This is Bethesda were talking about here. They hired Patrick Steward just to kill him off 5 minutes into the game, and then hired Liam Neeson just to kill him off 30 minutes into the game.

Your spouse never had a chance.

But they were well known actors.

You could be right. Although they used their well known actors a little better in Skyrim.

They sure did...

I think they meant Max Von Sydow and Christopher plummer, but i do appriciate some bad voice acting in form a vid.

It's a theory.  There no direct evidence that it's so.  Just one possible explanation for surviving 200 years.

Supposedly there's an entire section at the beginning of the game about life in the Old World.

200 year cryo-sleep confirmed in Game Informer. Zero chance of the PC being an android.

I know, I know Jimmy, I've spoken heresy and will immediately submit myself for a compulsory caning. :P

I did, but Arnold had a surprising cameo.

On a very very slightly related note, the chick who plays Aela played in a badass Terminator knockoff back in the 80s. It was called "The Hidden". It has one of the best car chase scenes ever.

I am like 99,9% sure that the spouse will survive and you can have them as a follower. It just makes sense, if i am wrong i'll eat my shoe.

I think that as well. I'm fairly confident the spouse and child survive, but have been kidnapped by the Institute of some such thing. Seems to be a better motivation to make one's way through a game than waking up after a 200 year cryo-sleep; everyone's dead; and I have no real purpose here but to make the world pay. Build settlements? Help people? Good karma? I don't think so.

Of course, on the other hand, the Institute could be the boogie man, and your motivation is to tear it apart because they are responsible for destroying your family.

Suppose we'll see, but the family man side of me hopes in the former.

More likely the child survives whilst the spouse does not but I can see the child's survival being a surprise rather than something the protagonist knows from the start. Some have said the child might even be an antagonist which would be interesting. What if they were kidnapped/left the vault years before you and now have grown up as an adult in the wasteland?

If they killed or have "taken" my family, I will go Liam Neeson on those fuckers!

That's it, my first character is going to be named Adam and he's gonna go around saying "I never asked for this"  :P

Maybe the crafting system works on dogmeat aswell... Would be awesome to replace some parts of dogmeat with robo parts :D

Like metal tooths, laser eyes, robo-legs to run faster and so on.

Dogmeat 2.0 would be great =)

random thought - the child is alive and is in charge of The Institute, he's spent his entire life working on androids so he can ultimately re-create his parents

Also I think the Spouse and Child might have left the Vault before you, maybe your cryopod got set to a different wake up time than all the others and you couldn't be woken up without risking your death.

The child is almost a romance option because neither you or your kid recognize each other because lets face it hardly anyone remembers what their baby life was like lol.

Fallout 4 will include 12 companions who can join you on your journey. You can even romance them, regardless of their gender.

In addition, Howard discussed the naming of your character, and proclaimed that they've selected over 1,000 names that include both common real names as well as names that Bethesda believes its player may use, even in jest. By way of example, Howard proclaims that if you want to call your character F---face, that option is available to you, and the game will use that name in dialogue and conversations.

I look forward to traversing the Wasteland as Ms. Fuckface then.

He was your father in Fallout 3.

I wouldn't be surprised if the spouse doesn't make it, since that'd mean having to record every line for them as a companion twice to cover both genders.

However, generating a baby based on what your PCs look like makes me think that they might make an appearance. Maybe they woke up ~20 years before you did and is now an adult.

As far as I know Max von Sydow was barely there, neither was Mike Hogan or Chris Plummer.. I suppose you could say it's a slight improvement over Oblivion's & Fallout's uncanny nature of having all the NPCs eerily conversing with them selves while making creepy eye contact. Only by a small margin though.

That's what they want you to think.

It only exists for the press events, but it will be cut from the game on release.

THE ILLUMINATI IS DEVELOPING THE GAME?! WHAT YEAR IS THIS? WHAT'S THE CAPITAL OF BOTSWANA?

Anyway, seems a bit of a stretch to specifically call out these names were they not to appear in the game though? I noticed how some were less vulgar than others too. It's one thing if he was being facetious but given the way it has been talked about, and that it was shown at their press conference -- I don't think he was. I see it as a joke name, in the same sense that you can pick Nolan North to voice your character in SR4, where he'd deliberately make references to himself, it feels more or less like a way to celebrate/and or satirize the notion of 'enter your name' feature which has always been a target for abuse in games. In retrospect, Todd Howard is known for promising all the Earth & all the heavens only to deliver a measly gust of wind.
