Gamescom starts this week, new footage incoming! Or, well, new for most of us, I assume it will be the quakecon stuff.

Im pretty excited to finally see it, instead of reading about it.

I'll be interested to see if this Diamond CIty place and Piper the companion are shown.

Heck I'll be glad to learn about any more companions.

InXile might be interested in someday finishing the actual Van Buren game:

Doubtful, since many of the plot elements were integrated into New Vegas.

Radiation doesn't make sense in Fallout. Being a robot and saying you get "damaged" long term exposure to it makes hundreds of times more sense than how radiation currently works.

You mean I won't get turned into a sentient zombie healed by radiation if I get exposed to huge doses of it, or that my pet lizard will not become a nigh-invincible killing machine? Dammit. There goes my vacation plans.

The Science! in Fallout definitely treats radiation as plot-convenient magic rather than the deadly byproduct of nuclear reactions, that's for certain. They could just say that the radiation damages the android's ''skin'' so much as to make it unable to operate. I mean, Institute androids bleed, so they definitely aren't Terminator-type robots.

It is campy in the sense of how you're backtalking through the usage of bad-ass oneliners that feel like they were derived out of an 80's film.

See, I realize that Fallout 3 had its share of quirkyness, the problem is that most of it is something you find in the DLC's, like say the one where you're arbitrarily kidnapped by space aliens. A lot of the quirky side quests feel inconsistent with the main story, and the tone Bethesda had lay out for the game. This, among the many reasons, is why quite a few people didn't recognize Fallout 3 as a Fallout game; Less like it's trying to channel its Mad Max/Wasteland heritage and more like it's being the Last of Us, I Am Legend etc. I do, however, realize that there are darker games than Fallout 3 but going by what Bethesda wanted to accomplish, I think it's safe to say that it wasn't being funny (neither seems to be the case with FO4). One of the larger side quests in Fallout 3 has you decide whether to nuke an entire town, which is treated in the manner you'd expect by that point. Vegas has less of that. In New Vegas you start out by surviving a gun shot to the head, as main villain Benny delivers a bad ass one liner "Game was rigged from the start. Bang". The people you greet aren't grim, they range from being comfortably jovely to casual care-free which only helps compliment the lighter colours of the Mojave Wasteland as opposed to the grim darkness of the Capital.

You can have well-written characters with complexity and layers, while still not taking yourself too seriously/ being happily grounded in the rules you've set for yourself. You already know this (Metal Gear Solid).

Hmmm, personally the reverse happened for me as I laughed a lot in the New Vegas DLC's while I laughed during the base game of Fallout 3. It had a quirkiness that I found unique and interesting and it combined with the grim and darkness which helped with the atmosphere. It's just that we have different perspectives and I respect yours.

I'm with you on the case of Metal Gear though Kojima is the polar opposite of subtle and the over the top campiness flew over my head when played New Vegas.

Some were, yeah, but it could still potentially be made into a prequel to Fallout NV.  Like that war between the Brotherhood and NCR

It is with the heaviest heart that I have to say that not only are all those things you fear true, but there is not even the chance of acquiring superpowers. Even cosmic rays are duds.

I'm with you on the pseudoscience.

Sadly, our best hope for developing super powers rests solely with bronn injected with nano machines and having them rework our body on a biomolecular level.

Yeah, the war could be explored in more detail, since it's only casually addressed in Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

Speaking of the BoS, I wonder if siding with the Midwestern Britherhood could make Boston a beacon for the more traditional groups within the Brotherhood, especially if they veer more towards the Western approach to the Codex and the acquisition of technology.

Given how the NCR has stabilized and grown so far, they might want a place of their own (and they may oppose Lyons' more radical approach to the Brotherhood, despite his successes).

400 + hours of content in FO4, but some of that is due to the new crafting mechanic.

I'm really hoping crafting will be just as extensive as New Vegas.

Deathclaws were actually made by the government before the apocalypse to serve as shock troopers through the use of genetic engineering and the FEV.

And I hope whoever had that brilliant idea died in a blaze of nuclear fire.

Didn't the FEV exposure come later, when the Master tried to amp them up in Fallout 1?

Honestly, that's not the worst thing the government can come up with :-\

Still not bad as the guy who bred Cazadores *shudders*.

At least you can kill that one.

After I learned about how the Cazadores were created, I introduced Dr. Borous to Mr. Sledgehammer.

I'd say centaurs are worse (toss humans and dogs into FEV vats and see what comes out) but that's also the work of the Master

Yes, the Master modified Deathclaws through genetic engineering and FEV.

I spend plenty of time "crafting" in SMT/Persona games so the longevity is hardly surprising to me. If it's anything like Todd Howard describes it, consider me encouraged.

Then again, Mr. Howard has been known to "exaggerate" certain things from time to time.

I can't really see the crafting beeing that much different from Skyrim's blacksmithing, only this might be better balanced and have alot more customization options. WIth 50 base weapons in the game plus 700 modifications what you can do with weapons is pretty insane. As for the length of the game 400 hours doesn't surprise me. I already have a 300 hour save in Skyrim granted that is with the DLC done.

As someone who has had most crafting ruined for him by Gust games i'm unlikely to touch the crafting in FO4. Hell I rarely used in in NV only to transfer ammo and make auto use stims.
