda has that covered. Note how the protagonist emerges from the vault to see all he has ever loved and known in a complete and utter decaying and decrepit waste. His reaction? A gasp. He quickly adapts within seconds acting all composed in both his body and facial expressions. No doubt we could find some raider a few minutes away to utterly dismember whilst our "spoken" protagonist is silent over all of this.

Yeah I don't trust Bethesda to convey any themes relating to humans and emotion very well especially when it seems they can't even get a voiced protagonist right. Now I'm not asking for the protagonist to fall to his knees upon emerging from the vault, break down into tears and lament what the world has become in some emotional monologue but more than a gasp would be nice.

I actually think gasping and a general stunned shock is more realistic than a Planet of the Apes style "Noooo!"

He could hardly believe any of it by the way he was talking to Codsworth. I'd say that expression of shock is a bit more than a gasp. Unless you want it to be like Bioshock infinite with the character behaving like in a script.

Plus, Bethesda intentionally skipped over many of the story bits in that demo.

EDIT: Read that wrong

Wait, wait. Are you saying that an emotional, well-thought out monologue would be a realistic response from someone who just woke up centuries later to find his old life destroyed? Seriously? He could hardly believe any of it by the way he was talking to Codsworth.

HAHAHAHAHAHA...

This assumes that there WERE actual story bits to be skipped over during the demo.

They mentioned that there would be an entire section dedicated to pre-war life, as a way for the players to feel loss. Unless they want the players to get attached to something for only three minutes.

That sounds like something Bethesda will do.

That might be fun, hopefully its not a drag like playing as a kid in the Vault on Fallout 3 lol

Exactly.

I also like the freeze frame for that video.

According to the interview with Telegraph the game starts in 2075, two years before the bombs fell. So the pre-war segment is probably as long as the prologue in Fallout 3, enough time to bind with the characters aslong as the writing is good ofc.

Exactly.

Btw i was playing Skyrim the other day and i found some dynamic snow, i kid you not. Also found footprints in the snow, it is only in select places of the world, but hey atleast he was not lying about everything.

lol, all im saying is that for a game that takes place in Android Land it would be a shame if the "are androids people" theme is not explored, and if you cant do that trough the main character the second best option is someone close to them, someone more important than a plucky sidekick (because we all know the dog is an android)

Oh, I agree. The best way to get someone to question if something is human is to offer them the ability to stick their creamsicle in their Chevy Impala.

I did say I didn't want something so exaggerated but the general stunned shock only lasts for a couple of seconds and we don't even see the protagonist's face during this.

It was clear Bethesda was inspired by The Last of Us's opening sequence, having us start before the apocalypse and trying to give us a sense of loss but somehow based on what I've seen so far, I don't think it will convey the same emotion successfully.

Oh that explains why the opening is so laughably bad. "HERE IS 5 MINS OF EMOTIONAL ATTACHMENT NOW FEEL SAD YOU ****!" Yeah no. Bethesda not going to happen. It didn't work for FO3, It didn't work for TLOU and it won't work here. It takes a long time to have the effect.

DA2 as well. **** that games opening. An opening that's only effective if you're playing the game twice is really bad.
