NV was able to combine the seriousness of FO and the wackyness of FO2. That's what FO4 needs to do.

I want Wild Wasteland back!

random thought - with FO4 i'll stick to tradition and play my usual cowboy/mad max hybrid

anyone else already have ideas on their character builds?

I've given it some thought. I'd like to do something different - I roleplayed my Courier as the son of a New Khan who was vengeful against his enemies, but would be merciful to the Great Khans and generally harmless foes (like the thieves who planned to rob the New Vegas casinos with antiquated gear), while my Lone Wanderer was an idealist who would turn the other cheek (at times) and fell deep into Lyons' ideological approach to the Codex.

I'm not sure how much room we will have over our backstory or personality, especially with a voiced protagonist (like making the Courier gay, a womanizer, someone who had been to New Reno, ect.), but I've been thinking about playing as someone who would embrace the freedom of the wasteland rather than lose himself in the loss of the Old World, who would be open to the concept of artificial humans having true sentience (and all that implies), and if he has a military background, being persuaded towards the ideals of the Midwestern Brotherhood - assuming they're closer to their Western counterparts.

Admittedly, my characters gravitate towards high intellect and energy weapons; they're also Latino. Might try out romance, or I'll just go solo if no one really gels with the personality of my main character.

dont worry there are different ammo types, from the E3 presentation pipe rifles use .38, assault rifles - 5.56, the 10mm pistol obviously uses .22 ammo....oh wait....,revolvers (and revolver rifles) use .45, all laser weapons now have a single ammo type however plasma is now separate, and the junk jet fires teddy bears

Teddy Bears...LOL.

By types, I actually mean Hollow Points, Armor Piercing, SWC (Wadcutter), JSP/JFP, Match, Supers, Magnums for your shotguns. Stuff like that. Of course all would have appropriate DAM/DPS stats adjusted, as well as boosts and/or penalties attached, especially for HP and AP ammo. And all of this was in New Vegas.

Of course, most of this means that we would have to be able to hand load ammo and some sort of Damage Threshold mechanism in place....and that we have yet to see for FO4. Reverse chambered bolt-action rifles firing off the wrong shoulder isn't exactly filling me with a lot of hope or confidence that we'll actually have the depth in Guns in FO4 like we had in New Vegas.

It would be really $#!++y, to geld all that out...just so we can play Minecraft.

Homosexuals can marry now, you know...

They could in Fallout 2, too. ;)

Given the choices in NV (and the diversity of fans), I think it's for the best that the choice is in the hands of the players - in terms of who the player wants to romance, or at least which gender their player created character is interested in.

Choices matter, too. I think who is available (and whether or not it's actually fleshed out) could determine whether some players even pursue it. Had Cass been an option, I would have approached it with my Courier.

Cass was one of those characters that I felt like my Courier was romancing even though I suppose it officially wasn't considered a romance. I guess I just assumed it after I smoked the Van Graffs and Alice McLafferty just because she wanted it.

Then came the end slides where she took up with a random NCR trooper on a whiskey binged one nighter...and I came to realize...Hmmm, I might've been wrong about that.

Eh, it was a LOL moment for me. My Couriers were really loners anyway....like they had a choice...well outside of Sarah Weintraub and Joanna! ;)

My ending had Cass be like "That guy just took down two empires, well ****".

I wanted to have lady killer just to flirt with Cass, but that would be an waste of an perk. I RP my courier to be an icorrigible ladies man. So maybe it was smart for Cass not to get too close with my Courier

You can flirt with her with the Lady killer perk, but she sees right through it and tells you so.

People here are seriously overstating how great the 'serious' plot of NV was.

It really was not that good. It gets acclaim because a lot of the details are flushed out well, but when you boil it down to the fundamentals, there's a lot of things wrong.

The main plot of Fallout 3 did more for me than the main plot of NV did.

Meh, Fallout 3's plot was like "Bible, Enclave, water, blah blah blah."

It definitely had it's problems. But it had enough powerful moments to draw me in. I ended up caring quite a bit about James and to a lesser extent Sarah Lyons, Dr. Li, Three Dog and such. There was no actual character I ended up caring about in New Vegas' main plot, aside from maybe House, which pretty much went down the drain once he insisted the Brotherhood be murdered. I finished the final mission of Broken Steel where you blow up the crawler very satisfied.

When it comes right down to it, the main plot of New Vegas just did not have any meaningful conflicts or characters worth caring about.

Try asking her to join you when you already have a companion.

"I'm not interested in a threesome...

...today"

anyway, back to FO4, we already know the more popular theories about Vault 111 - cryostasis, transferring memories in to androids, teaching rodents how to dance the salsa and so on, but what are your more outlandish theories about the Vault 111 experiment?

Hard to say for certain at this point, with so little known.

As for the pervasive idea of the Vault being tied to androids (and, presumably, the main character), being an android could toy around with the general idea of life, and how the main character would respond to an existence of false memories if the intro never truly happened.

Roleplaying a Batty type of character could be interesting, too; someone coming to grips with their artificial humanity, and who could spin out of control. "Nothing the God of Biomechanics wouldn't let you into heaven for".

I still can't wrap my mind with the idea that radiation can kill an robot. Was that the case poor Codsworth would be goo by now.

I'm sure it varies depending on the design of the robot, but Sergeant RL-3 can go into the chamber because he can withstand the radiation. There are also other robots who seem to have survived the nuclear fallout of the Great War.

Lore wise, even wearing power armor should protect the wearer from radiation, as long as the suit isn't compromised.

Then it makes no sense how the protagonist, if an android, is affected by radiation or even killed by it. An robot, no matter how so sophisticated, cannot be killed by it.

To you David.

And you must know, you're a game designer, philosopher, astrophysicist, whatever you're pretending to be now.

I was FAR more invested in the conflicts in the Mojave than I ever was in ANYTHING in the Capital Wasteland.

Considering how there's no discernible difference between a regular human and Harkness (who mentions that he cut himself shaving), I think synthetic humans are intended to be closer to humans than their more mechanical counterparts. They may simply not be designed to withstand radiation.

Or be programed to believe they are not immune to radiation, and calculations are made to fake symptoms, until "death".

First of all, this is also a series where radiation turns people into zombies and heals said zombies. It's not real world radition and it's never pretended to be.

Secondly, the Wikipedia page does say ionizing radiation can cause permenent damage to electrical components.

I like to see quests similiar to what was done for the Wasteland Survival Guide in Fallout 3 for Moira Brown. I liked her comments when you get back to give her the results of each task.

Progressive quests, where each one is geared towards a specific goal, and you can potentially build a rapport with someone? I'd like that, too.

Has everyone read the summary? "Do whatever you want in a massive open world with hundreds of locations, characters, and quests. Join multiple factions vying for power or go it alone, the choices are all yours."

If accurate, it seems that it's up to us whether we chose to align with anyone, or if we decide to support someone. Maybe we can join and support the Midwestern Brotherhood or the Institute? Maybe perform quests to earn their trust? Perhaps we can even forge alliances between different factions? I wonder if the Midwestern BoS could ever find common ground with the Railroad, especially if the MBoS view androids as little more than technology.

You should have hired a prostitute instead mate instead of wasting all your time on dat hoe just to be palmed off at the end and swapped for some random crappy lv 1 NCR c u n t.

Speaking of romance though...Bethesda and romances? Wow this should be amusing more-so when their character development is so severely lacking.
